Ei Kada ei No Drainage situation in the Second most important Test venue of the country and then again and agin staging/hosting Intl matches here and facing this same picture over and over just plainly clearly portrays, proves how corrupt, irresponsible, wasteful, mis-guided, clueless and mocking internationational cricket (This was a Test Match for Heaven's sake) like this, how BCB and the governing body, sport authority, the government in general are !!! Spending millions on the Bangbandhu National Stadium for the sake of crickety, for the World_Cup Inauguration ceremony, but where there is no cricket match played, and then the SECOND most important cricket ground in the nation the Zahur Ahmed Chadhury Stadium in Chittagong gets Important Test Matches get washed out for the lack of basic rain water movement/drainage....ity makes me furious and should make any true and serious cricket enthusiasts alike....I highly doubt the officials of BCB, the Sports authority of Bangladesh and the sports ministery of Bangladesh really understand and value the game, the sport itself, the finance, the magnitude, weight of Test Cricket at all.....I strongly believ these people take it as a joke, as some sort of uncaring social work kind of thing, like going to a Lion's Club Meeting (and Lion's Club people are good people, I am just using it here as a club/social org thing, Shobha Conference etc, gelaam, boshlaam, gombhir hoiya kicsukkhon kotha shunlaam, tarpor kisukkhon ghumailaam chair-e dhuila dhuila, tarpor kichu nasta pani korlaam, tarpor kotogula Babooner moton Burp toultey tultey Paan chibaitey chibaiytey astey astey pacha mochraiya choilaa gelaam....baas kaaj shesh...BCB!

The match will now start 30 minutes before the scheduled time to minimise the time loss, but that may not be enough for the Tigers. Even a 9:00am start of third day’s play is also not guaranteed.

দুটি ঘটনায় মনে হতে পারে, পরশু রাতে বুঝি বৃষ্টিতে ভেসেই গেছে চট্টগ্রাম। জহুর আহমেদ চৌধুরী স্টেডিয়ামেরও দফারফা। পরেরটা ঠিক আছে। কাল সারা দিন কাঠ ফাটানো রোদ পড়লেও খেলার অনুপযুক্ত থেকে গেছে মাঠ। বেলা ১১টায় দ্বিতীয়বার মাঠ পর্যবেক্ষণ করেই তাই দিনের খেলা বাতিল করে দিলেন আম্পায়াররা। কিন্তু প্রথমটি ঠিক নেই। পরশু রাতে চট্টগ্রামে মোটেও ভাসিয়ে নেওয়ার মতো বৃষ্টি হয়নি। আবহাওয়া অফিসের সূত্র মতে, সন্দ্বীপে সারা দেশের মধ্যে সর্বোচ্চ ৫৯ মিলিমিটার বৃষ্টিপাত হলেও চট্টগ্রাম শহর ও এর আশপাশের এলাকায় পরিমাণটা মাত্রই ৩ মিলিমিটার!

ক্রিকেটের পরতে পরতে রেকর্ড হয়। তবে আগের রাতে মাত্র ৩ মিলিমিটার বৃষ্টিপাতের পর প্রখর সূর্যালোকের একটি দিনের ৫-৬ ঘণ্টা বাকি থাকতেই খেলা বাতিলের রেকর্ড বোধ হয় কালই হলো! এবং সেটা হলো খেলাটা চট্টগ্রাম বিভাগীয় স্টেডিয়ামে বলেই।

বৃষ্টির মৌসুমে এই মাঠে নির্বিঘ্নে ক্রিকেট হওয়ার নজির কমই আছে। যখনই বৃষ্টির উৎপাতে খেলায় বিঘ্ন ঘটে, ক্রিকেট বোর্ড ভবিষ্যতে মাঠ সংস্কারের প্রতিশ্রুতি দেয়, যে ‘ভবিষ্যৎ’ আজও বর্তমানে নামেনি। অসংখ্য প্রতিশ্রুতির পরও মাঠের পানিনিষ্কাশন-ব্যবস্থা থেকে গেছে সনাতন পদ্ধতির। গ্যালারির নিচে গর্তের মতো থাকায় আগে মাঠের পানিটা সময় নিয়ে হলেও একটা জায়গায় গিয়ে পড়ত, এখন সে ব্যবস্থাও নেই। বিশ্বকাপের সময় মাঠ সংস্কার করতে গিয়ে ভরাট করে ফেলা হয়েছে সেসব গর্ত। মাঠের পানি তাই এখন মাঠকেই শুষে নিতে হয়।
তাতে বিসিবি কর্তাদের কী? তাঁদের চাই আরও নতুন মাঠ। বৃষ্টির সঙ্গে দেশের দ্বিতীয় প্রধান ক্রিকেট ভেন্যুর লড়াইয়ের মধ্যেই কাল বোর্ড সভাপতি দল বেঁধে কক্সবাজার গেছেন নতুন স্টেডিয়ামের জায়গা দেখতে। আজকালের মধ্যে আরেকটা দলের নাকি সিলেটেও যাওয়ার কথা!

