Default BanglaCricket XI - No. 6 & 7 Batsmen

Mother Thread: http://www.banglacricket.com/alochon...76#post1518076

Which 2 batsmen do you think should bat at no. 6 & 7 for Bangladesh in ODI's?

Please vote twice only. If you vote once or more than 2 times then your vote will not be counted.

The number 6 is often a stroke-making player who can take an innings away from a fielding side. However, Numbers 6 and below must be able to play with tail-enders. They must be able to keep the strike as the innings comes towards its end. So the no.6 batsmen needs in some ways to be the most thoughtful batsman of the side.

In recent years the no. 7 position has been filled with fluent stroke-making players and people who can hit and stick around during the death overs. It doesn't matter what style Number 7 plays as long as they are capable of finishing the game. If the player being considered for 7 averages in the twenties with no hundreds - he might not be right for the job. As with No.6, he must be able to shepherd the tail effectively.

Which 2 batsmen should play in these pivotal roles for Bangladesh?

Discuss.

mushy for the #6 spot without a doubt imo. #7 spot most likely goes to shabbir....zia would be a good pick but he's a pacer and i don't think we need another (same with babu). naeem seems to have lost his hitting ability so until he can find that again then he's a no for the #7 spot. so it's between sabbir and noor, sabbir the better batsman, noor the better bowler, i'm not sure noor is a good enough batsman for the spot, although not sure sabbir is a good enough bowler either. but i'd give sabbir the edge for now.

I would've chosen Sabbir, but he needs to prove more IMO!

Mushy and Mahmudulla are the best option right now. Both are good finishers. We all know what lil Mushy is capable of. He just needs some time to get settle. And Mahmudulla will hold the innings at the other end, like he did Vs Sri Lanka in Asia Cup.

neither mushy or riyad are suited to the #7 role, though mushy would do it better than riyad imo. but mushy is to good to be left out of the team plus i think he's BD's best #6 batsman atm. riyad really isn 't suited to the #7 spot, he just can't accelerate when it's needed. if not sabbir then shuvagata.

Well realistically it'll be a little while before Shabbir is included in to the national team since he wasn't even included in to the 27 member T20 squad. No question our #6 should be Mushy. I don't see anyone replacing him there for any format. The number 7 spot on the other hand is a bit tough to decide. Mahmudullah is not a #7 so I believe others should be considered. For me, it should be either Mominul or Shuvagata batting at #7.

Well #7 is a very vital position for Bangladesh team.Best finisher of the team should bat at #7.Mominulcan be a candidate but best finisher and most suitable person here is Nasir. But he is already grabbed. So to me we need to rethink about the team combination. To me best ever team combination can be:
1.Tamim
2.Anamul
3.Jahirul
4.Riyad
5.Shakib
6.Mushy
7.Nasir
Thats it.

i think shuvagata is a better option than momniul at this point because he's older more experienced, had some experience with the national team already, bowls a little bit and really we need someone who can bowl a little bit at the #7 spot which i don't think mominul does.....also with mominul being so young i'd prefer his start in the national team to actually be where he should be batting so he doesn't have any extra pressure and adjusting to do. he's best in the middle order from 4-6 and putting him in that #7 role means he has to do extra adjusting for his role in the national team, he's young and inexperienced so if we can avoid it i think it's best to avoid any extra changes/adjustments to his game for a role in the national team.

so that's why i'm tossing up between sabbir or shuvagata rather than mominul. although ziaur and babu are tempting choices, but i think we have enough pacers in the team already.

Ya that's true. Mominul's more of a 4-6 batsman. So maybe he's not the best option there. Ziaur's an option but he's an opener so it's best he plays as an opner in the national team as well. Shuvagata seems a lot like Riyad actually. Except I believe Shuvagata can get himself settled quicker and is better at rotating the strike. I like the option of having Babu but I feel he still needs some time before he can play at #7/8. No doubt he should be devloped further with the national/A team. Shabbir is also very impressive. Plus he can bowl leggies. I thought he was a real miss by the selectors and he should've been brought in.

doesn't ziaur bat all over the order? plus started out as a pacer and due to his big hitting he's be utilised higher up the order at times, wasn't he picked as a bowler a few years ago for the national team squad? wonder what his technique is like as to batting high up the order in international cricket....

as far as shuvagata being like riyad, from what i've seen his strike rate begins and ends better than riyads....i'm pretty sure generally he starts his innings with a pretty high strike rate and we want somene who can do that.

when it comes to sabbir, he's got the hitting ability and as you say he bowls leggies so brings in some variation.

all i know is for #7 we need someone who can hit from the start if needed but can also stick around, plus can chip in for a few overs with the ball.

Does Shuvagata have the qualities of a no. 7 batsmen? Will he be able to finish the game for us and also hang in there and rotate the strike during the 30th over?

the positions broken down will mean...
6. Mushfiqur Rahim
7. Shuvagata/Mahmudullah/Sabbir/Nur Hossain/Ziaur Rahman

Ziaur would be on the outer only because we have too many pacers in the team. But he would be a great pickup for the T20 team. Mahmudullah isnt a great finisher so i wouldnt include him. I would only want Mahmudullah to bat at no. 4 or 5.

I guess we have to decide who is more useful between Shuvagata, Sabbir and Nur. Im not quite sure if Shuvagata is a finisher. Mominul isnt a lower order batsmen so i havent included him.

nur is basically a bowler who can bat a bit, his inclusion as the #7 depends on how strong you want the batting/bowling, he strengthens the bowling more than the others but weakens the batting a bit. sabbir and shuvagata both strengthen the batting and weaken the bowling.

from what i've seen of shuvagata he has the shots to hit, he has the ability to hit from the start and he has the ability to score a lot of runs and hang in there if needed (he started his FC career terrificly with some long innings and he's shown he can keep a high strike rate in shorter formats when he's played.

i think shuvagata and sabbir might be pretty similar on the batting front.....who is the better bowler might be the deciding factor on who should be picked here....

I wouldn't consider Nur as a #7 and don't want him to be a bowling allrounder. I want him to continue to practice being a specialist leggie. We don't have many leggies in our circuit so it's important he continues to develop his bowling.

I think out of all the batsmen we are mentioning, Shuvagata is the most complete. It seems he can accelerate when the team needs it but at the same time, can bat sensibly if the team is in trouble. Guys like Babu and Shabbir are still raw batsmen and need a little time before they can come in.

Got to be Rahim and Mahmudullah. Both gaining experience in these positions. Also Rahim is the keeper and captain so has to be picked. Mahmudullah is an underrated bowler and a cool head in a chase. The Sri Lanka game in the Asia cup is just one example of this.

Wow i dont not see this coming. It seems like Mahmudullah is edging out as the no. 7 batsmen for Bangladesh. And its only by a mere two votes. Anyones vote can make a difference now.

Btw for everyones information Sabbir only has 2 votes because Nadim and TigerEz's votes arent counted, they only voted on one person instead of two.

The popular topic is that people want Imrul and Anamul instead of Anamul and Jahurul. I will make a poll to justify Imrul's selection and Jahurul's omission

As Anamul himself wants to bat at #3 , we should consider that too !!

Sorry but you have to know when since it says under the poll when the poll will be closing. Voting on Sabbir wouldnt make a difference anyway because he only has 2 votes.
