Sounds great when that morality pechal is directed towards a 15 years old girl! Blame her father for having such emotions. And that morality'r pechal does not prove anything about her death.

Not well versed in this topic, but isn't it the case in every border where if you cross illegally they'll shot you?

I am sure they don't do that in US-Canada or Germany-France borders but in Asian countries I thought it was the case.

This is brutal and not humane...there is better and more humane way to deal with these situations of violators and illigal border crossers....I am very very dissapointed at the BSF actions.

But I must also echoe what my Alien bhai said above ...it is an old established simple law and theory if you cross another country's border without proper paper and if you are caught sneaking in, you will be treated as a violator of legit International law and the country who is trying to protect their border from unwanted illigal migrators/transportars has the right to shoot/give shot on the buttocks or whatever!

+ Also you want to buy cattle, why don't you walk the other direction and buy your cattle from some Modhu Molla from your country's side. Are there any shortage of skinny cattle in BD side? Ohh but we are poor, and it is much cheaper to buy them form India's Modhu Molla....well then you get what you deserve...sneaking into India in the dark, 20 young bloods (Bolods) to buy cows and cattle!! If I was a BSF foot soldier, I myself probably would have fired without any command, just because I see 20 young guys sneaking through the border in the dark, simple! First thing that would come to my mind, criminal activity!

These people deserved to be treated like this. They are lucky they didn't get shot by the BSF.

Why that Kolkata media call it 'Cow Smuggler'? Why not 'Cow Traders'?? Is it illegal to trade cows between border?? It never can be, since millions of cows are being traded from India to Bangladesh every year, and ever since we can remember! Is it something that both govt. has put some restriction on? What BSF did and doing is EXTORTION in the first place and extreme inhuman brutality which never fall in any voodooism, yet the moron media and BSF itself put the label of 'Cow Smuggler'!?!? And look how moron BD media too, they are just copy-pasting the news, not even bother to ask hard question to both side.

Not ignoring the continual BSF brutality, those guys WERE cow smugglers. It is illegal to export beef or cattle from India. So we have been enjoying contraband food since time immemorial - especially during korbani Eid. They mostly do not eat beef and we mostly do - this has resulted in a very lucrative but illegal smuggling operation from India to Bangladesh.

We can thank the illegal trade next time you enjoy a mangsho bhuna in Dhaka.

They killed Mahatma long time ago...but still selling his name.
That's why their politicians are not able, naturally, to keep their promises, so do their BSFs.

My aunt's village home is less than a km from the Indian border. I have observed so many bad things in the border area specially regarding BDRs and BSFs. Most of the time, when BSFs don't get their expected money, then simply kill. Then make a story and have others to blame.

Agree somehow..but the bottom line is those smugglers are very well known to BSFs. and when these smugglers enter India with money to buy cows, BSFs know very well why they are entering India. At that entry point, BSFs could have stopped them and sent them back to BD. But they don't do it because they want money.

Again, they kill when they don't get their expected money and then make a story.

If that the case is, politicians in both side should sit down and work for a legal deal on this issue. People in both side cant just go on for ever treated as cow smugglers and become a target of extortion from both side. While Bangladesh and India having talks on exportable items and taxes, why not talk on this historic old but damaging issue?

Interestingly NDTV did a report on this(short), but it was scathing, absolutely no attempt to defend the BSF personnel, and we all know how the Indians and Pakistanis love their security forces.

BD NEWS Exclusive:

I blame our Border Guard too. They should be equally blamed for taking bribe from these cow smugglers and allowing them to trespass on Indian boarder.

BSF abducts 7 workers at Sylhet border

Star Online Report
Indian border guards abducted seven workers of a stone quarry from Sreepur border in Jaintapur upazila of Sylhet Sunday evening.

Officials of Border Guard Bangladesh identified six of the victims as Shahed Ahmed, 22, Abdus Samad, 20, Selim Ahmed, 20, Nurul Islam, 20, Morshed Alam, 25, and Abdul Karim, 18.

UNB named the other abductee as Humayun, 23.

All of the abductees are from Asampara village near the point of their abduction.

According to locals and BGB sources, some members of Border Security Force (BSF) from India’s Naljuri camp intruded into Bangladesh territory and abducted the seven stone workers while they were working at a stone quarry around 5:00pm Sunday.

Naljuri BSF men handed over the seven workers to Dauki Police Station in India the following day, Sreepur BGB Camp Commander Havilder Abu Bakr told The Daily Star citing officials of Naljuri BSF camp Tuesday noon.

“The BSF said they will inform us about their decision after discussing the matter with the Dauki Police Station,” the commander added.

Though the BGB officials were aware of the abduction immediately after it happened, they did not disclose the information to the media until newsmen contacted them Tuesday, our correspondent reported.

