Insight Into Halal Slaughter
I have found this video quite incredible really. Amazing spiritual insight and effects of "tasmiyyah" in relation to the merciful and halal slaughter of the animals. Subhaan Allah! This has lend a whole new meaning and dimension of the term 'submission', to me.

from my understanding once the common carotid arteries are severed...consciousness is lost immediately (i.e animal dies before they can feel pain) + the bleeding out is healthier for consumption not to mention less gross.
but by that token, wouldn't the Sikh practice of "jatkha" decapitation be equally good? does anyone understand the science behind that?

Every soul will taste death. Not feeling the pain? I do not know.
(jatkha) No.
decapitating creates blood clot and thus blood gets trapped in the meat.
On the other hand, in Halal slaughter, the animal's brain still asking for blood flow (since the neorons are still connected) thus the heart pumps forcefully through the arteries. Thus the meat becomes as close as blood free. The two methods cannot be same (equal).

yes, watched this clip before. amazing how the animals - as he says - submit. when i first watched this video, my immediate thought was - dang, our deshi koshais ought to see this. the way they wrestle with animals, especially during korbanir eid, is just not ok.
here is a link which shows a scientific experiment that was done to compare the pain experienced between halal method and stunning. and you know who is the winner, don't you?

Decapitation is not part of Halal zabiha. Although the correct method of slaughter is one of the fundamental aspects of Halal meat but equally important are the proper care, treatment and handling of the animals prior to slaughter. The pronouncement of Tasmiyyah - Bismillah Allahu Akbar is THE most fundamental part of Halal slaughter. The meat becomes safe and permissible for consumption by the virtue of taking permission and exhalting Allah's name upon slaughter.
Btw, the Halal meat being permissible doesn't mean we should indulge in it. Our beloved prophet (sallallahu 'alaihi wasallam) very rarely ate meat. Also, Hazrat 'Umar (radiallahu 'anhu) has warned us about the over consumption of meat. We muslims, particularly in the West, are consuming meat really at an alarming rate!!

yeah eating less red meat is healthy...but i love burgers, a good steak, and lamb chops.
Prophet ate less meat, because he was poor. He often just ate dates and water for dinner despite being the most powerful man on the penninsula.

Something doesn't add up here!
The fact that the Prophet (sallallahu 'alaihi wa sallam) chose to eat less meat has very little to do with his economic background. I suggest you read Ihya 'Uloom Uddin or other books which discusses the inner dimensions of prophetic Sunnah or practices.

Great share this, Sakib!
Slaughtering with a knife (The Islamic Method)
1. The first 3 seconds from the time of the slaughter (in the Islamic Method) as recorded on the EEG did not show any change from the graph before slaughter, thus indicating that the animal did not feel any recognisable pain during or after the incision.
2. During the following 3 second, the EEG recorded a condition of deep sleep-unconsciousness. This is due to the large quantity of blood gushing out of the body. The sudden and profuse bleeding from the incision on the neck causes a shock resulting in a state of unconsciousness due to severe shortage of blood supply to the vital centers located in the brain.
3. After the above-mentioned 6 seconds, the EEG recorded zero level, showing no feeling of pain at all.
4. As the brain message (EEG) dropped to zero level, the heart was still pounding and the body convulsing vigorously (a reflex action of the spinal cord) driving out a maximum amount of blood from the body, thus resulting in hygienic meat for the consumers.
Captive Bolt Pistol (CBP) Stunning Method
1. The animals were apparently unconscious soon after stunning.
2. But EEG showed severe pain immediately after stunning.
3. The hearts of animals stunned by CBP stopped beating earlier as compared to those of the animals slaughtered according to the Islamic method, resulting in the retention of more blood in the meat. This in turn is unhygienic for the consumer.
CBP Method and mad cow disease (MCD)

Nice video and a question came to my mind after watching this -
If you manage to close the eye of the lamb (in this video using the ear), will it submit like this even you do not use God's name?
