BCB seeks fair FTP
India tour still elusive
Sports Reporter

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) will appeal for fair distribution in the next Future Tours Programme (FTP).

BCB CEO Manzur Ahmed, who will leave Dhaka on June 24 to attend the two-day CEOs meeting, informed that they have proposed to different cricket boards for the reasonable allocation.

“We are not asking for equal distribution rather we are asking for fair distribution. Everything is mostly depending on the respective boards, so mutual understanding and interest is the most important thing in this regard and that's why we have already proposed to different boards,” explained Manzur.

Although there has been a whispering that top-ranked sides are reluctant to host Bangladesh but there has been a fair number of Test, ODI and T20 matches in the proposed FTP for the next eight years, which will be effective from June 2012 to April 2020.

Bangladesh is likely to get around 50 Test matches, 79 one-day internationals and 17 T20 internationals in the span of eight years as per the proposed FTP but once again there was no schedule for Bangladesh to visit India to play a full series.

The tenth member of the Test elite club, Bangladesh, visited all the other Test nations for playing full series except India. Since being elevated into the Test club in 2002, Bangladesh hosted India several times but the neighbours have yet to invite the Tigers to play a full series in their country which raised many eyebrows.

According to the proposed new FTP there is no scope for Bangladesh to visit India for Test series in the next eight years which meant Bangladesh cricket team will deprive from playing Test match in India in 20 years of their entrance into the Test cricket.

The finger however has been raised towards the Bangladesh officials as many believed that they have not tried enough to make it happen as the home series against India is always financially more viable for Bangladesh cricket.

Manzur however said that everything is not finished with the proposed FTP.

“As I said earlier that everything depends on the respective boards. Right at the moment we have two home series against India but we will try to accommodate at least one away series against India within next eight years time. Nothing is final yet,” hoped Manzur.

The former cricketer was also hopeful about the pending Test series against Australia. “Most probably Australia is offered to play the pending Test series in 2014 but we are trying to make it happen in 2013,” said Manzur.

He also informed that the ICC AGM will be held on June 30 where the main agenda will be whether the ICC president will be elected or go on with the current rotation policy.

Bangladesh is in favour of completion of the circle of the rotation policy before going into the election.

i think we shud be invited to play at least 1-2 tests and 3 odi series in India, and I believe if the tests and ODIs are hosted in Eden, there will be a fair amount of gathering.

the BCCI and CAB(Cricket Association of Bengal) arent the best of friends, so BCCI wont care giving CAB to organize the lesser team (in their eyes) of Bangladesh to tour India.

What is such a big issue of not playing in India. If they don't want let it be that way. Its good for us that they tour us and we fill our coffers. India are not like touring England or SA or WI or Aus where the conditions are different and our team will get an exposure. The Indian pitches are similar to what we have here in Bangladesh. Out team won't gain much exposure

I think in Bangladesh it is a issue made out of non issue

at least they're trying to get more fixtures for us...a few 3 test series would be nice if they can't secure more tours.

They tour us more than the fair share and that benefits BCB more. So as long as they keep touring us every 2-3 years I'm fine with it. Although it would be nice to tour them once. But BCB is equally to blame for that not happening.

We must start playing much better cricket than what we are doing now. Watching our batting is like the same video on rewind. Four wickets down by the score of hundred, some sort of recovery in the middle overs with excruciatingly slow run rate and then another collapse just before the power play. Nobody likes to see one sided contests consisting of odi losses by huge margins and innings defeats in tests. I can understand the lack of interest from the top sides because they really have nothing to gain from this until we show some balls, build a bowling attack capable of 20 wkts and start putting up a fight consistently.

I am glad we are not touring India because that would be a humiliation of our bowling attack. I would be happy if we can fit in more series against NZ, WI, Ireland, Zim and test our strength before going for bigger scalps.

What's the point?

Focus on something that would benefit in the long run.

1. Local pitches, stadiums.
2. Umpires and coaches for local teams.
3. Autonomy to the local divisions. Including advertising, creating their own budget, leagues (U-19), college etc. Having their own facilities Gym, A team, and divisional team, coaching staff, trainers, physios etc. Decentralize of power. (EVERYONE KNOWS THIS YET NOONE CARES TO IMPLEMENT for the last 10 years)
4. Fan involvement.
5. Talent search.

I care less about having 4/5 matches in Ind.

Exactly, But our BCB never think so. When it will be implement nobody can say. BCB always think how organise some international series or how to tour other country which will make money but if they implement those things they have to spend money.

Until we get past the talented, yet gullible to easy mistake stage, we will never get full international respect.

i have to agree. as long as India tours every 2-3 years, and plays a full strength side (which they have so far), then i guess we can't really complain. its not a total snub. don't get me wrong, i think a BD-IND test at Eden Gardens would be fatanstic for all fans in Bengal, and I think the "financial excuse" offered doesn't really hold much water, at least it shouldn't. but for the time being, we need to focus on getting better.

Now BCB should take effective steps to improve our team performance without blaming India or any other country. We have to get respect with our performance. No need lobbing to tour India.
