I'm happy with Naeem and Riyad combining for the 10 overs.

ODI is more importantly dry up runs and bowl intelligently during PP. Unless we fix those no matter we score close to 300, we are unable to dominate.

This is our stats at home since October 2008 (excluding Zim matches) -

Mashrafe Mortaza 5 5 47.0 8 166 11 4/44 15.09 3.53 25.6 1 0
Shakib Al Hasan 9 9 84.0 4 310 9 2/20 34.44 3.69 56.0 0 0
Naeem Islam 9 9 58.0 2 282 7 2/20 40.28 4.86 49.7 0 0
Rubel Hossain 5 5 38.3 2 251 6 4/33 41.83 6.51 38.5 1 0
Syed Rasel 6 6 44.3 4 213 5 3/23 42.60 4.78 53.4 0 0
Abdur Razzak 7 7 63.0 0 336 4 3/33 84.00 5.33 94.5 0 0
Nazmul Hossain 1 1 10.0 3 30 3 3/30 10.00 3.00 20.0 0 0
Shafiul Islam 2 2 15.0 1 102 2 1/39 51.00 6.80 45.0 0 0
Mahbubul Alam 1 1 4.0 0 25 1 1/25 25.00 6.25 24.0 0 0
Mahmudullah 8 6 20.0 0 117 1 1/32 117.00 5.85 120.0 0 0
Shahadat Hossain 3 3 15.0 0 82 1 1/29 82.00 5.46 90.0 0 0

It's safe to say Naeem established himself as the second spinner of the team. At this point he looks better than Abdur Razzak.

If there is a capable spinner who can inflict damage, I have no problem, pushing Naeem up to be a batting specialist who's useful with the ball. That ofcourse means that *ahem* somebody from the top will need to be shown the door.

He is more than enough as our 6th Bowler and potentially our 4th bowler.

With the spinner we need to be a little bit patient. They get better over time and experience.

Thats the point Naeem is doing decent with the ball at present his S/R is bellow 50 against G8 with good Econo and hopefully as normally spinners get better with time and experience so i can see good hope for him as a bowler.

we have naeem batting at 8............. we can easily drop two batsmen ....... aftab and ashraful and insert a new batsman and a bowling allrounder like shuvo. and promote some of our low order performers

tamim
imrul
shahriar nafees
shakib
naeem
riyadh
mushfik
shuvo/razzak
shahadat
rubel
shafiul

we have 5 specialist bowler, 3 pacers and 2 spinners. but we all know on a day a bowler may go for runs, so naeem can give some backup for him

When your middle order doesn't click, you don't play eight batsmen hoping your #8 will come to the rescue. You fix your middle order and get rid of the non-performing batsmen. I think we always play a batsman too many - we need to have five bowlers of "specialist" quality with Nayeem and Mahmudullah sharing part time duties for now. One of the specialists (i.e. Shakib) being an all rounder helps as it means we have 7 batsmen in the team and hopefully at least a #8 who is in the side for his bowling but can hit too (e.g. Masri/Razzak) when the need arises.

I voted for Naeem as 'improving' category because I think he wants to be in the Test side and so he's trying to improve his performance at the moment.

Until the World Cup 2011, its OK, but in the future, we need a specialist bowler, with Sakib already in the team as the 5th bowler. On this point, I am confused about the role of both Mahmudullah and Naeem in the bowling department, because Mahmudullah is not bowled his full quota of 10 overs, and sometimes neither is Naeem. In test cricket also, Mahmudullah is not given the ball to bowl a lot besides Sakib, so that's another point for discussion.

On the other hand, Abdur Razzak did not bowl well at all against SL-IND and I'm not sure whether he can perform to his ability in the upcoming tours. If the same-bowling combination is kept for the national team up until the World Cup 2011, then I think we need more variety in our bowling - left arm spin bowling of Sakib & Razzak and off right arm off spin bowling of Mahmudullah and Naeem to make up the 40 (or is that 30? - with 20 overs from our two new ball bowlers) overs is not good against any strong team. Especially with 20 overs of field restrictions (including 10 overs of bowling & batting power play) does not encourage keeping 4 spinners in the team; does not matter how turning or spin-friendly the wicket is.

