Harsha Bhoge labelled our effort to beat india as 'banana skin'.
Also before the match I was watching an indian cricket show where navjat singh sidhu said 'the problem occurs when a goose starts to think itself as a swan', Bangladesh being the goose. How can a tv personality say things like that! Is it wrong to try beating your opponents? Should we go into a match hoping we will lose to india?

When Bangladesh team toured australia people used to come pad on my sholdier and say, 'well done, you have come a long way' although we didnt play well against australia. But we have supported india for so long when we didnt have an established team. Our fans used to cheer their lungs out for india and pak. is that how you repay your well wishers?
Thats a sheer falsification.. BD never supported Indian Cricket Team whole heartedly .. majority of them supported pakistan... when India and Pakistan played each other in BD...for whatever reasons.. beyond sports....
Though my roots are in BD and I am an Indian.. when I saw BD supporters whole heartedly supporting Pakistan against India... I felt sad...but nevermind...
as far as comments by Sidhu and Bhogle is concerned... I can pretty much say .. they get paid for whatever they say...take it with a pinch of salt.....

and please don't give me example of Aussies...even today sydney morning herald... has an article where they call out Bangladesh a very impoverished country where people are getting for the first time a chance to witness.. a world class event.. they never leave a chance to dig at brown skins

Well Prithviraj, there are people who supports Pakistan in Bangladesh, but there are also people who supports India. Can't generalize a whole nation being either this or that. Then, even in India there are places where you will see the Pakistani flag during an India Pakistan match.

firstlane, I agree with you, Sidhu shouldn't have mocked at BD like this, that's not great. But about people's comment, don't feel about that. There are comments of BD supporters elsewhere which may give rise to a similar feeling to Indian supporters.

Even in this forum, there are people making anti India comments. There is someone who has put in his signature "100% joy if India loses against any country". There are Indian supporters who may generalize the whole BD supporters with the above signature. They shouldn't, because not the whole of BD think like this. Isn't it?

Yep cricinfo comments from some Indian posters are very bad but they are very small percentage since ours is a big country even small percentage is a lot.I apologize to Bangladesh fans on behalf of my countrymen but I can certainly say that they don't mean harm(just bravado), shooting from mouth and not speaking from heart.

Well I will stop here and be a generous host. I know whats truth and whats not. But seriously what does that say about themselves? Out commentators get paid by tv channels as well but i assure you they would never speak like that even about a team ranked way below us in any sport coz we fans don't appreciate that.

I think this is a wrong impression... during the Wasim Akram era yes we did have a lot of Pakistan Fans... but even among my friends we were deeply divided, it was a battle between Tendulkar and Wasim... it was never the case that the entire fan base here supported pakistan...at least not to my knowledge.

Frankly there is no way everyone can whole heartedly support Pakistan Cricket team considering what their army did to our people.... Some people say they supported the pak team for their cricketing skills...thats fair enough... but i always felt it was more like 50-50... In the recent past i would say its 70-30 in favor of India...

Sidhu always speaks his mind...he is not the polished kind of personality u would expect in a TV programme...but thats what makes it fun...having a live wire who is unpredictable at times... besides everyone is entitled to their opinion and we should not let that affect us this much... We know whether we are a goose or a swan... i am sure we will prove it during the group stages

-The SBNS is the best stduim in the subcontinent...I just hope their team was good as the stadium -Gokul

-Bangladesh are going to be slaughter in this World Cup - Gokul

-Lets see when they [Bangladesh] get knock out [of Quaters] I wonder if there will be even a fraction of this crowd whenthe two Qfs are played where.

These so called Indian "Journalist" are a bunch of pricks. No integrity, to humility. If these attitude comes from "Journalist", I urge all Indians to buy property insurance. Because when India loss their WILL be a riot.

sidhu speaks like a moron, no two ways about it. would it be any consolation that he pi$$ed off the Indian players so much during 2003 WC with his comments that after winning every match they were crushing beer cans under their feet saying "this is sidhu". fact is, he pi$$es off anyone he speaks about, there is NOTHING Indian V BD about it.

as for bhogle's article, I think you are doing a big disservice to him. banana skin simply means that India is expected to win a BD match and a loss is an outside chance.

Quote:
India's attitude to the first game will be just as revealing. In the minds of many in the media this could be a banana-skin game: a tricky opener against a side that capsized them in 2007.
what exactly is wrong with this statement ? where do you see any 'disrespect' to BD, other than in your imagination ?

in the same article he says about Bangladesh
Quote:
I will be very interested in seeing how Bangladesh respond to that situation. They could either use it as an expression of confidence, as the biggest opportunity in their cricket, and swagger out or they could be crushed by it, only taking tentative steps. If they fear defeat they will find it galloping towards them. It will test their attitude, and most important, it will test their leadership, because not qualifying for the quarter-final will be seen as a major blow.
does any of these sound like he is questioning BD's ability to compete with the top nations in cricket ?
why do people like you insist on twisting everything an Indian says to make it appear sinister ? for every anti-BD comment in cricinfo I can show you 2 that are very supportive. same goes for BD supporters about India as well.
why do you consider only one type while ignoring the other ? get rid of the blind hate man, it's not good for your health.

you will find references to it in the CI articles published in the run-up to the WC, without naming sidhu of course. at the time i.e during 2003, it was all over the papers.

dude ..same thing happens when India looses a match in any part of the world.. people in Pakpassion and Bangla Cricket starts digging at us.. calling us .. corrupt, flat pitch bully......etc. etc......

to feel bad about it is as immature as the comments themselves... just live through it and wait for your turn.....

Based my limited experience in sports rivalries among other countries in other sports.. this is very common place and should not even matter....

have you seen what kind of comments are posted by americans or whites in larger..whenever there is a disaster in south asia... they treat all of us (India, Pakistan and Bangladesh) same... and calls us third world trash etc. etc.. ..should I feel bad about it..? yes-off-course...shd i lose my sleep .. no way

no you are wrong. if you r playing some one else most of the bc people don't even care. there might be a thread were things might be discussed but not in the espn/cricinfo news papers.

i am talking about the articles that you people come up with. that guy in espn how dare he say some thing like this about a country in the media. he can say that stuff in blogs or at his home but when u do that in a official media then yes people know there is more to it.

don't come here and paint us with your color please. I don't know what happens in pak passion as I don't go there and i don't care.

I stand by my comments.. and I will come here and express my opinions.. I am not trying to paint you.. why should I..?

whom are you talking about in ESPN? Harsha.. Bhogle.? I thought he supported BD many times before... not sure how an article all of a sudden makes you so sensitive..? Most of the Indian commentators supports BD cricket... includin Ravi, Sunny and Sanjay....

No one takes Sidhu seriously ...he is funny guy...have you heard of something called "Sidhuism" .. !! try and google.. it..
you are misplacing your anger.. few days back Times of India had an article calling the opening ceremony something like a half success...... have you read the comments made by most of the Indians against the article..........
99% comments supported Bangladesh and made joke of the reporters from Times of India....

it is just a deeply rooted mistrust and animosity that drives most of this anger against India ...majority of young Indian generation are very well aware of BD and its growing status in the world of cricket.. and whole heartedly support you guys.....
