Rajshashi has a weaker team compared to sylhet. Infact sylhet on paper looked to be a team that would be in the top 3.

Sylhet is like Kolkata Knight Riders of IPL... spent money, had the named players but couldn't bring results. SR should do what KKR is doing,,, change the black color jersey to Purple, change the logo and start with a prayer...

I think they have been pretty unlucky not to win that match against Khulna,, they were really close but couldn't close the deal. In rest of the matches, they were outplayed. Their local players have been miserable too. However, I really hope that they do win a match because it will lift their morals a little bit.

Sorry Dhakablues bhai I cant agree with you here. They were the most stingiest in the players auction. Where KKR did spent a lot at first IPL.

This is from the auction day without the icon players price.

Highest was:

Gladitors $1.77 million (Even without Afridi its still more than 1 million plus they replaced him with Azhar who was on 100K base price).

And lowest was:
Sylhet Royals $0.86 million

Most smartest buy, surprising everyone is Rajshahi they only spent $0.96 million and now tops the table.
My hats off to them.

I think Sylhet assumed that Stuart Law, Swift combination can turn Kayes, Naeem, Kapali with Akmal, Tanveer into a winning team. They did underestimate the need for strong domestic players pool. None of their allrounders were in form in recent years. It didnt seem like they knew what their plan was for team combinations ( like Barisal). However, not a single player played an innings to remember like Gayle, Shehzad, Jamshid, Chanderpaul or even a Riad/Junaid/Shakib. The nature of T20 is that one or two strong innings can change the game... Sylhet had none that comes to mind.

The reason KKR comes to mind is due to their last position in the table, black jersey, famed coaches, known owners, regional potential etc. But the similarity ends right there, I suppose.

I think the biggest reason for their poor showing has been the lack of production out of their SLA's. This league has been dominated by the SLA's. For example, Khulna has Razzak and Shakib who are doing well. Then Dhaka has the spin duo of Elias and Mosharraf. Chittagong has the spin duo of Enamul and Arafat. Rajshahi has Saqlain. And who does Sylhet have? Only Samad whose been poor this BPL. Sylhet should have gone with a good SLA or 2. Instead they went with 2 specialist leggies in Noor and Hogg and the former has played only 1 match so far. You want to win matches in BPL you have a good SLA or 2. Plain and simple.

A very good point !!! Specially in chittagong which is known as spinner's paradise !!! They could've bagged any one of the good SLA's to be little competitive in the tournament !!

ha ha ha.. oops sorry.. Didn't mean that . Of course they can be more than competitive . I was basically highlighting on the lack of effective SLAs in their team.

Newagebd with Law.

Quote:
QHow was your experience in the Bangladesh Premier League with the Sylhet Royals?

Law: Personally, fairing not too well in the competition is frustrating and disappointing. But in the overall scene things are going well with every teams being competitive. It’s a great spectacle for the players to go and play in and watch. Personally my experience is not that brilliant, but in the overall scheme it has been pretty successful.

Q: Wasn’t it been an embarrassment with the Royals team as they are yet to register a win?

Law: We had our hopes but we haven’t been playing for one reason or other, but we still have four games to play. Four games to serve us some pride. It hasn’t gone our way, but there was nothing like we were not trying very hard or things of that sort. It has just been the circumstances. Lot of teams in the world can struggle in this format. Once you get on the roll it seems difficult to lose.

Q: Would you elaborate about those circumstances which you think was the reason behind Royals downfall. Are you happy with the players of your team at the auction?

Law: For the first one I don’t want to make any comments and on the second you better ask the franchise.

Q: How do you rate the performance of local players in BPL?

Law: The qualities of local players are standing up. Few guys like Mushfiq, Mahmudullah and Junaed Siddique won games for their teams and that’s what you expect. In these competitions including the IPL, teams that have got good local players goes very far. In BPL Gayle made a hundred but still lost the game. It’s not necessary how great your overseas players are but your local players have to stand up and put in some good performances. Some of the national boys are doing it.

Q: Apart from national players any other players who have got your notice?

Law: It’s very interesting to see players that we thought to get into the national set up. They haven’t set the world on fire, but they have made decent contribution. Mominul Haque, he is the one we like to include in the national setup pretty soon. Jahirul [Islam] is on the fringe of the national team for a while. He has done some reasonable performance on the BPL. On the fast bowling, all-rounder Farhad Reza was quite impressive. These are the sort of performances we would like to see.

Q: What about Tamim Iqbal? With the Asia Cup round the corner he is not doing well. Is this concerning you?

Law: I think he has been injured as far as I know. He has a groin problem. He has played only two games and lots of players need a couple of games on a row to get some momentum. He is very much part of the international scene and if he can go and get some runs that would be great not only for him but for Bangladesh cricket as well.

I just wonder where are they planning to play Mominul? only slot is open atm is number 3. Is he ready for that yet? i doubt...

No one is saying Training bunch of mercenaries and make them work as a team would be easy. Not winning a single game falls on the shoulder of the coaching staff and management no matter how you look at it. The team first takes on the coaches personality and then the captain's. You can't win hearts by saying no comments.] and on the second you better ask the franchise.

Knowing their strenghts and weakness is the coaches job. Trego was slow while batting. The coaches should have done something after 1 or 2 games and drop him down the order. When nothing is working they had to make sure to find out what they had at their disposal.] In BPL Gayle made a hundred but still lost the game. [Bad example. Gayle/barishal lost that game because Dhaka's foreign players stepped up.] It’s not necessary how great your overseas players are but your local players have to stand up and put in some good performances. Some of the national boys are doing it.
