ক্রীড়া প্রতিবেদক : ঘরোয়া ক্রিকেটের চেয়ে আন্তর্জাতিক ক্রিকেট কঠিন_এটা মানেন সবাই। তাই ঘরোয়া আসরে দুর্দান্ত নৈপুণ্য দেখিয়েও কেউ কেউ পথ হারিয়ে ফেলেন আন্তর্জাতিক ক্রিকেটে। কিন্তু মাহমুদউল্লাহ রিয়াদের ক্ষেত্রে বিষয়টি উল্টো। জাতীয় লিগ কিংবা প্রিমিয়ার লিগের চেয়ে তাঁর টেস্ট এবং ওয়ানডের ব্যাটিং গড় বেশি! যে কারণে এ ব্যাটিং অলরাউন্ডারকে উপরে খেলানোর দাবি ওঠে। মাহমুদউল্ল্লাহ নিজেও মিডল অর্ডারে খেলার ইচ্ছার কথা জানিয়ে আসছেন দীর্ঘদিন ধরে। গতকাল জিম্বাবুয়ে সফর প্রস্তুতির ফাঁকে আবারও জানালেন, 'পাঁচ নম্বর পজিশনটা আমার সবচেয়ে পছন্দ।'

মাহমুদউল্লাহর পছন্দের আগে ঘরোয়া এবং আন্তর্জাতিক ক্রিকেটে তাঁর নৈপুণ্যের পার্থক্যটা জানানো দরকার। জাতীয় লিগে খেলা ৫২ ম্যাচে তাঁর ব্যাটিং গড় ৩৫.৪৯। ৯ টেস্টে যা ৩৬.৮৭। ১১০টি লিস্ট-এ ম্যাচে মাহমুদউল্লাহর গড় ৩০.৮৬। ৬৮ ওয়ানডের ব্যাটিং গড় সামান্য হলেও বেশি, ৩০.৯০। ঘরোয়া এবং আন্তর্জাতিক ক্রিকেটে আরো একটি রীতিবিরুদ্ধ ব্যাপার ঘটিয়েছেন মাহমুদউল্লাহ। লোয়ার অর্ডারের চেয়ে মিডল অর্ডার ব্যাটসম্যানদের ব্যাটিং গড়টা স্বাস্থ্যবান থাকে। কিন্তু লোয়ার অর্ডারে খেলেই ঘরোয়া ক্রিকেটে নিজের ব্যাটিং গড়কে পেছনে ফেলেছেন তিনি। একদিকে দলের কম্বিনেশন, অন্যদিকে এ ধারার কারণেই সাবেক কোচ জেমি সিডন্স মাহমুদউল্লাহকে আগে ব্যাটিংয়ে পাঠাতে খুব একটা আগ্রহবোধ করতেন না।

অবশ্য সাবেক কোচের অধীনে শেষ আন্তর্জাতিক ম্যাচে মিডল অর্ডারেই ব্যাটিং করেছিলেন মাহমুদউল্লাহ। অস্ট্রেলিয়ার বিপক্ষে সিরিজের তৃতীয় ওয়ানডের ওই ইনিংসে চার নম্বরে নেমে ৬৮ রানে অপরাজিত ছিলেন তিনি, 'কোথায় ব্যাটিং করব, এটা দলীয় সিদ্ধান্তের ব্যাপার। শেষ ম্যাচে চার নম্বরে ব্যাট করেছিলাম। তবে পাঁচ নম্বর পজিশনটা আমার সবচেয়ে পছন্দ।' পছন্দের এ পজিশনে চারটি টেস্ট ইনিংসে ব্যাট করেছিলেন মাহমুদউল্লাহ। ২০১০ সালে ইংল্যান্ডের বিপক্ষে হোম সিরিজে তাঁর সেই ইনিংসগুলো ছিল যথাক্রমে ৫১, ৫, ৫৯ ও ৬। কিন্তু বাংলাদেশের এ জায়গাটি নড়বড়ে থাকার পরও মিডল অর্ডারে খেলার সুযোগ পাননি মাহমুদউল্লাহ। ওয়ানডেতে তবু সাত নম্বরে সুযোগ মেলে। কিন্তু টেস্টে আট-নয় নম্বরই বরাদ্দ মাহমুদউল্লাহর জন্য। ৯ টেস্টে একটি সেঞ্চুরির সঙ্গে চার ফিফটি করা ব্যাটসম্যানকে 'টেল এন্ডার' বানিয়ে রাখা কতটা যৌক্তিক, সেটি ভাবার সময় বুঝি এসেছে।