I am also not sure about the role of Razzak and Shahadat in the team. Their batting needs a lot of work. While we have Mahmudullah and Naeem Islam at # 7 & #8, Razzak and Shahadat does not bat as they're capable of. Both of them bat like a #11 (read hoik like a #11) and yet they're batting at #8 (or #9 & #10 sometimes) and also Rubel/Rasel can't even hold the bat properly. Its true that Rubel is a young enough-player, but at least all of them (Razzak/Rasel/Shahadat/Shafiul/Rubel) should have the patience to go for the quick singles whenever they come to bat.

Its like they are all influenced by Tamim & Sakib and they all try to slog every time they come to bat, no matter what the situation is. I'm not trying to turn them into specialist batsman, when our top order batsman can't even bat properly with some patience, but at least our #9 - #11 should bat like whatever the situation demands.

i think he is OK bowler in ODI, in nZ series he did better than sakib in first 2 matches, In ODI he is effective

but naeem can secure his place in the team as a batsman alone
i think we should have shohrawardi shuvo as a 2nd specialist spinner--so that he can balance between batting position also.in ODI, razzaq can fill up the space also.
to kill england, we have to be strong in spin attack--thats the only way to defeat england. 2 pacer and unlimited spinner we need.

i think shahadat and rubel can be too expensive in ODI
if mash back-- he should pair with shafiul or rasel

naeem and riyad are alright in one-dayers, but they're not test class spinners, besides they can both be used as batting allrounders and moved up the order and dropping one of the batsmen and bringing in another spinner (which would have to be shuvo or alok in one-dayers because of their batting, unless you think a nasir, shabbir, noor or mahmudul is ready). in tests riyad and naeem play as batsmen with an extra spinner being played.

pacers i'd leave shahadat out of one-dayers, make him a longer format bowler if anything (think we have better prospects in the longer format as well). mash should lead in one-dayers with rubel, shafiul as the 2 other main pacers and subashis as back-ups (and maybe emon once he's got some experience and put in some performances). in tests you take the pacers i just mentioned for the one-dayers and add robin. these should be the main pacers focused on, but we don't want to foget about rasel, nazmul, dolar, robiul and ziaur or the u19 pacers but we need to start focusing on the players who have the best weapons and that means the pacers who have the pace and can swing and/or seam the ball and hopefully the accuracy comes in time (obviously they should be working on it and not just expecting it to happen).

To consider as a 5th bowler, you have to be able to bowl 10 overs. Right now, Nayeem is not good enough a bowler to bowl 8-10 overs consistently. With him and Riyad may be able to fill up the quota of 10 overs.

Both of them need to do lot of improvement in their bowling. If they cannot do so, we need to find other options for 5th bowler. Not necessarily a specialist bowler, may be another bowling/batting all-rounder.

If we go in WC 11 with Riyad+Nayeem as a 5th bowler, that will be the weakest link in the team and can the deciding factor in crucial matches.

There is at least one vacant position in the team right now if not two. As Raqib/Aftab/Ashraful all out of form. We can replace one with Shohrawardi Shuvo. It gives us a specialist bowling option, also he can hold his bat. At #8, bowling all-rounder is a better choice than a batting all-rounder, what we are doing at them moment. It will balance up the team both bowling and batting wise.

Second option may be Faisal Hossain. As he is scoring runs, he can be in a plan for WC as well. He bowls a bit also. Riyad+Nayeem+Faisal can fill-up the 5th bowling quota. Captain will have much more option then and 3/4 overs from 3 of them should not be a problem.

i think in ODI--naeem and mahmudullah combined can be played as 5th bowler, nothing wrong with that. naeem can be economic and can take wkt. mahmudullah on the otherside little expensive but has wkt taking capability.

but shuvo is the ultimate solution or other spin all rounder, i mean bowling allrounder--sabbir rahman, mahmudul, nasir hossain

naeem and mahmudullah are now batting allrounder.

Yeah I like the idea of Shuvo taking up one of the spots. He could come in purely as a bowler, who can be handy with the bat.

Actually batting collapse is a vital issue in our team.Lot of time we had to depend on no 8 batsman to build up the innings. If we had good batsman from no 1 to 7 in that case we could have taken Su.Shuvo as 5th bowler come no 8 batsman that could have been very handy.3 pacers+2SLA+Naeem it would have been a dream bowling line up.
