should also do something similar to india where they have the irani cup, challenger cup etc, to have more games for the players. plus A team tours to places like ireland if they can't do it with test playing nations.

Agree and even they can make it as rigid as going for 3 bowlers out of 4. We need our batters to improve specially against pacers. But at the same time, lets also have some good pitches where those bowlers can get deadly. Ideal practice for our players..

Kew fantasy league er ekta bebostha koren. Let's make the tournament a little more interesting. I would do it, but don't have the time to put together all the spreadsheets.

Teething problems ahead
of new-look NCL
Bangladesh's 2012-13 domestic
season will kick-off with a new-
look National Cricket League, with
the opening match between
defending champions Rajshahi
Division and Dhaka Division starting
October 14 to be played with the
pink-ball and under lights at the
Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in
Mirpur.
But even the novelty of the new
ball or the introduction of two
major steps - franchise system for
the teams and the players' salary
structure - have failed to ensure
anything but the typicalr build-up
to the country's only first-class
competition. Six of the eight
participating teams are only
beginning to train less than two
weeks before such a grueling
competition, while the Bangladesh
Cricket Board is expected to
finance half the number of teams.
Indifference towards the first-class
game has meant that the BCB were
able to woo only four companies to
buy franchises, ESPNcricinfo has
learnt, two of which already own
teams in the Bangladesh Premier
League Twenty20s and the 50-over
competition, the Dhaka Premier
League. It is also not clear which
of the first-class teams will have
franchisees. The other major step -
the salary structure for the 105
first-class cricketers that was
announced in August and set to be
implemented from the new season
- is also designed to inject much
needed motivation for the players
in the longer version. But the long-
running infrastructural deficiencies
in many parts of the country have
stymied most of the cricketers to
stay indoors rather than train in
proper facilities.

need to learn the concept of pre-season training. would think that the franchise owners would have minimum mandatory pre-season training prerequisites for all players and organise some pre-season training for them to ensure that it's done.

It has to start from the top. How can we expect the players to take things seriously, when BCB is yet to finalize anything? As usual, this season will start as a picnic league and end as a picnic league. Only a few players will take it seriously. Rest will see it as, 'I show up I get paid, that's good enough for me'.

this is true, wasn't it only announced not long ago that it would be franchised based? bet they hadn't set up many franchisees before they announced it and didn't announce it early enough to get good franchisees and give them time to even setup facilities and pre-season training.

Sponsors to boost NCL profile
Sports Reporter

The 14th edition of the National Cricket League (NCL), beginning on October 14, which will take place on a franchise-based system, is scheduled to witness a series of sponsorship-related deals for the franchises today.

The country's lone first-class competition, which has been starving for sponsors over the years, might see money finally injected into the competition and Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president AHM Mustafa Kamal on Tuesday stated that a majority of the eight teams in the NCL are set to get sponsors. . . . . . . . . . . http://www.thedailystar.net/newDesig...php?nid=252180

Professionalism starts at the domestic level and this is the area that is still lacking badly in our cricket. If we don't have professionalism in our FC leagues then how do we expect professionalism in our national team?

Also Rajshahi is showing why they have dominated recent NCL competitions. Just look how seriously they are taking the NCL. They've been preparing for months whereas the rest are just starting. Good to see Sylhet also taking the tournament seriously. It's good that their senior players are leading by example. If the other divisions take this tournament more seriously, then we can see better competition.

It doesn't say, which team. Will BCB decide who gets which team??

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has penned a Memorandumof Understanding with Prime Bank Foundation, a subsidiary of Prime Bank, for the upcoming National Cricket League (NationalCricket League). According to the agreement, Prime Bank Foundation has received a franchisee license to operate an NCL team for the next ten years. The Bank will have to paya yearly amount of TK 50 lakh to maintain its franchisee rights.
The MoU confirms Prime Bank's participation in the NCL. It, however, does not state the team that it will be operating. http://www.thedailystar.net/newDesig...php?nid=252340

BCB bosses play with NCL

Two teams could be scrapped, scheduled start unlikely, Tigers’ preparation for West Indies series could suffer, day-night first-class match uncertain

