Auction is permissible in Islam but some conditions applies. Such as ---

1. All interested parties have to be invited and allowed to participate.
2. No one should artificially inflate the price.
3. A deposit to enter the auction is permitted. If that party doesn't buy the good, they are entitled to get the return. If they buy something, that deposit should be counted as part of the purchase price.

I'm getting glasses! I've picked out 2, but my mom called the other day and she wants to me to buy them from Bangladesh so I don't have to spend $200 (also this is her way to get me to talk to allllllll my relatives in Bangladesh). At first I didn't bother, but now that I think about it, it's a good idea. Because I can't decide which one to buy out of the two I picked out. If I get them from Bangladesh, I could buy both of them for <$200!

But question is, do they have Raybens over there? Can someone help me out over here? I really need to buy glasses asap.

Dilscoop I highly suggest against getting glasses from BD. In a nameless store in Banani I bought a "Gusi" (courtesy of Jinjira) of a pair of sunglass with power but turned out they power was mismatched and I was constantly getting headache.

It's worth to invest some for a pair of nice glasses and it's not worth saving the 200 or 400 bucks for a cheap imitation that may not be of good quality lens.

^ I think just like anywhere else in the world it really depends where you go. I've been wearing glasses for over 10 years now and I've found the spectacles that I've bought in a certain store in New Market (the name eludes me at the moment, will post when I remember) to be as good as the spectacles I've bought in New York, London, Berlin and Casablanca. They have a wide range of frames and are very durable. I knew of that place because my grandparents and parents have been going to that store for the past couple of decades - and I'm sure your relatives in Bangladesh know a similarly reliable place.

But if you're fixed on getting Raybans then I'm not sure. You could consider getting the Rayban frames in the US and getting the appropriate lenses in Dhaka if the two are sold separately?
