This is the thread for the obhaga shontan of BD cricket, whose taken in the team only to warm the bench and is usually played in dead rubbers. But, does anyone know how much of a lucky charm this guy is? Starting from the first ODI win against a strong Zim, historic Cardiff ODI, first ODI of NZ Banglawash, bowling out Zim for 44 to this thrashing of WI and many other matches he has been a part of the victorious team. And this is the guy who always gets ignored, so spare a thought or two for him.

চট্টগ্রাম: ‘গেলাম, খেললাম এবং জিতে নিলাম’। কথাগুলে সত্যিই তো। বাংলাদেশ দল ওয়ানডে সিরিজের শেষ ম্যাচটি তো বলে কয়েই জিতেছে। তাহলে তো কোন ভুল বলেননি সাকিব আল হাসান।

বাংলাদেশ দলের অপরিহার্য এই ক্রিকেটার কখনো ব্যাটে, কখনো বলের পারফরর্মার। কোন কোন ম্যাচে উভয় বিভাগে। এই অলরাউন্ডারকে জাতীয় দলে নির্ভরতার প্রতীক হিসেবে দেখা হয়। তিনিও দলের জন্য সেরা খেলাটা নিংড়ে দেওয়ার চেষ্টা করেন। খেলার আগের দিন বলছিলেন,“আমি আগের চেয়ে অনেক বেশি নির্ভার। নিজের খেলা নিয়ে ভাবতে পারি। আমাদের লক্ষ্য একটাই, যে করেই হোক জিততে হবে।”

খেলা শেষে নিজের এবং দলের পারফরমেন্স সম্পর্কে সামান্য বললেন,“আমরা তো শুরুতে জিতে গিয়েছি। উইটেক খুব ভালো ছিলো বল টার্ন করছিলো। আমাদের লক্ষ্য ছিলো যত কম রানে তাদেরকে অল-আউট করে দেওয়া যায়। ৫৮ রানের নিচে হলে ভালো হতো। যদিও হয়নি। তবে ৬১ রানে বেঁধে ফেলাটাও মন্দ না।”

আগেই সিরিজ হেরে যাওয়ায় শেষ ম্যাচ নিয়ে খুব বেশি চিন্তা ছিলো না বাংলাদেশের। ফলে মূল একাদশে চারটি পরিবর্তন করে শেষ ম্যাচ খেলতে নামে। মোহাম্মদ আশরাফুলের জায়গায় শাহরিয়ার নাফিস, অলক কাপালিকে বিশ্রাম দিয়ে শুভাগত হোম চৌধুরীকে, বাঁহাতি স্পিনার আব্দুর রাজ্জাককের পরিবর্তে আরেক বাঁহাতি স্পিনার সোহরাওয়ার্দী শুভ এবং রুবেল হোসেনের জায়গায় পেসার নাজমুল হোসেনকে খেলার সুযোগ করে দেওয়া হয়।

শফিউলের সঙ্গে বোলিংয়ে ওপেন করেন নাজমুল হোসেন। যে ম্যাচে তিনি খেলার সুযোগ পেলেন ওই ম্যাচ জিতেছে বাংলাদেশ। জাতীয় দলের এই পেসার প্র্যাকটিস ম্যাচের খেলোয়াড় হিসেবে বেশি পরিচিত। আন্তর্জাতিক ক্রিকেটে অতিরিক্ত তালিকায় এখন তাকে নিয়মিতই দেখা যায়। মজার বিষয় হলো নাজমুল যতগুলো ম্যাচে বিকল্প হিসেবে খেলেছেন তার বেশিরভাগে জয় আছে। এক অর্থে ভাগ্যবান ক্রিকেটর নাজমুল। তিনি নিজেও ভাগ্যবান দাবি করছিলেন। “আমি সত্যিই ভাগ্যবান। যে ম্যাচে আমাকে নামায় সেই ম্যাচই জিতি।”

সাকিবের দৃষ্টিতেও ভাগ্যবান ক্রিকেটার নাজমুল হোসেন। “নাজমুল ভাই সব সময় জেতা দলে থাকেন। অবাক লাগে। উনি তো মহা ভাগ্যবান।”

নাজমুল হোসেন পাঁচ ওভারে ১৬ রান দিয়ে একটি উইকেট নিয়েছেন। ২০০৯ সালে এই চট্টগ্রামে যে ম্যাচে জিম্বাবুয়েকে ৪৪ রানে অল-আউট করেছিলো বাংলাদেশ ওই ম্যাচেও নাজমুল খেলেছেন এবং দুটি উইকেটও আছে তার। ছয় ওভারে দুটি মেডেনসহ ১০ রান দিয়ে প্রতিপক্ষের ইনিংসে ধ্বস নামাতে গুরুত্বপূর্ণ অবদান রাখেন ডানহাতি এই পেস বোলার।

