Default BanglaCricket XI - Wicket Keeper

Who do you think should be the wicket keeper for Bangladesh?

From the BanglaCricket XI there are many capable wicket keepers but which one do you think should keep for the long term?

Discuss.

I think Mushy should give up the gloves and focus on his batting and captaincy. His keeping has never been that great and his talent lies in his batting. I think that Anamul should keep for T20s and ODIs. For Tests, however, we should have Dhiman keep. His batting in FC matches is pretty good and plus he's our best WK with the gloves.

i think in tests mushy should certainly give up the gloves, he has bad moments and spectacular moments i haven't seen enough of anamul or jahurul as keepers to know who's better and whether. but one thing i want to taken into consideration with anamul is that he's young and maybe it's best he focus on just batting.....i think it's likely that in test matches anamul will be either an opener or the #3 long term which means he shouldn't be keeping in that format, in one-dayers and t20s maybe he could but i don't want to much pressure on him to begin with. i've heard anamul is a decent keeper though, better than jahurul from what i've heard, so with that then it would probably be between mushy and anamul for the keeping.

If we are giving Mushy a rest then we should choose the one with better height ... Because we know in many occasions Mushy couldn't take some simple catches as he couldn't just reach it... Not that it's his fault... But like fast bowlers height should be a criterion in selecting wk as well....

he could be a fielder at cover. not slip position since you will need someone who is tall and athletic like Junaid Siddique who happens to be a good slip catcher, MashAllah. Another alternative for him is fielding at the ropes where height may not really be huge factor, but he has to run hard...i don't know if he is ready to take on such challenge.

The reality is that Mushfiqur Rahim will not likely give up the gloves so easily right now until Anamul/Dhiman/ Jahurul ESTABLISH themselves in the team a PERMANENT spot! none of them have really cemented a spot yet. we just have to be a little more patient as fans...Mushfiqur does have one advantage is that due to his height he is very close to the stumps and his reaction time improves against spinners(stumping) but this height is also a huge disadvantage over pacers.

even though, MashAllah, Rahim has improved his keeping a lot without a doubt since early days; However, he is by no means world class simply due to the limitation on his lateral movements restricted by his height factor.

Based on what i have seem little of Dhiman, he is a decent keeper, but the reality is that Bangladesh cannot really afford to give up one Batsmen position in our still fragile batting lineup for a specialist keeper only. I say we stick with Mushfiqur until at least Demcember/T20 world cup...even then we are not really sure if Anamul will make it because no one really knows( a poor run of form may turn him into another Shuvagoto Hom(a good player but poor run of form keeps him out of the national team)) so at least for the time being Mushfiqur Stays as keeper!

In modern one day cricket, any successful cricket team will rely on their keeper to have a prominent role as a batsmen: Successful examples: MS Dhoni, Sangakkara....

Its hard to say this but if Mushy doesnt keep then his batting is good enough to have a permanent place in the side. If you look at the averages and consistancy levels of our senior players who have played over 100 matches, Mushy is the only one with dissapointing stats. He would only take up a spot in the lineup while someone with great potential would have to sit out

Mushy's overall stats doesn't do any justice to his capability as he was not good at all at the beginning of his career.. In fact he started to be more reliable since last year !! Now he has a vast experience and is more familiar with different situation which is invaluable for us ... You don't want your team to be full of inexperienced new people then BD will never grow from the toddler phase and will stumble every now and then.. We need a team with a good mix of experience and freshness !!! I think now with the experienced Tamim, Shakib, Mushy. Mash. Razzak and the new guys like Nasir, sunny, Anamul, Mominul, Ziaur we are finally going to get a well balanced team...

Also not to forget Mushy is doing a decent job as a captain !!!

You're right, i just looked at his test record in the last year and its pretty good. But in ODI its been terrible, apart from that 1 hundred he got last year against ZIM and a few 50s against Aus. His last 10 innings in ODIs read 10,1,46,3,0,1,11,10,69,21. His recent form isnt good, is that fair? Unlike tamim and shakib who have had years where they have done outstanding, Mushfiq hasn't any year where he has done great. His few 50s have been seperated by many matches where he gets nothing. Im just saying that he's fine as keeper/batsman in the side, but not purely as a batsmen. In order to develop bangladesh cricket we need players to be averaging in the 30s in ODIs, not below 25. 100 matches is enough to figure out someones ability. Sad but true.

I voted for Rahim but I would consider him giving up the gloves and being a batting specialist. It really depends on how some of these other guys keep. I don't really know enough about Anamul Haq or Dhiman Ghosh but they both seem like they'd be capable to bat at number 7 (I don't really rate Jahurul). That would free up Rahim to take the important number 3 or 4 spot. This would mirror what Kumar Sangakkara, Brendon McCullum and Brendan Taylor have all done, given that they were a more vital player as batsman than keeper in their respective teams.

Having said that his keeping when the spinners are operating has improved leaps and bounds. He took some great catches off the spinners' bowling in the recent Asia Cup that he used to miss almost always.

The clear winner looks to be Mushfiqur. The only reason i would pick Mushfiqur is because he is the captain of the team. The captain (along with the bowler) decides the fielding placements and if you are in the view of the wicket keeper you can see all the positions on the field really well because you are getting a batsmen view of the field.

The makes Mushfiq's job as captaincy a bit easier.
