Dividing Dhaka
They wanted four administrative zones. Hasina confirmed for 2. Dhaka will be divided into North Dhaka and South Dhaka. Slowly we will become alien to each other. We will have separate cricket teams, flags, eating habits. Probably different accents soon. Soon we will create the Dhaka wall in between, will require passports to enter either parts of the city for the citizens of the other side.
This will bring more K-oz in already existing disorders.
Interesting to see exactly where the cessation happens. The bad boy Old Dhaka being the Southern most will be the part of South Dhaka. Gulshan, Banani, Airport, Mirpur all makes sense to be in the North. Where the boundary will be drawn - after Dhanmondi I guess, probably Farmgate, Nayatola, Chowdhury Para and Khilgaon will fall into on or near No Man's Land.
We will throw our trashes at night 'chupichupi' to the North. North boys will try to eave tease south girls. This will be interesting.

Based on childhood I will definitely fall into South. Even I think Shantibag will also edge past North to be in South. Probably my new apartment will be in North.
BTW, my last line of the opening post was a joke. Do not take it literally young ones.

This is not going to solve anything. To relieve pressure on Dhaka, govt. needs to move some of its branches out of Dhaka. For a change, move the Secretariat office out of Dhaka to, I don't know, may be to some little small town!
Everything in Bangladesh is in Dhaka. You can't sustain a country out of one single city!

Agreed! Not sure how this solves anything really.... Decentralization is a must!

South Korea, Thailand, Mexico and Argentina would all beg to differ.....
However our case is worse because we dont really have any "buffer" area to shift the load from Dhaka to

Whatever happened to everyone's Purbachal applications? How many bc'ers struck lucky? How many got their money back?
Hope this zoning has some benefit.

Hasina and her holigans are too afraid that if they ran the mayor election today, they might lose it to their nemesis.
So, divide the city up. Alteast that way, they could retain some part of the city to themselves and let the Chatro League ran havoc in their corner.
This is nothing but some political damage control.

I must say this about you dear Himu/Rabz bhai! I know you are a very caring supporter of a lot of the Awami concepts, beliefs, ideologies and you show great respect for them, you seem like a very dedicated Awami League supporter to me. But it is amazing to see you are never shy away from critisizing any leader of AL or even Sheikh Hasina when you feel it's appropriate and when it is due. That is an amazingly refreshing and rare example of great character, rare at least in my family and my surroundings in Bangladesh. You show honest and sincere feelings about anything that is very impotant to you, your city, your people and your country, and you are not shy or afraid about it. I salute you Rabz, Some day you will be a great leader, your voice speaks with conscience, which I find very missing around my own home, land. And when you take leadership of our country, people, I see a far more enlightened, self-less, harmonious society, Inshallah! Allah bless you Himu!

Dearest bhais, Asif bhai didn't mean it like that. He cares, actually deeply cares, he has family there. Asif bhai is just very frustrated just like all of us here, as we go through our misery everyday witnessing this never-ending hopelessness in our leadership. No matter who was in power, this cycle of pain continues for the Bangalies. Asif bhai's heart gently bleeds.