৪৪ রানের ম্যাচে সাকিবের বোলিং পারফরমেন্স ছিলো সবচেয়ে ভালো। ৬.৫ ওভার বল করে একটি মেডনসহ আট রানে তিন উইকেট নিয়েছিলেন। মঙ্গলবার ওয়েস্ট ইন্ডিজের বিপক্ষে তার বোলিং পারফরমেন্স ছিলো ৫-০-১৬-৪। ওয়ানডে ক্রিকেটে ১১৮ ইনিংসে এটাই সাকিবের সেরা বোলিং। আগের সেরা বোলিং ছিলো নিউজিল্যান্ডের বিপক্ষে ২০১০ সালে ডানেডিনে, ১০ ওভারে ৩৩ রান দিয়ে চার উইকেট পেয়েছিলেন।

তামিম ইকবাল অপরাজিত থাকলেন এই প্রথম। আগে ১০৫ ইনিংস খেলে সবগুলোতে আউট হয়ে গেছেন। মঙ্গলবার প্রতিজ্ঞা করেছিলেন শেষপর্যন্ত খেলে আসবেন। বলেন,“আমি ব্যাটিংয়ে যাওয়ার আগে চিন্তা করছিলাম কোন দিন তো অপরাজিত থাকতে পারিনি। আজ থাকতে চেষ্টা করবো। যদিও উইকেটে টিকে থাকা খুব কঠিন ছিলো। বিশেষ করে স্পিন বল খেলা যাচ্ছিলো না। ৩৬ রান করতে ৬২ বল খেলতে হয়েছে। আমার ক্ষেত্রে সাধারণত এটা যায় না। তবে এই খেলাটা আমাকে আত্মবিশ্বাস ফিরে পেতে সাহায্য করবে। চেষ্টা করবো টেস্টে ভালো খেলতে।”

এক ওভারে দুই উইকেট। পরে আর বল করার সুযোগ পাননি। তবুও নাসির হোসেন নায়কের আসনে। নিজের পারফরমেন্স সম্পর্কে নসিরের মূল্যায়ন হলো,“খেলা হয়েছে ২২ ওভার। আমি এক ওভার বল করার সুযোগ পেয়ে কাজে লাগিয়েছি। উইকেট ভালো থাকায় এটা সম্ভব হয়েছে।”

অধিনায়ক মুশফিকুর ১৫ বল খেলে ১১ রান করেছেন। তার অবদান আসলে নেতৃত্বে। টসে জিতে ব্যাটিং বেছে নেন উইকেটের সুবিধা কাজে লাগানোর জন্য। বোলিংয়ে পরিবর্তন করে দারুণ সফল হয়েছেন। “১৭ ঘন্টার মতো উইকেট ঢাকা ছিলো। কিছু না কিছু ময়েশ্চার থাকবে জানতাম। সেজন্য আগে বোলিং নেই। উইকেট থেকে ভালো সুবিধা পেয়েছি। আমাদের বোলাররাও ভালো বোলিং করেছে। টেস্টের আগে জয়টা আমাদের খুব দরকার ছিলো।”

He should be a regular fixture in all our odi's...

he bowled line and length, wicket to wicket...whenever he played for BD, he has done the job, but still he doesnt get the chance to play every game...which is pathetic....

I would like to see Nazmul regularly in the playing XI. Donno why he gets benched. He is a fabulous bowler & he is often Highly rated by Ian Pont.

What the hell does Nazmul have to do to get into the Team? It's a disgrace that Abul Hasan gets called ahead of him. He's underrated and has been mistreated for quite some time now. Sigh.

Seems like Pace is everything to our selectors. It doesn't matter if a bowler bowls half trackers, no balls, leg stump line etc etc... as long as he has pace all is forgiven including pathetic fielding.

It seems there is no value for line and length and the amount of control that Nazmul bring to the table. He might not be as good as Kulesekara or Vaas or Pollock or Mullaly but he is a similar sort of bowler who depends on control and swing rather than pace. He is a bowler who can get you 10-12 tight overs while the spinners look for wickets from the other end. He can also get you the odd wicket with the new ball. For Abul to get picked over him was shocking

It test cricket we need wicket takers, variety of bowling, rather than line and length. If we have to take a slowish line and length pacer, I would rather prefer Razzak/Enamul instead of a pacer. Sometime pace alone can become a necessity to break the rhythm of the batsmen due to too many spin bowlers, so having genuine pace in the line up is important. If pacers are in effective, we have a good spin attack to take over. Sincerely, I don't see any place for Nazmul in the test line up. He can be considered for ODIs.
