Default Strategy against NZ

I would rest Mash and bring Nasir in Imrul's place. I would also try Taijul in place of Sunny to see how he does. They key in this match will be playing out the Kiwi opening bowlers' opening overs. If we can avoid losing wickets until the 30th over, we should be able to score 250+. (They have allowed only one 200+ score this tournament.) If we can get Mc and Kane cheaply, I think it can be possible to induce a middle-order collapse.

My team against NZ:
  1. Tamim
  2. Soumya
  3. Mahmudullah
  4. Mushfiq
  5. Shakib
  6. Nasir
  7. Sabbir
  8. Taijul
  9. Shafiul
  10. Rubel
  11. Taskin

Mash will return for the QF. One of Taijul/Sunny will return as well.

This is one of the few no-pressure WC matches ever played. Boys, play freely. You earned it and now enjoy!

Not too many changes. Just rest Mash or not finish his quota. Imrul needs to stay there. Play next two games. That is why he was flown over there.

This is not a dead rubber game for us. May be for NZ though. We win we are facing South Africa. On these drop in pitches I would rather face Steyn/morkel (predictable) than host of trickery of Dhoni.

I Agree TE...

Absolutely Go with the Same Team, or Even Take Shafiul for Sunny. We still have good spin options with Shakib, Mullah, Sabbir etc to give good about 20+ overs...so let the pacers have a go with who ever is doing good finishing the quota and if gets badly hit then in short spells...never know who amongst the pacers will shine when, it's early days for them to have such primary role.

Keep Imrul and Tamim and go by the same batting order...

I would go with the same team, no changes whatsoever.

NZ grounds tend to be smaller in general. A mishit pace will probably take you over the rope when it's a pacer bowling. Not the same when a spinner bowls.

It would be great if we can beat Newzealand, but even if we loose I hope the overall performance is good and it's a relatively close match. We don't want to get thrashed and loose all confidence before the QF. Bangladesh team is driven by passion and flow, in 2014 few close losses against Srilanka, Pakistan resulted in long cycle of defeats.

As for the team, Mashrafe should be rested and Nasir brought in for Imrul. Soumya can open the batting with Tamim... Nasir's bowling and fielding will be added benefit in QF and he needs to get a knock in the middle.

I'd rest Mash for sure and bring in Shafiul. That will keep his old body fresh and mind hungry to go all out in the qtr-final. Give Imrul another chance even though he shouldn't have been in the team at the first place. Since this game isn't make it or break it, I'd try him out and see if he shines. I'd drop Sunny for Nasir. We have Riyadh, Sabbir and Shakib already; Nasir will give us the extra all rounder option with his mixed-bag slow blowing and electrifying fielding.

Need to bat deep. Top order will likely get dismantled by Southee and Boult. Nasir in for Kayes. Shafiul in for Mash.

My playing XI against NewZealand in Hamilton

1) Tamim Iqbal
2) Imrul Kayes
3) Soumya Sarker [should be bowling in this match]
4) Mahmudullah Riyad
5) Mushfiqur Rahim
6) Sakib Al Hasan
7) Sabbir Rumman
8) Nasir Hussain
9) Safiul Islam
10) Rubel Hussain
11) Taskin Ahmed

As we have already qualified for QF, hence I would like to see Mashrafee rested for this match so that we can have a fresh Mashrafee in QF against India. Shafiul will get valuable match practice in pace friendly Hamilton pitch where we should not select any specialist spinner to play in seam-bowling friendly condition. Soumya's dibly-doblies may come handy in this match. Soumya, Mahmudullah and Nasir will be required to bowl 10 overs all together. I have selected 8 batsmen for this match in order to post a competitive total in the region of 290 to 310 in small NZ ground.

We should try Nasir and Taijul for this match. We have to show some faith on our substitute players.

I'm kinda split about resting Mash. On one hand, he desperately needs it for his physical state, it will also ensure that he doesn't get another citation for slow over rate, getting which would mean he misses the all important game against his favorite opponent India.

On the other hand, the team is not the same without him, he is like the Pope of the team, without him, they have no sense of direction. I don't see how we can win without that against NZ.

So, I don't know.

I'd actually play Imrul. He needs practice to be effective against India. He needs to play.

However, I'd bring in Taijul instead of Sunny to see how he fairs. That's the only change I'll make.

Besides that, the focus should be on playing Southee and containing McCullum. That's where the focus should be instead of team selection.

The target against NZ is twofold:

1) Find out a strategy for QF match
2) Spot check the power of the reserves.

Winning is always better...

I will try mahmudullah to open the batting. We will have right-left combination, which is imp. Will replace sunny for taijul. nasir will replace imrul.

My team

1) Tamim
2) Mullah
3) soumya
4) shakib
5) Mushfiq
6) Sabbir
7) Nasir
8) Taijul
9) Taskin
10) Rubel
11) Shafiul.

If he is physically fit, he should play. Can't lose the rhythm of the team. It makes a lots of difference playing in presence & absense of the captain....well you can't help if he's not fit to play.

Strategy is pretty simple....when you bat, score some runs because you will need plenty of them... and when you bowl, get some quick wicket, otherwise you are screwed.

Though it seems very improbable for BD to defeat NZ but nothing's impossible. BD can take heart from the past performances against NZ. IF you have defeated them once, you can defeat them again.

But I fear that NZ will be baying for blood when they meet BD ( what with the humiliation of whitewash and all).

If they actually try to be too aggressive to return us the favor for the humiliating white wash, they will actually play to our advantage...they will lose the composure of current success and we might be in for a better chance to win..but if they just don't think of those white wash and just play cool, It will be very difficult or even impossible to beat them on their soil and in current form...

So I'm going to keep reminding them to take a befitting revenge for that white wash

Maintain the same level of bowling and on-field captaincy from England game. Fielding needs to be at least of the same level.

We're still batting at 80% capacity due to top order (1-3) collapses. Top order needs to deliver this time. Batting has only been OK so far, not good. And it's been OK because our middle order has been bailing us out. Mushy consistently delivers these days (he's effectively a WC batsman now) and is joined by someone else like Riyad or Shakib to take us to a fighting total, but we need to do better.

See out the first 3-5 overs. Let the ball lose its shine, and use that time to get set. 3 RR is fine till then. That's exactly what they needed to do vs England, and that's what they need to do vs NZ. Against England, the ball didn't swing longer than that. It was a good batting pitch afterwards. (Of course, this time, they'll be facing the world's best attack.)

Selection needs to improve. Kayes at top order needs to be replaced with Nasir at lower-middle order. An extra opener, esp of Imrul's caliber, does us no good. We just lose an extra wicket (we essentially play with one batsman short) and create more pressure for the middle order right at the start. That's the main change that needs to happen, and Taijul should replace Arafat.

Getting McCullum and Williamson out early is key obviously. Our coaches have plans for them. I wonder if we'll open with spin. That might be a good idea. Their batting isn't that impressive once those two are gone.

If we can do the above, we can win. But that's a lotta if's. If we play to our potential or close to it, it'll be a competitive game though. They have the best bowling attack, but a score of 300 isn't necessary to beat them.

I think Sunny should be replaced by Taijul while Nasir goes in place of the skipper.

Al Amin might have been a direct replacement for Mashrafee though.

Bowl well. Bat well. Field well.

O and Get Kalam and Williamson early and negotiate first 10.
