Default Bat tampering

We all are familiar with the words "ball tampering". But any thoughts of bat tampering?

Yes, it was done by Denis Lilee who turned up with an aluminium bat in a test match umpire spoted.

He actually bowled with an apple once, after the lunch he came out with a red apple, batsman was all set to face until Lilee approached the stumps and bowled with an apple which smashed into pieces in the middle of the pitch. He was a funny bloke at times.

Aluminium bats are used for baseball matches, it increases the power of the hit and as aresult the speed of the ball drifting away. The implications of using an aluminium bat with acricket ball is not good to say the least.

I saw Abdul Kadir do that once, bowled an apple and we were puzzled to see the ball explode at contact. It was a good humor sport.

Raj bhai I saw that too. It was some kind of friendly match in Dhaka I think. I was shocked to see the ball smash into pieces. Then Qadir was laughing and the commentators said it was apple

I can't remember exactly when, but I am pretty sure Indian batsmen were accused of using wider bat. And the match referee actually asked them to use different bat. Sourav was among the offender.

Default wide bat and other measurements

++++
There were no legal limits on the size of the bat until Shock White appeared in a match with a weapon the width of the wicket, unsporting behaviour that led two days later to his opponents, the Hambledon Club, writing the following minute: "In view of the performance of one White of Ryegate on September 23rd that ffour (sic) and quarter inches shall be the breadth forthwith. - this 25th day of September 1771". It is signed by its scribe Richard Nyren and by T. Brett and J. Small and was speedily accepted elsewhere, occuring already in the "Code of 1774".
