From the win against ZIM a very clear idea surfaces...
and that is: THE TEAM WHICH PLAYS LIKE ‘A TEAM’ WINS AT THE END OF THE DAY!!

-if Habibul & Rajin had not fought back after the initial shock... the later guys would have no base to fly off from!
-if Ashraful had not charged on like that... the initial recovery would have no meaning!!
-if Pilot & Sujon had not kept the pace of runs upto the mark... we would still not have such a solid total!
-later on, after ZIM’s confident start, if Rafiq & Mushfiq had not brought BD back in the game with tightened overs getting ZIM under pressure... they wouldn’t have lost vital wickets so fast !!
-if Hannan & others had not sparked with determined fielding, where would we get the ferocious spirit to beat ZIM out?!!
-even Tareq Aziz’s last over was a stylish way to chop down the opponent’s innings !!!

so many things happened and the presence of the whole BD team could be felt all over and around ZIM!!
Its true that individual performance sometimes takes a team to victory... but TEAMWORK is the dangerous magic that really cuts through the heart of even the strongest opponents..!!!!!

Lets hope out team starts realizing and mastering on this MAGIC !!

Whatmore has been talking about this plan for a while. I believe we are slowly getting a hang of it. What is the plan?

Well, whatmore has repeatedly said that we should try and score steadily until the 40th over so and try and keep 6/7 wickets in hand. And then in the last 10 overs make a real meal of it. This plan has been tried in Pakistan, and almost worked. I guess the hardest part of the plan for Bangladeshi players is to score steadily but still keep wickets in hand in the first 40 overs. We actually managed to do that somewhat yesterday. However it was not perfect! 238/7 is a good score but 7/10 times it will not be enough. But I believe we will get better now that the players have seen that this plan works and works well. The scoring steadily part is bound to improve as we gradually learn how to effectively take the singles.

Teamwork is of course essential for this plan just as crikethorizon said.

The fact that Bangladesh won despite

1. The openning pair failing once again
2. four run outs
3. not having our top pace bowler
4. Having a mid-innings collapse
4. Dropping catches and
5. despite having Sujon in the team

Suggests that...... we can beat many a team if more things click together.

If he can perform the way he did in the last match I have no problem. Believe me I was once a great admirer of his fighting qualities. Who would not love a fifth bowler capable of bowling at the death and scoring quickfire 20s!

Is it just my faulty memory or is it that 10 - 15 years ago a score in the mid 200s was considered pretty good (and winnable)? Has bowling in all teams degraded that much or have the batsmen become so much better?

I noticed it especially in the latest VB series, the teams were making high 200s and in most cases it was either very close or wasn't enough..

Its not your faulty memory fab, scores have been getting inflated. And also, the importance of bolwers has greatly diminshed in recent years.

Prior to the 96 world cup, a score of 250 was considered very respectable and definitely defendable.

Since that time, the number of thrilling finishes also seems to have dried up.

I guess it's all about first 15 overs rule and most of the teams now-a-days try to take a heavy advantage of it which ultimately results high scoring games in LOI
