Sunny set to get selectors’ nod
Selectors have primarily selected an 18-member squad for next month’s Twenty20 match and one-day series against the West Indies, sources within the Bangladesh Cricket Board said on Wednesday.
The squad, which is still under scrutiny, is likely to be announced on Friday subject to the BCB president’s approval.
Left-arm spinner Elias Sunny is the only uncapped player to have been included in the squad which saw no room for batsman Junaed Siddique and paceman Robiul Islam.
Junaed and Robiul were parts of the squad that toured Zimbabwe in August.
Naeem Islam, Alok Kapali and Shahadat Hossain will return to international cricket if the squad gets the final approval.
When contacted, a member of the selection committee admitted they are in favour of an 18-member squad for the series.
‘If we give a single squad for each Twenty20 and ODI series you can see a trimmed squad. Otherwise the squad will be a big one,’ he said, without giving any number.
The one-off Twenty20 match will be held on October 11. The three ODIs of the series will be held on October 13, 15 and 17.
Probable Squad: Mushfiqur Rahim (captain), Mahmudullah (vice-captain), Tamim Iqbal, Imrul Kayes, Shahriar Nafees, Mohammad Ashraful, Shubhagata Hom, Sakib al Hasan, Alok Kapali, Naeem Islam, Nasir Hossain, Abdur Razzak, Shafiul Islam, Rubel Hossain, Nazmul Hossain, Shahadat Hossain, Sohrawardi Shuvo, Elias Sunny.

Good for him. And good for Razzak as well. Now he got a competitor.
Sunny is also a good batsman. He batted really well in the last NCL FC league as a opening and middle order batsman.
T20 Team:
1. Tamim
2. Mush (Only available place for him in T20).
3. Ash
4. Shakib
5. Alok/Hom
6. Riyad
7. Nasir
8. Sunny
9. Razzak
10. Shaiful/Nazmul
11. Rubel

I wonder which spinner will replace razzak in tests, ideally razzak will not play another test because his bowling average is almost as high as the batting average of bradman. In Odi if you take away performance against Zimbabwe then his performances are average at best and he might as well be replaced if he does not improve

I'm on the fence about Alok, although I guess it wouldn't hurt to play him in the T20. Why is Shahadat in the squad?

This ain't the final squad. It's just probable. Obviously it might vary a lil bit.

Shahadat gets in because we need someone who will make Shafiul's economy rate look good in comparison.

He took 5 wickets in 4 matches with an average of a 33 and a economy rate of a 4.39 on green pitches of SA. I wouldn't say that those stats suck at all

I saw sunny bowling 3 overs.2 overs in last year NCL FC final and 1 over in BCB cup final. He looked intelligent bowler. His main weapon is probably line and length with flight variation. But he lacked spin thats a huge deficiency for an spiner.Over all i was impressed atleast he looked better than Shuvo.

As long as they dont select Raqibul for T20 or Imrul for Test... the squad looks acceptable. But why is Akram saying we dont have T20 players? Alok, Sabbir, Zia, Rasel are all quality T20 players who won Asian Cup and also won a recent Singapore tournament... Doesnt Akram know that?
