CK franchise owners should sue BPL. This is not a Mamarbarir Shaatchara league. There's are some hard and fast rules written in black and white.

Black and white er majhe abar kuasha bhab. Kothin law, reading it two ways will read two outcomes. What BPL did first was tie break in a 3 way, now they broke tie 3 way, then extracted the winner, and then tie broke two way with remainder. (Zunaid Bhai, this is like your division by zero!).

So, that is why I said need Arbitrator of Sports from Switzerland.

law:

1st interpretation:
Quote:
According to the by-laws, among the tied teams Barisal, Chittagong and Dhaka, Barisal were in the worst position as regards head-to-head calculations, and so have been eliminated from the semi-finals.
2nd interpretation:
Quote:
2.Three teams - Dhaka Gladiators, Barisal Burners and Chittagong Kings are on equal (10) points. Dhaka Gladiators have most wins from meetings with Barisal Burners and Chittagong Kings and therefore qualify as the 3rd semifinalist.
3. With Barisal Burners and Chittagong Kings both having one win against each other the 4th qualifier had to be decided on the basis of superior net run rate. Barisal edged ahead of Chittagong on net run rate to become the 4th semifinalist.
If one were to use Occam's razor:
Quote:
Occam's razor, also known as Ockham's razor, and sometimes expressed in Latin as lex parsimoniae (the law of parsimony, economy or succinctness), is a principle that generally recommends that, from among competing hypotheses, selecting the one that makes the fewest new assumptions usually provides the correct one, and that the simplest explanation will be the most plausible until evidence is presented to prove it false.
Then 1st interpretation will be the truth.

High courtey pathaitey hobey. And like the great Bush-Gore tie break, it may harm the cricket. So, I wouldn't dig any more.
It already has harmed the cricket, and for the sake of cricket - let it rest. Solomon type argument dorkar - you know when he said cut the child in half.

ZSayeed - it's your assumption that the 1st interpretation follows logically form parsing the paragraph.

A proper parsing leaves no ambiguity. The ranking amongst the tied teams is predicated by the "winner of the most number of matches amongst themselves". Here the anaphora "themselves" clearly refer to the most immediate applicable noun phrase "these equal teams" which in term is defined a priori as "3 or more teams with equal points".

QED.

You made me look up anaphora.
Yes, I see. Tie broken - take DG out of tie.
C and B still equal in HH, then resort to NRR. But they are not equal in HH as per table, unless table is wrong at http://digicricket.marssil.com/match...op=5&match=192.

Then why the 1st announcement with BB out? the first glimpse makes the case that tie break amogst all three, in which case the HH of 321 still holds,

If you break the 3 way at the same time, BB is out. If you break the tie in steps, then CK out.
The law states that after placing the team that is highest, after that if there are teams still equal, (note the bold part), then use NRR. BB and CK are NOT equal in HH, CK > BB as per table attached. Then BB is out, because you cannot continue to the next statement, they are not equal in HH.

Yeah, you are right. It was not a matter of justice, but just academic!

I hope the horse stays out though.

Good analysis ZSayeed.
The law states:
"When three (3) or more teams finish with equal points and equal wins in the league, then the team(s) which was (were) the winner of the most number of matches played between those equal teams in the league will be placed in higher position(s). If after applying this criterion there are any teams which are still equal, then such equal teams shall be ranked according to their net run rate in the league."

Note the bolded parts. As far as i am concerned, it definitely talks about a multiway tie break using the criterion H2H between all the parties involved. If that criterion solves the problem and ranks the teams accordingly, then no need to go to the second criterion which is the NRR. From the stated law, I don't know how one can take one party out using the 1st criterion and apply the 2nd criterion on the rest of the parties when the 1st criterion clearly solves the problem. The law says the winner of the most number of matches played between those equal teams in the league will be placed in higher positions. Note, the use of the word positions, instead of position.

I have nothing against BB and I wish all the best to them and their supporters, but the way the by-laws are written, CK should've gone through. Ck should do a press conference and threaten to pull out and ask for refund of all the investment including the money for the time they spent and the stress they had gone through. A lawsuit should be the way forward. They shouldn't let Lipu & Co. get away with it.