Prosecute BSF for torture, HRW tells India

Says recent abuse cases reinforce need to enact Prevention of Torture Bill

The Indian government should prosecute members of the security forces for recent high-profile cases of torture to send a message that such practices will no longer be tolerated, Human Rights Watch said Tuesday.
Saying that the Border Security Force (BSF) has long been implicated in torture and extrajudicial killings near the border with Bangladesh, the New York-based rights watchdog expressed deep concern over BSF men’s torture of a Bangladeshi citizen in Murshidabad district on December 9 last year, which was captured in a video and posted on YouTube.
“These horrific images of torture on video show what rights groups have long documented: that India’s Border Security Force is out of control,” said Meenakshi Ganguly, South Asia director of the HRW.
“The Indian government is well aware of killings and torture at the border, but has never prosecuted the troops responsible. This video provides a clear test case of whether the security forces are above the law in India.”
The video, reportedly filmed by a BSF soldier, shows members of the BSF’s 105th Battalion stripping Bangladeshi cattle smuggler Habibur Rahman, tying him up and beating him, while laughing and engaging in verbal abuse.
The HRW said in Tuesday’s news release that the BSF men illegally detained and tortured him and then left him to make his way back home instead of handing him over to the police as required by Indian law.
After MASUM released the video to local news channels, the BSF suspended eight soldiers – Sandip Kumar, Dhananjay Roy, Sunil Kumar Yadav, Suresh Chandra, Anand Kumar, Victor, Amarjyoti, and VirendraTiwari – and ordered an inquiry, said the HRW news release.
“However, despite clear evidence of abuse, to date no criminal charges have been filed against any soldiers,” it reads.
In December 2010, Human Rights Watch, together with Banglar Manabadhikar Suraksha Mancha (MASUM), a Kolkata-based nongovernmental organisation that posted the video, and Dhaka-based Odhikar, published “‘Trigger Happy’: Excessive Use of Force by Indian Troops at the Bangladesh Border.”
The report documented numerous cases of indiscriminate use of force, arbitrary detention, torture, and killings by the BSF, and highlighted the failure of the Indian government to conduct adequate investigations or prosecute troops responsible for abuses. It showed that the BSF routinely abuses both Bangladeshi and Indian nationals residing in the border area. After the report’s release, the Indian government ordered an end to the use of lethal force cease except in cases of self-defence. While the number of killings decreased, allegations of killings and torture have continued, said the HRW.
“Whenever offenses attributed to the BSF occur, its leadership insists that there will be an internal inquiry and action taken,” said Ganguly.
“But secret proceedings and suspensions or transfers won’t end the abuses. Torture is a serious crime that should be prosecuted in the courts.”
The failure of the Indian government to prosecute authorities responsible for torture extends to all of the security forces, said the HRW.
In another recent disturbing incident, Soni Sori, a schoolteacher in Chhattisgarh state, alleged that she was tortured and sexually assaulted by Chhattisgarh state police while in custody in October 2011. After her arrest as a suspected Maoist supporter, a criminal court in Chhattisgarh state handed her over to police custody for interrogation despite her pleas that she feared for her safety and life. Sori alleged that Ankit Garg, then-superintendent of police for Dantewada district, ordered the torture and sexual assault, according to the news release.
The Indian Supreme Court ordered Sori’s transfer to the Kolkata medical college hospital for an independent medical examination. In November 2011, the examination report corroborated Sori’s allegations of physical abuse, it added.
To date, the Indian authorities have not initiated any inquiry or criminal action against the police officers implicated, the HRW said, adding that instead of investigating the case, the Indian president presented Ankit Garg with a police medal for gallantry on Republic Day, January 26, 2012. The medal drew widespread condemnation.
The Indian government announced, in March 2011, a rape compensation package for all sexual assault victims, but even basic follow-up reproductive and sexual health services have yet to be made available to survivors like Soni Sori. One of her lawyers told Human Rights Watch that Sori, who is detained in Raipur central jail in Chhattisgarh, has not received any follow-up reproductive and sexual health care.
“Soni Sori’s case epitomises the callousness with which victims of torture are treated in India,” Meenakshi Ganguly said.
“The Indian government shamefully presents a trophy to someone implicated in torture, while doctors cannot even treat a torture survivor without police obstruction.”
The HRW called upon the Indian government to ratify the Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment and to enact the Prevention of Torture bill, which is currently awaiting cabinet approval and before it is voted on by the Rajya Sabha, the upper house of parliament.
The law should override all provisions of Indian law that allow government officials immunity from prosecution for human rights violations. It should also ensure that adequate time is given for victims to be able to file complaints, and that all forms of inhuman and degrading treatment are brought under the purview of the law, it demanded.
“The BSF, the police, and other members of the security forces operate with impunity throughout India,” said Ganguly. “When will the government in Delhi wake up and act to end torture and other human rights abuses?”

Who cares what HRW says? Our own honorable minister Ashraf clearly has mentioned that this BAL govt does not bother what happens in indo-bangladesh border. For him, this is a normal act, and they would let it continue. The only thing bothers him if he can stay in power for rest of his life. Who cares how many Bangladeshi die in border by BSF.

I wish if people of Bangladesh take this so called minister Ashraf to the border, make him naked, torture him with stick and rifle, video tape it and release it in youtube.
