Default ICC President praises Bangladesh [Also met Bangladesh President]

International Cricket Council (ICC) President David Morgan was welcomed by the President of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina at her office in the capital Dhaka and he took the opportunity to praise the local organisers of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 for their ongoing hard work.

Morgan was accompanied by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) President Mostafa Kamal and the BCB Chief Executive Nizam Uddin Choudhury as well as Marylebone Cricket Club President John Barclay and David Collier, the Chief Executive of the England and Wales Cricket Board.

During the meeting, Morgan praised the Bangladesh Government and the BCB for their hard work ahead of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 which opens in Dhaka on 19 February 2011 with a match between the home side and India. “We are grateful for your Government’s commitment to the ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 and to you and your family for their life-long commitment to our great sport,” Morgan, who also attended the Test match between Bangladesh and England, told the Prime Minister.

Bangladesh recently has shifted the country's popular cricket Twenty20 leagueChittagong to Sharjah as all the major cricket grounds of the country would be busy for the domestic cricket as well as remain under renovation ahead of the 2011 ICC World Cup at home. “We know that a lot of time and effort is going into ensuring that Bangladesh stages a memorable tournament, along with co-hosts India and Sri Lanka. The ICC Cricket World Cup is our flagship event, the third biggest sporting event in the world and the biggest ever to be staged in Bangladesh,” Morgan said.

“We recognise that it presents Bangladesh and its people with the chance to showcase their country on the global stage and we fully expect it to be a great occasion.”

Actually, "You are welcome to Bangladesh" has a slightly [ no doubt unintended ] sinister meaning. Kind of the Austrian invitation to the Germans in 1938.
