Default Bangladesh Premier League (BPL)

Perhaps, Lotas forgot that Dhaka league once upon a time was what IPL is today where players like Akram, Arjuna, Afridi, Heath Streak, Jayasuriya like player got their paycheck.Heck even Yuvraj Singh played at 'Corporate leage'. Chittagong league attracted Shoaib Akhter, Razzaque, A. Blizzard, Malik... Why do we need a BPL when DPL and PCL already did it successfully?

After IPL, the equation is now changed... unless there are money in the 100,000s, you wont get star players and the world already has too many cricket going on...So, dream on ( but find a national coach first..)

Its about time our players start earning in range of 50000 USD +
for the past few years, its stuck at around only 25-30 lakhs...
well, if u really wanna make cricketers emerge out of nowhere, mind you, its money in the end that will drive you further, remeber curtly ambrose telling that he never really liked cricket, but thats the only way he could earn ahandsome amount of money...so thats why he chose this profesion at a time when wi cricket was going thru good times....ask any indian youngster, and the fact is, when u see incredible amounts of money that is actually not possible by doing any other high level jobs in country, than even parents wont stop u from doing it, (ofocurse not illegal stuffs)...so the next time, parents of our country wont stop their children from p0laying cricket if they find he's extremely good in it...

we should accept the reality, gone are the days when people actually do jobs only for the love of it, ofcourse thats there..but its not the only reason.....the fact is, people want to be a star and lead a clebrity life style...who deosnt....and if cricket can give u that, why not? good to see our cricket going in that direction...and i was talking abt 50000+ only from this BPL....not the whole annual salary.....lol, that would be too low

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) stepped ahead with their grand plan to organise the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), a domestic Twenty20 cricket league in the mode of Indian cash-rich IPL. The cricket board has already approached an Indian company to give them the liability of the tournament for the coming three years, revealed a reliable source of BCB. The cricket apex body however claimed Tk. 75 crore from the company.
The BCB earlier in the last year organised NCL Twenty20 which drew a lot of attraction and created a great enthusiasm. But unfortunately the board could not stick with the league this year, largely due to the ICC Cricket World Cup.
Therefore the cricket affluent body tried to come up with more innovative league. That’s why the NCL Twenty20 is now transformed into BPL Twenty20.
The board though is yet to find an appropriate time slot for holding the tournament but they are in series of discussions to organise it ahead of the Dhaka Premier Division Cricket starts off.
The board also wants to include the tournament in the domestic cricket calendar and the discussion is still going on in this connection.
Though it is yet to fix how many teams will play in the league, it is almost decided that six to eight teams will play. The leading corporate house of the country could buy the team from the BCB but they would have to pay more than a crore taka to buy the franchise.
Each franchise could register three foreigners and BCB will decide their value, sources said.
It was learnt that two board directors were given the onus to look after the matter and earned the nod from the ICC to organise the tournament. The two directors now are in Dubai to get the nod from the world cricket apex body.

The max price given to any player was Shoaib Akhtar at USD 18000...thats really peanuts.....i hope they atleast make the matches home and away....spread the game.....not only at Mirpur please.....we have got Khulna, Rajshahi, Chittagong, Bogra.....if the costs are gonna be high, make it,, no need to just make it one stupid event with all matches at same ground..am tired of that really..let it really be a revolution.....and for starters, i hope atleast the players can earn decent money around 40000 to 50000 USD

Lets see how big can they make it....it will be truly judged by the players they rope in....coz todays players wont accept small sums of money given the high pay they receive nowadays

Nowadays there are many domestic leagues...if it can be just second to IPL, then BPL gonna be a success!

Those who are doubting about size of paycheck should know that Sheikh Jamal is planning to play Dhaka league first time and they are going to spend 5 crores taka according to club officials. And it is just for a city based cricket tournament. BPL will generate more money than SlPL. Good tv deal alone can get us some million dollars. Plus there are revenue from ticket income and lucrative sponsorship. A properly broadcast and hyped tournament will really attract our fans. This will be a good tournament if happens.

Why every single T20 tournament has to be named some Premier League? Why can't it be something else like Bangladesh Cup, Dhaka Cup or even better Bangabandhu Championship ? Australia used to call their t20 championship Big Bash, now they added League to it. PPL, SPL, BPL- the cricket world is lacking in imagination. I am sure BPL will be a carbon copy of IPL with cheer leaders and crappy commentators.