তবে জিম্বাবুয়ে সফরের প্রস্তুতিকালে আরেকটি ভাবনা প্রতিনিয়তই ঠেলে দেওয়া হচ্ছে বাংলাদেশ দলের ওপর। ওয়ানডের ব্যাটিং পাওয়ার-প্লে বরাবরই দুরূহ বিষয় জাতীয় দলের জন্য। আইসিসির নতুন আইনে সেই পাওয়ার প্লের জন্য এখন নির্দিষ্ট সময়কালও বেঁধে দেওয়া হয়েছে। তবে সেটা নিয়ে আপাতত ভাবতেই রাজি নন মাহমুদউল্লাহ, 'জিম্বাবুয়ে সফরের শুরুতে টেস্ট ম্যাচ। তাই পাওয়ার প্লে নিয়ে ভাবছি না।' টেস্ট ভাবনাতেও উঁকি দিচ্ছে দীর্ঘদিন দীর্ঘ পরিসরের ক্রিকেট না খেলার অনভ্যস্ততা, 'আমি জাতীয় লিগে খেলেছি। এদিকে জিম্বাবুয়ে অনেক বছর পর টেস্টে ফিরছে। তাই ওদের চেয়ে আমরা অনেক সুবিধাজনক অবস্থানে আছি।' সে অবস্থানটাকে সুদৃঢ় করার জন্য নির্বাচক হাবিবুল বাশারের কাছ থেকে 'টিপস'ও নিচ্ছেন তিনি, 'জিম্বাবুয়েতে আগে কখনো টেস্ট খেলিনি। তাই সুমন ভাইয়ের কাছ থেকে হারারে আর বুলাওয়ের উইকেট কেমন আচরণ করে, তা জানছি।' তার মানে নতুন মৌসুমের জন্য আটঘাট বেঁধে তৈরি হচ্ছেন মাহমুদউল্লাহ। নতুন কোচ যদি নতুন মঞ্চও দেন তাঁকে!

 ক্রিকেটারদের স্ত্রীদেরও তো ব্যক্তিগত জীবনে অনেক সময় অনেক ত্যাগ স্বীকার করতে হয়। বিয়ের পরপরই যেমন তাঁকে ফেলে বিদেশে চলে যাচ্ছেন...এসব নিয়ে আলাপ হয়েছে?
মাহমুদউল্লাহ: আলাপ হয়েছে। সে এমনিতেও অনেক ম্যাচিউরড। এসব বোঝে, জানে, খেয়ালও রাখে। আমাকে সারা দিন হয়তো মাঠেই সময় দিতে হয়। তবে মাঠের বাইরের সময়টুকু তাকে দেওয়ার চেষ্টা করি।
 কখনো বিরক্ত হয় না?
মাহমুদউল্লাহ: না, বিরক্ত হয় না। সাহায্যই করে। আরও সেও তো পড়াশোনা নিয়ে ব্যস্ত। আমি ব্যস্ত খেলা নিয়ে। সময় ভালোই যাচ্ছে দুজনের।
 মধুচন্দ্রিমা করবেন না? জিম্বাবুয়েতে সঙ্গে নিলেই পারেন...
মাহমুদউল্লাহ: নিতে চাচ্ছি না কারণ জিম্বাবুয়ে সফরের সময় ওর ফাইনাল পরীক্ষা শুরু হবে। আর জিম্বাবুয়েতে এমন কিছু নেইও...আমিও সারা দিন মাঠেই থাকব। বিরক্ত হবে। তার পরও দলের আর কেউ বউ নিয়ে গেলে হয়তো চেষ্টা করতাম। তবে জিম্বাবুয়ে থেকে আসার পর ইনশাআল্লাহ হানিমুনে যাওয়ার ইচ্ছা আছে। মালয়েশিয়া...সিঙ্গা� �ুর, হয়তো দুই দেশেই ঘুরে আসতে পারি। কিংবা দুবাই...।

মাহমুদউল্লাহ: শ্বশুর, শাশুড়ি, শ্যালক—তাঁরা প্রথমে ক্রিকেটের প্রতি অত আগ্রহী ছিল না। তবে বিয়ের কথা শুরু হওয়ার পর তাঁরাও ক্রিকেটের প্রতি আগ্রহী হলেন...বিশেষ করে আমার শ্বশুর। সব সময় আমার খেলার খোঁজখবর নেন। আমার ভালো পারফরম্যান্সের ব্যাপারে উনি খুবই আশাবাদী। সঙ্গে আমার পরিবারের সাপোর্ট তো আছেই।

Mahmudullah needs to realise that his batting technique and psychological strength is great.All he needs to do is become aggressive in ODI and improve his strike rate.Hope he already learnt how to become angry and hit more often than not from his new wife.

He averaged 41 in the last year in Tests. I think it would be a ridiculous decision to bat him in the lower order. He has to come in at #5 surely.

He has an awesome average this year in ODI's, he has a decent test average, and he can play attacking strokes once he gets going. This is why he has to bat up the order.

He has been steady I admit - he played a pivotal role along with Shafiul in the WC game against England and scored an impressive 68* against Australia but I don't think it's worth getting too excited over yet.

Actually, he's scored at a decent rate, against quality opposition. I'm not getting exited by any stretch of the imagination, but more because he is showing his ability, and hopefully can kick on now in his career. His not outs also have to be given some credit that he puts value on his wicket, not simply slog and get out, but play proper shots at a good rate. It wasn't 6 innings, it was 7 btw . He has also opened an opportunity to bat higher up the order, something he should of done since the beginning of his career. It's not the stats just back all this up.
