ICC news

Bangladesh break into Twenty20 rankings at No.6

Bangladesh's exciting one-run win over Ireland on Friday, which gave them an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match series, also catapulted them to No. 6 in the ICC Twenty20 rankings - this is the first time Bangladesh feature in the rankings. They are now ahead of New Zealand, India and West Indies, while Ireland, who were in ninth position, drop a place to tenth.

ICC Twenty20 rankings
  • 1 England
  • 2 South Africa
  • 3 Sri Lanka
  • 4 Pakistan
  • 5 Australia
  • 6 Bangladesh
  • 7 New Zealand
  • 8 India
  • 9 West Indies
  • 10 Ireland

According to the ICC rules, only teams that have played at least eight Twenty20 internationals in the period starting August 1 2009 to date (the qualifying period changes every August) will get a ranking.
If Bangladesh manage to sweep the Ireland series 3-0 on Saturday, they will jump to No. 4 on the rankings.

If we win today then we'll be on 4th position. And if we win against Scot & Netherlands then we'll reach the 3rd position provided India wins against SL.

I don't think it's a joke. Thing is we haven't played that many T20s against the big names... If we play well in the T20 WC, we will retain our place or else we will fall down... Everything will even out at the end of the WC.

Thing is, we now have a team to beat both Pak and NZ if we play to our potential... Then we might even climb upwards... Why are you so uncomfortable seeing us on top of some other teams...??

Cause I am very aware that in a three/five/seven game series even at home some of those teams would win the series with ease. Especially Pakistan and India.

That is why its a joke, we didnt even played against PAK, IND, NZ, AUS ... just played 3 games against IRL and all of a sudden we ahead of these team! FIFA ranking should get a gold medal because of this T20 joke ranking!! Not bad for a good laugh for us really.

Can't say that with any guarantee...I'm seeing a different BD team after the Asia cup.

We really don't see a long series with these kind of teams, lets see if we have in future"... The story might be different this time..

There shouldnt be any sense of achievement since we have reached fourth position. We need to work on retaining it. Thats the point of the system. One day your ranked 4th and with a couple of losses you might be ranked 8th.
