যদিও জাতীয় দলের সর্বকঠিন্ঠ এই ব্যাটসম্যান শেষপর্যন্ত শতক করেছেন। সেখানেও একটি কাহিনী আছে, “আমি যখন ৭৫ রানে ছিলাম তখন উমর আকমল বললেন শতকের জন্য চেষ্টা করো। চেষ্টা করলাম হয়ে গেছে।’

এই মুহূর্তে জাতীয় দলের একজন ক্রিকেটারকে যদি ধারাবাহিক বলতে হয় তিনি নাসির হোসেন। অভিষেক ম্যাচে জিম্বাবুয়ের বিপক্ষে অর্ধশতক করেছিলেন। নবম ম্যাচে এসে শতক পেলেন। তাও পাকিস্তানের মতো দলের বিপক্ষে। যারা বিশ্বক্রিকেটে এখন শীর্ষ দলগুলোর একটি। অসাধারণ ফর্মেও আছে। এক বছরে টানা ষষ্ঠ ওয়ানডে সিরিজ জেতা দলের বিপক্ষে ১৩১ বলে ১০০ রান করেছেন নাসির। ১১টি চার ও একটি ছয়ও ছিলো তার ইনিংসে।

নাসির সেই প্রথম দিকেই অউট হয়ে যেতে পারতেন। দুই দুই বার পুর্নজীবন পেয়েছেন। রানের খাতা খোলার আগে একবার এবং ব্যক্তিগত ৯ রানে দ্বিতীয়বার। সেই ব্যাটসম্যানই শতক হাঁকিয়ে দলকে বড় পরাজয়ের হাত থেকে রেহাই দিয়েছেন। ১৯ রানে চার উইকেট পড়ে যাওয়ার পর সাকিব আল হাসানের সঙ্গে নাসির ব্যাট করতে এসেছিলেন ষষ্ঠ ব্যাটসম্যান হিসেবে। ইনিংসের তিন বল বাকি থাকতে উমর গুলের বলে ক্যাচ তুলেছেন নাসির। মজার ব্যপার হলো আফ্রিদির মতো বিশ্বমানের বোলারের ওভারে একটি ছয় ও দুটি চার মেরে শতক পূর্ণ করেন।

অভিষেক শতক হওয়ার পর তিনি ব্যাট তুলেছিলেন। ওটাতেও একটা মজার ঘটনা আছে, “আমি মনে করেছিলাম ৯৮ রান হয়েছে। রিয়াদ ভাই বলার পর স্কোর বোর্ডে দেখি ১০০ রান। রিয়াদ ভাইকে বলি কিভাবে ব্যাট তুলবো। উনি (তিনি) বললেন তুল। তুললাম আর কী!’’পাকিস্তানের জয়ের ম্যাচেও নাসির ম্যাচ সেরার পুরস্কার পেয়েছেন। দিনের সেরা বলেই তাকে সংবাদ সম্মেলনে নিয়ে আসা। সেখানে যত তথ্য দিলেন, তারচেয়ে ঢের হাসির উপাত্ত ছুড়ে দিয়েছেন সাংবাদিকদের উদ্দেশে। ধরেন টপ অর্ডার রান পাচ্ছে না কেন জানতে চাওয়ায় উত্তর দিলেন,‘আমি বলবো কি করে? উনারা জানেন। তাই না?’

