I really appreciated that he batted according to the situation seeing as he's known as 'chokka' Naeem, where as the top order batsmen was still trying to go for the boundaries as wickets were tumbling down around them.

No point in over hyping him, he has yet to do anything special for people to be saying he will be a great test player. Remember strike rate is not important in test cricket, avg needs to be above 40 to be considered a good test batsmen. Let him score a few centuries and play in overseas conditions.

Naeem may not turn out to be a great player, and he may not score a single century. And he may not be the most talented players and definitely not make all the righ decisions.
But what he provide in this team is somthing most of our talented players are not capable of doing so. He plays the supporting role, he hold the wicket at one end, he makes sure opponent players are furstrated and tired... theses small things, which are not sexy nor it is highligthed in the stat. These type of batsman help you win TEST for less talented teams like us.
And then when we were losing wickets after wickets... we demoted him to bat at #7 ? I don't understand their strategy at all. What they were trying to do? Naeem is too slow and they need to score quick runs at that point?

What a throw !! The run out was magnificent !! Best fielder in the team. He should bat at no. 3 or 4

Naeem is here to stay in my opinion. That was an impressive innings when the team was heavily under pressure. We need players that can stay around from session to session. Once Riyad comes back though, that #7 spot will be taken by him. So I believe the fight will be for the #4 spot. Rokibul is 1 of the weak links of the team so Naeem could take the spot from him. Also Naeem has got the added advantage of his bowling. I believe the next innings of play will dictate which batsman will win out. Both have been decent so far in these tests.

I really miss Naeem Islam,MashaAllah i was very surprised and impressed with his success with the ball in ODI's when he played for our national team. Granted, Shakib hogged the highlights(that means he didn't really do exceptional with the ball) but whenever the breakthroughs were needed, Alhamdulillah! He came through.
He should definitely be tried for the Test team. Sad news for him is that, Competition keeps getting stiffer and tougher, so he has to improve exceptionally with the bat, like do something exceptional to get a national recall.
I really like his character, grit and determination. I think he is a class batsmen too, good coaching can do wonders for him inshaAllah...definitely one of our Best fielders.

I really feel bad for the players: The journalists really know how to get under your skin. it takes a lot of character to admit your own areas of weakness and to admit without expressing some form of anger or frustration that I failed and I need to improve.

In my view there are two kinds of batsman in international cricket. The aggressive flamboyant type like De Villiers, KP, Warner, Kohli etc, the slower but solid accumulators like Trott, Dravid, Misbah etc. Naeem never seemed like an accomplished batsman in either category or was he a strike bowler that would find a place in the team on bowling alone. He was in the team because he could bat and bowl... not because he was great at either. His tendency to stagnate the scoring was problematic for ODIs. When he opened and he never seemed to have the technique to survive against quality spin or pace bowling without resorting to blocking everything. He was a guy that used to "suffer" in the crease for long periods and then get out to a wild slog. Unless he improves his skill level substantially I am afraid the chances of comeback are quite limited.

Naeem Islam is an interesting cricketer. He can hit big sixes but he can also have a strike rate of 30 at times. Im not sure if he knows his role in the team. He could be effective with the right coaching.

Bumping this thread. Let's see what he does in Day 3. Coming back from great form in NCL and now all set for a decent score. Can he make it big?

Just came back in to the national team after a long time and now is the #4 batsman for Tests. He needs to really make it count. So far he's on 27*. Let's see if he can make it count or not.

Naeem looks well set, he is the only batsman with typical old school test batting temperament.
Hope he does well.

He looks like a perfect Test Batsman. We need more batsmen like him not T20.

But please don't yet ask him for the ODIs, even if he can make shots.. Let him be specialist test batsman and not ruin him ...

Getting labelled as Chokka Naeem was the worst thing ever happened to him.
Glad he got out of that.