Azad Majumder

The internal feud between the officials made the scheduled starting of forthcoming National Cricket League uncertain, putting many plans of the Bangladesh Cricket Board in jeopardy.
The league is scheduled to start on October 14, but it is now highly unlikely as the BCB is desperate to tag corporate houses with the teams, which created a big difference between the squabbling officials.
Things became complicated as the BCB apparently decided to scrap two teams – Dhaka Metropolis and Rangpur Division – as it could attract only six corporate houses to get involved with the NCL sides.

this should be our FC structure ....

now we have 7 divisional teams plus Dhaka Metro Team. we need to consider adding some more like some biggest districts such as comilla, faridpur, jessore, mymensingh, tangail, noakhali, dinajpur, bagura, kushtia within two years .

if we can build 16 teams than we can have a two tier format.

now infrastructure is a key issue. each team should have a own playing ground and training facilities and academies for u-19 and u-16 age group developments. also each team should have own scouting system to hunt local talents in respective regions.

Sounds good, top team of tier 2 could move up to tier one and bottom team of tier one could drop to tier 2.

Swing is movement in the air. It has nothing to do with grass on the wicket. Swing depends on things like moisture in the air, crosswinds and other weather related factors.

One should hope that a master of copy/paste cricketing expertise with strong opinions on the local scene would know at least that much about the game.

1. They find it difficult to hold this league with 6-8 teams, a NCL with 15/16 teams may suffer time constraints.
2. We already suffer from the absence of Quality players in the domestic league (NCL), And with additional teams, so many crap bowlers and batsmen will make a way into this league, that counting performances here might be very misleading.
3. If the idea is to give chance to more players, we can have a lower level tournament with all 64 district teams at the divisional level, get the best 3/4 district teams from each division to have another competition of 20 district teams at the national level and then the NCL with 8 teams as planned. That will allow these divisional teams also to spot talents.
4. Ensuring quality at NCL should be number one priority, so that you can count their performances here to recruit boys for the national team, just basing on their performances.

Ideally, thats the way to go.
For starters, even with 8 teams, if they play home and away format, that is a minimum of 14 FC games in a year, which is a decent number of game to play. Reserve a Final and you reward the players from the top two teams with an additional FC game.

Add another 2 teams in five years, 10 teams home and away format, 18 games a year sounds decent enough.

As usual mess from the very beginning.

Dhaka, Oct 6 (bdnews24.com) - The 14th edition of the National Cricket League (NCL) has been deferred. The country's lone first-class competition was supposed to start on Oct 14.
BCB tournament committee chairman Gazi Ashraf Hossain told bdnews24.com that a fresh date would be announced when the newly formed governing committee meets on either Oct 9 or 10.
Insiders said the NCL season for 2012-13 could commence on Oct 20 or 21.

http://www.scienceinafrica.co.za/200...ber/bounce.htm

a decent article on cricket pitches....

Quote:
England

On English tracks, the moisture content is higher as the Westerlies bring rains practically throughout the year. The air remains saturated with water vapour and hence exerts more pressure on the cherry. Hence, when Greig tells you from the commentary box at Lords, that the ball would start swinging after the 15th over, he simply means that by that time, the moisture below the soil would have evaporated. However, the bounce component would be nullified as long as the track is wet and all the moisture has not evaporated. Once all the moisture goes off, bowlers would also be able to get a slightly greater bounce. This however, will also depend on how hot or cold the weather is. In England, which is in the north temperate zone, it seldom gets hotter than 25°C. Hence, the pitches there will predominantly assist swing bowling.

Walton, a sister concern of RB Group, signed an agreement with the Bangladesh Cricket Board on Sunday to become the franchise owner of Dhaka division in the forthcoming National Cricket League. They'll give 50 lac tk per year...Walton was the second company to enter the NCL after Prime Bank was the first to sign the franchise agreement with theBCB. The remaining four franchises are in talks with the Board and will be announced shortly. http://www.newagebd.com/detail.php?d...0-08&nid=26235

BD really needs more than one FC torunament, problem is the tournaments get put on hold so often that it would be tough to fit in another tournament. i'm all about getting this franchise thing right but they should have started the ground work a lot earlier than they did so it could be ready by the tournament start date. this deferring business has to stop, happens every year and it just disrupts scheduling.