ভবিষ্যতের পরিণতি সম্পর্কে সতর্ক হওয়ার জন্য কি করেন? উত্তর,“ক্রিকেট খেলা নিয়ে কম চিন্তা করি। ভালো হলে ভালো। খারাপ হলে খারাপ।”

সিনিয়রার উজ্জীবিত হবে? “আমি দলের জুনিয়র। তারা হয়তো ভাববেন, নাসির পারলে আমরা পরবো না কেন।”

৫০ রান করে ব্যাট তোলেননি দল জিতবে না বলে। ১০০ রান করার পরেও তো দল জেতেনি? “এই ১০০ রানেরও কোন দাম নেই। তার পরেও মনের প্রশান্তি।”

এই হলেন বাংলাদেশের ২০ বছর বয়সী নাসির হোসেন।

That's what we are good at, aren't we? Scrutinize each and every movement of our stars and putting extra burden of expectations on them once they get going. I think Tamim-Shakib era is coming to an end soon. Hope they don't do the same with Nasir and other upcoming stars. One Ash is enough for us:

I hope you are right. I am such a big fan of these 2 but it breaks my heart when I don't see them performing to their standard . Just imagine with Nasir in the team how strong we have become in the batting line up. If only Tamim-Mushy-Shakib all were in form today we could have easily win the match. Today our bowling (barring Raz n sunny's few over) and fielding was good / decent. Nasir clicked today but Shak went into the shell and don't even know wat goes through Tamim's mind when he tries to reach a wide ball. The main problem is we never click as a team. Sometimes it's Tamim, sometimes Mushy and most of the time Shakib and now Nasir comes to rescue the team. Why can't at least 3 of them click and play a meaningful innings. I really don't know where our cricket is heading .

One short term solution to this could be to push the entire middle order up and let SN/Kayes come when 5 /6 down. Long term solution- bring in some fresh blood like Anamul/Mominul/Asif and for God's sake bring in Nazmul in a pace friendly pitch.

I agree with you about Nasir being the finisher at 6, but my batting line-up differs from yours. I would go for:

The batsmen at 2 is a real problem. I've had enough of Imrul, Nafees, Junaid etc. Whoever we choose it's going to be a gamble, but at this point I say roll the dice. There are a few options, Jahurul is one, however he has been in terrible form. We could go for one of the young prodigies Anamul or Asif and hope they do a " Nasir". We may even think about promoting Mushy to open and then putting someone like Naeem or Mominul at 4. In the long term I would go for one of the youngsters. I really hope the selectors pick Anamul, Asif and Mominul in the next A team games (against England Lions in Dec/Jan) so we know a little more about them and see if they can cope with International cricket. If they do well then I would go for one of them.

I have picked Shakib at 3, I have already been quite vocal about this, and I think it should be seriously considered. Despite today's innings (maybe he was just frustrated at always having to come in at disastrous situations and this was his way of protest ), he is still the best ODI batsman in the team. Ramiz Raja was also suggesting this promotion in his commentary.

Riyad gets a lot of stick in this forum, albeit some maybe deserved, however he has been in good form of late. In his last 10 games he's averaging 47 with a SR of 89. I think he deserves a run in the number 5 position.
As mentioned before Nasir has cemented that 6 "finisher" position.
Number 7 is another troublesome spot. Meh I'm all out of ideas after thinking about the above spots, long term I'm hoping Sabbir Rahman and Alauddin Babu develop into quality all-rounders to take the 7 and 8 positions.

i reckon if we promote anyone from the current team to the 2/3 spots it's mushy. shakib is best at 4 or 5 imo. but i think we should do #4 mushy 5 shakib 6 nasir. riyad would be at 7 so we have to find players for 2/3 and they would be imo shuvagata, anamul, asif or mominul.

now i know riyad gets a lot of stick and nasir is better suited to the #7 spot than riyad but nasir's century has convinced me that he's deserves to bat higher than riyad....but long term we need to find someone who can hit better than riyad....

Shakib should bat at 3. Rahim is perfect for 4- stat shows. Shakib is batting to low. He can't do anything coming in at 14/3 and deal with 20/6. He is the guy who can stop that fall. Therefore he should bat at 3.

Need Siddique back, he was doing a fair enough job at 3...

I don't think promoting anyone from the middle order is a good idea. We need to bring in new faces and groom them to play in that position rather than making a middle order batsman change his game. This might have adverse effect on Shakib or Nasir or anyone who is performing at designated positions.
