Default Tamim Iqbal Khan: We're Still Going to Win; Jarvis is ordinary nothing special

http://www.espncricinfo.com/zimbabwe...ry/526406.html

Quote:
obody can accuse Tamim Iqbal of being modest. The Bangladesh opening batsman was bullish at the end of the fourth day's play, confident that his team would emerge comfortable winners because Zimbabwe's bowlers pose no threat to their line-up.

"He's just ok, he's nothing special," Tamim said of Kyle Jarvis, who took two wickets late in the day to swing the advantage Zimbabwe's way. "I'm just being honest and telling the truth." He was similarly unimpressed with Brian Vitori, the left-arm seamer whose four wickets in the first innings did substantial damage to Bangladesh's cause. "He's ordinary."

So, if neither of Zimbabwe's two strike bowlers pose any danger to Bangladesh, what stands in their way on their journey to victory in Harare? "Ourselves," Tamim said. "The wicket is flat so if we don't make mistakes or do anything silly, we should win."

Tamim believed his own innings was a demonstration of how the rest of the line-up should bat, without fear. "I was going beautifully and if I was still there we would have had more runs," he said. "I had a plan, which was to play my shots and I was doing that. It's just bad luck that I got out, that happens in cricket."

Despite his crash and burn innings in a tall task for Bangladesh, Tamim praised Zimbabwe's captain Brendan Taylor for his sporting declaration, saying it created an opportunity for a good finish. "It was a clever declaration. If they had batted for one hour after tea, we would have been happy to bat for the other hour and might not have gone for the chase, so this was clever."

Tamim displays a rare confidence, that is often absent in Bangladesh players and indicated that soon, the rest of the squad may start talking the talk like he does, although he admitted that they don't often walk the walk. "Every individual player knows their game now, so that has a come a long way. We still have a lot to learn and that will come if we play a lot more Test cricket. We can't have a 14-month break," he said, using the opportunity to also take a snipe at those in charge of the scheduling.

The only group who escaped his criticism were his own team-mates and Tamim wasn't disappointed with their fielding effort, despite their lack of firepower. "Maybe they could have done a little more with the new ball but Robiul [Islam] and Rubel [Hossain] played their hearts out and it was nice to see that."
Writing checks that others have to cash, TIK?

he was bit arrogant, i must have say.but rest of our batsman should think same way that their bowlers are not special and if they can show patience we might win.

Well.. he spoke his mind, and he wasnt being hypocritical. He could bat like what he did because he believed what he does..and thats exactly the message he tried to give to the whole team. As it is said 'you are only as big as you think you are'!

Well Mushy was sent up and Nafees was trying hold on for dear life. So his sentiment hasn't been shared by his teammates

To me, Tamim doesn't mean that he wants his team mates to play boom boom innings. Actually the RRR is below 3. So it's not needed. The message he tried to pass is "PLAY FEARLESS". He targeted Vitori so that he cannot make any impact in this innings.

If the boys can believe that they can win this one, then inshallah we will win.

I will now refrain from saying anything about Sehwag until we destroy Zimbabwe in a Test match (whenever that might be).

Ordinary or not, he got wickets on a flat pitch. Thats your fault, Tamim!

Emon Tamim is doing a trick here. At least he is trying to do something unlike his captain who surrendered while fielding in the second innings.

He bats like Sehwag, now he talks like Sehwag. Hope he scores a few 300s before he starts losing hair like Sehwag

That was disrespectful. I'd have preferred ''Jarvis WAS not anything special (whether he was or not is open to discussion..I din't even watch the whole play..lol!) it's just us who played a few poor shots''. Totally belittling someone's skills is just WRONG, be that your opponents.

I remember us all having a proper go at Sehwag for what his comments on our bowlers, how is this any different?

It will be difficult to win from here, I do not know his source of optimism. Our boys are not renowned for playing sensible cricket, probably the opposite is their brand. Having said that, all three results are still possible in this match.

So why do they get all suicidal when Sehwag says the same thing? If Zim bowlers are ordinary and nothing special than how does he rate Rubel, Shafiul, Robiul and Razzak? Ektu beshi baira gese amader player'ra. I don't appreciate this at all. If we lose he and his captain will have to pay the price for all I care.

It's not BS, they're just saying it as it is. You want them to say good stuff about BD when there isn't anything to say? Just admit it, BD have been poor in this match and they have shown that either they were ill-prepared for this match or they don't deserve test status. Unfortunately Tamim is going to eat his words tomorrow and I hope that one day he will grow up and stop acting like a bloody adolescent!!! Good night guys :-)

Tamim lost his wicket today , because of losing his concentration by arguing with the umpire for non issue .
When will he learn to close his mouth and score some runs

First off, Bangladesh will lose this test within two sessions by a very big margin. Zimbabwe has dominated the majority of sessions in this game and have looked like the better team. It's fantastic that Tamim has the self-belief and the confidence in his teammates to think that we can still pull it off. But his remarks were in poor-taste and was condescending to his opponents. Every international cricketer knows that Bangladesh cricketers are "ordinary" but we will find it disrespectful if anyone points that out. If we are fine with his comments, why were we so up in arms when Sehwag dissed our team? The kid needs some lessons in public speaking.
