who will score the next ODI double ton???
so many have come so close over the years.
richards 189 and 181, even if against minnows, no one else has hit 200 against a minnow ever.
dhoni would have had it for sure 183*
gibbs, hayden, ponting, and sachin a cuople of times have all come close.
there were days when 350 totals were rare, and no one dreamed of touching 400. nowadays 400 gets scored in ODIs.
its a matter of time, perhaps 2 months, maybe 10 years, but someone will score 200 again and possibly even break the master blaster's record. it may even be the master blaster himself first. but at some point someone else will do it.
question is who?

The 3 players playing currently who I can see scoring 200, are Sehwag. Tamim, and Dhoni (if he comes 1 down)

It has to be an opening batsman, so no chance for Dhoni, Ponting, or Akmal Jr. Gambhir is not aggressive enough to play any such innings.

These days, the difference between Pakistan openers and middle-order is about two overs.

I really think it's going to be between Tamim, Dilshan and Sehwag.

I feel that it will be either Dilshan or Sehwag. Tamim does not have the mental maturity as yet to stay at the wicket for 50 overs. He gets a mad rush of grey matter to throw his wicket away.

You don't think it'll be Tamim in England this year? Blasphemy!

I disagree. It won't take another 40 years for the next 200. Once it has been achieved by Tendu it gives hope to other batsmen that it is indeed possible and when batsmen cross 150 they will back themselves to get it.
I think Tamim will cross 200 once in his career but is he the next? I'm not so sure. Dilshan and Chris Gayle seem like safer bets at this point.
And you forgot one more option - Tendulkar again.

A cartoon on Sachin's double ton. I'm posting it here as it made me chuckle (and will induce the same on anyone who knows who Zaid Hamid is), but due to the somewhat sensitive nature of the joke, I hope we dont get any racist comments here !
