Default Stuart Law or Mick Newell ?!?

There was a thread over Barnes and Law selection...However, things have shortened up between Law and Newell now...anyone of them will be our probable Head Coach.

I personally go for Mick Newell...please state your choice and reasons.

As long as the coach can speak English, hold a ball and try to win, then we're okay.... not.

I'm not sure. Newell has good coaching pedigree, but the only representative side he has ever coached is England Under 19s.

Law at least has been involved in international cricket with Sri Lanka. Vincent Barnes would have been a good choice.

I think Law will get it, but Newell might be the better appointment...

You dont need to play the game 'at the highest level' to be a great coach.

I have never been a CEO of even the local cha er dokan, but I can guarantee you that I can do a better job than Loitta as BCB prez.

who ever doesnt want to ditch our cricket team during IPL. that person will give their 100%, not thinking about how to earn quick buck during IPL.

I'm not sure who that was aimed at.

To clarify my post, I wasn't referring to playing at the highest level but rather noting that Newell has never coached a representative side before.

By that I mean, as far as I am aware, he has never coached an 'A' team or national side (either as coach or assistant coach).

Siddons had been on the Australian coaching staff in 2005, Law was with Sri Lanka as was Dav Whatmore.

He could still be a good choice, but Newell has only ever coached first class counties and England Under 19s....

Newell worked with 'England Lions', which is basically the England 'A' Team. Some newspapers have been misreporting saying that he coached the under 19 English side.

County teams still beat us comfortably. If he is a proven coach at the county level we should take him.

He has coached both sides so the reports are correct.

On another subject, you guys need to end this "he has not been involved as a coach at this level before' nonsense.

Ottis Gibson (WI), John Buchanan (AUS), Gary Kirsten (IND), Stuart Law (SL), Tom Moody (SL), Mickey Arthur (SA), Andy Flower (ENG), Waqar Younis (PAK), Dav Whatmore etc etc etc etc etc, all first time international coaches when they took their jobs.

A world class or first class coach is a coach regardless of the level of the team he coaches. It is probably desirable if that coach has coached and worked with players at development level, too - helping bring players through from beneath international cricket. This means he understands what needs to happen to improve teams and is not just a show pony.

I expressed similar opinion in another coach-related thread. And from what i've seen in some forums, he is being considered as the future England HC. He also does not have temporary want-aways during ipl or big bash. so my vote: NEWELL in a heart beat.

I think Pont has summarized it nicely! I would love to see the coach work with his passion, wants to win at any cost from any situation. Coaching is not a part time job. Like the players, the more they practice the better they get, same with the coach the more time they spend on coaching, teaching, preparing and working on gameplans etc. the they better off they will be. Any please work with 30+ players, not just playing 11...

People need to realise that being a top-class int'l player does not automatically make you a good coach

We need a poll.

My vote would have gone to Stuart Law but without the IPL/Big Bash option. So at this moment I will go for Mick Newell.

I don't have any objection about those two coaches of their capability or skills. But I cann't understand on which basis BCB want to choose a coach and which skill they give preference selecting a coach?

A general job description was posted on newspapers when BCB advertised the post of head coach. I guess BCB have a list of more specific requirements for the coach. the advert stated something like experience in coaching test/first class team, and playing test/first class.

BCB waits for green signal
Sports Reporter

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is awaiting confirmation from the impending head coach of the national cricket team.

BCB CEO Manzur Ahmed, who confirmed last week that they will confirm the deal within their target timeline of June 15, told the Daily Star Sport yesterday that the confirmation can come any time.

"We are waiting everyday for the confirmation because it is now a matter of time. We get it and it can come any time," said Manzur, without elaborating on anything when inquired about the timeline.

BCB has finalised the whole thing regarding appointment of the new coach for the Tigers but they were not ready to disclose the name until receiving confirmation from their desired man.

It is all but confirmed that Australian Stuart Law, who is now accompanying the Sri Lanka team in England as an interim head coach, is going to take the helm of the Tigers if everything goes smoothly but it may take few more days.

The third and final Test between England and Sri Lanka is from June 16 to 20.

^^^ And I will laugh at BD newspapers if it is not Law.
And I can't beleive a week has passed. This is a sign of Akhira. I can't believe I thought a week would be long.

Well tomorrow is the deadline. If they don't, I will have lost complete trust in BCB. I will support Ireland.
Lol, pfffft, like I'll ever do that?
