Default Sachin regrets Tamim’s IPL snub

Sachin regrets Tamim’s IPL snub

Star Indian batsman Sachin Tendulkar regretted that his Indian Premier League outfit Mumbai Indians failed to buy Tamim Iqbal during last month's auction.

Tendulkar had instructed Mumbai Indians officials to call the shot for Tamim, but when he was put on auction they remained silent.

Tamim came to know about it when he met Tendulkar at his hotel suit before the Indian team left Dhaka on Sunday.

'He told me he was very surprised at their decision,' Tamim told New Age.

'He was out of India at that time and so could not dictate the terms.'

'Tendulkar promised to see the rules if they could still sign me,' said Tamim.

Lutfur Rahman Badal, the cricket chairman of Tamim's club Mohammedan Sporting Club, was with him during the meeting.

Badal said Tendulkar spoke very highly of Tamim and said he will help him get an IPL franchise in future if not now.

'Mumbai Indians have only $1,25,000 left from their budget in this season. They have to hire some uncapped Indian players with this money. So he was not sure if they still can sign Tamim,' said Badal.

Badal said he offered Tendulkar to play for Mohammedan in the next season and he promised to consider it.

Firstly, wrong section. Secondly, who cares. Thirdly, oh no, not this again. I bet Tamim went up to Sachin and asked "Oh come you did not pick me for you IPL team". I remember during Pak-Ind-Ban Tri-Series, he did the same thing. I heard UV go "Now!? We will talk later" I don't see Sachin going up to him and saying that to him. And even if he did, why bust that out to the media? And Sachin is being nice. I hardly doubt they wouldn't listen to Sachin's instruction.

This is stupid stuff from Tamim. Even if Tendulkar had said it and genuinely meant it, why announce it to the media in the middle of a World Cup. It embarrasses Tendulkar and makes himself look desparate.

Tendulkar and Dravid are the two most gentelmen players in India. It's ok that Tamim said it in the news paper. There is no harm. For some reason, Bombay didn't buy him but because of this, I am sure they will buy him in the next IPL.

I Just hope not.

I seen that too on TV at the end of the Bangladesh - Indian game after India won, I wasn't sure what Tamim was asking for.

I was thinking maybe he needs to sign a bat or something like that.

I reckon Tamim should have invited Sachin to his place and served him a grand dinner like Ash did for Sachin's nice gesture - at least, we could have had some more fun on the Caption thread!

It is quite possible that Sachin would have went to Tamim and told him this. I have heard Sachin speak highly of Tamim more than once. Also, I do not see any harm if Tamim plays in IPL for a month or so. Everyone has right to earn money and a cricketer's career is so short that they need it more. Only reason Virat Kohli came into Indian team and started performing is because of IPL. He had a good exposure of international cricketers and game even before he played for India. Playing in county or IPL will only increase the capability of a player.

Anyway, for now, only world cup should be the focus of Tamim.

I think Tamim has a “limelight monger” personality who wants to be surrounded by money and beautiful women. I wouldn’t be surprised if he is a sucker for cheap bollywood films, thus the craving for being in close proximity to bolloywood actresses for a possible chance of introduction and what not. And the only way to do that is by playing in IPL......I bet he woldn't mind playing for $50k.
This guy is definitely talented and craves success but at times I think he could be too self absorbent.