আধুনিক পানিনিষ্কাশন-ব্যবস্থা না থাকায় গত বিশ্বকাপের সময় চট্টগ্রামে মাঠ বাঁচাতে বিকল্প ব্যবস্থা নেওয়া হয়েছিল। সে অনুযায়ী পরশু রাতেও ঢেকে রাখা হয়েছিল পুরো মাঠ। কিন্তু কাভারের ফাঁক দিয়েই জায়গায় জায়গায় পানি ঢুকেছে। বৃষ্টির পানির এই ‘অবৈধ অনুপ্রবেশ’ অবশ্য তদন্তের দাবি রাখে। বিসিবির গ্রাউন্ডস কমিটির লোকজনের দাবি, কাভারের জোড়া লাগার জায়গাগুলো দিয়েই নাকি পানি ঢুকেছে। কিন্তু সেটা হলে তো মাঠের আরও অনেক জায়গাই পানিতে ভেজার কথা! সারা মাঠ ঢাকা হয়েছে ৩৬টি কাভার দিয়ে। একটির সঙ্গে অন্যটির সংযোগস্থলই যদি পানি ঢোকার কারণ হয়, মাঠ কেন নষ্ট হলো শুধু বাউন্ডারির দিকেই?

গ্র্যান্ড স্ট্যান্ডের ছাদ থেকে পুরো মাঠটাকে মনে হচ্ছিল বিমান থেকে দেখা ছোট কোনো ভূখণ্ডের মতো। উইকেট এবং তার আশপাশের অংশ শুকনো থাকলেও মাঠের কোথাও ধূসর, কোথাও সবুজ, বাউন্ডারির দিকে কয়েক জায়গায় থিকথিকে কাদায় কালো হয়ে আছে। ফিল্ডিংয়ের সময় খেলোয়াড়দের জন্য ঝুঁকিপূর্ণ হয়ে উঠতে পারে এসব জায়গা। তবে অত দূর যাওয়ার দরকার নেই, ড্রেসিংরুম থেকে মাঠে যাওয়ার পথের যা অবস্থা, ব্যাট-ট্যাট নিয়ে ওখানেই চিৎপটাং হয়ে যাওয়া অস্বাভাবিক নয় কারও জন্য।

শ্রীলঙ্কা থেকে আনা প্রধান কিউরেটর গামিনি ডি সিলভা এবং জহুর আহমেদ চৌধুরী স্টেডিয়ামের কিউরেটর জাহিদ রেজা অবশ্য সীমিত সাধ্যের মধ্যেও কম চেষ্টা করলেন না। যেসব জায়গা বেশি কর্দমাক্ত, মাঠকর্মীরা লম্বা রড দিয়ে খুঁচিয়ে খুঁচিয়ে ‘আকুপাংচার’র চিকিৎসার মতো কী একটা করল। জানা গেল এটা নাকি মাঠকে অক্সিজেন খাওয়ানোর চেষ্টা! রডের খোঁচায় হওয়া গর্তের ভেতর দিয়ে মাঠের ভেতরে বাতাস ঢুকবে। সেই বাতাস ভেতর থেকে শুকিয়ে আনবে মাঠ...।
মাঠ-ই তো, নাকি আইসিউতে রাখা কোনো রোগী! কিন্তু আধুনিক চিকিৎসাব্যবস্থা না থাকলে এক ‘আকুপাংচার’ আর কতটা সচল রাখবে আইসিইউ? সারা দিন কাঠ ফাটানো রোদ থাকার পরও তাই মাঠকর্মীদের মধ্যে শঙ্কা—রাতে যদি আবার বৃষ্টি আসে! শঙ্কা সত্যি হয়ে গেছে সন্ধ্যা নামতেই। প্রায় ৩০ মিনিটের মতো ঝুমবৃষ্টিতে ভিজেছে কাভারে ঢাকা মাঠ।
এই বৃষ্টির পর আজ সকালে সময়মতো খেলা শুরুর সম্ভাবনা নেই বললেই চলে। যদিও দ্বিতীয় দিনের খেলা বাতিলের সময় ম্যাচ কর্মকর্তারা জানিয়েছিলেন, মাঠ ঠিক থাকলে টেস্টের বাকি তিন দিনই সাড়ে ৯টার পরিবর্তে খেলা শুরু হবে সকাল ৯টায়, খেলা হবে ৯৮ ওভার করে।

But seriously get people to work over night. Turn on the lights and get busy... get the ground dry by 8 AM!

Knowing BCB it's most likely their chopper will break down, and they won't be able to move it for weeks. That's even more embarrassing "game called of dew to chopper outfield." I can already see funny things being reported by CI about this.. (fairly so)
