Default Masterly Batting: Ashraful makes list of 100 Best test knocks (ahead of Tendulkar)

http://www.espncricinfo.com/magazine...ry/689777.html

Quote:
It is the relative dearth of Asian representatives that will cause most debate: seven Indian entries, five Pakistani and three Sri Lankan, plus Mohammad Ashraful. Virender Sehwag's 293 in Mumbai is the highest ranked, at No. 15, while Ashraful comes well ahead of Sachin Tendulkar, whose single worthy effort - 155 not out against Australia in Chennai - is deemed "great" enough to creep in at No. 100.
There was a debate some time ago on Ash's contribution to Bangladesh in our Test infancy. An average of 24 is irrefutable evidence of his lack of ability...but that isn't the question. "Did he contribute?" is the question at hand. That he was our 2nd best player after Bashar, is obvious.

Masterly Batting was an attemped objective ranking of the 100 best Test innings ever played.

Patrick Ferraday and David Wilson aren't Ash fanboys, so they'd have no reason to slip him on the list.

Certainly, this is something noteworthy.

Waiting for Donal C reaction, lol!

Actually didnt have to google. The bowling version of this came out recently and the book was profiled on cricinfo, so they linked their profile to the batting article from 3 years ago.

Ashraful is part of a very exclusive club of mine, one with only two other members, himself, Mohammed Shahzad and Ahmed Shehzad i.e 3 players who could 5,000 runs in a series and I'll never ever rate them as anything above mediocre, hack, and mediocre respectively.

You just dont like the name Ahmed you (Mohammed is form of ahmed). You put the hex on Taskin too.

Ash was a hack, but a unique type. He could take the game away from you and look like Bradman when he did it. M Shahzad could score 5000 in a series, but only against Ireland or Zim and even then 2500 of those runs he would have no clue where he placed the ball. Top edge, outside edge, leading edge.
