There is a good possibility of going into the test with 4 decent all rounders (Shakib, Naeem, Mahmud and Shohag)...... I dont think too many teams can claim that

The national selectors broke from recent convention by picking a specialist off-spinner, Shohag Gazi, after a long time in the 14-member squad for the first Test against the West Indies. The squad, announced by chief selector Akram Khan yesterday, also had space for another newcomer in pace bowler Abul Hasan, and left-handed batsman Junaed Siddiqui who last played a Test in June 2010 against England.

The 21-year old off-spinner from Patuakhali hogged all the spotlight when Akram announced the squad in an official press conference at Mirpur yesterday. In another welcome break from tradition, it was the first time that his panel announced the team -- previously the team had to be sent for approval to the board, which then made the announcement.

There have long been calls for a genuine off-spinner in the team to balance the presence of the left-arm spinners. The last time a specialist off-spinner played a Test for the Tigers was in 2002 when Fahim Muntasir played against Sri Lanka in Colombo. . . .http://www.thedailystar.net/newDesig...php?nid=256807

I cannot say that Root, Cowan and Lyon have remotely the same experience!

I also used career stats and not partial stats.

But anyhow, let's hope Tamim and Shakib.. who can get into the England or Australian sides right now according to a few ... can dominate the West Indies and take the Bangladesh team to a well-deserved series Test win 2-0.

Let's come back to this after and see.
I never said Tamim and Shakib are 'legends'. I even said Tamim isn't considered World Class.

YOU mentioned that England play more games against top 4 teams than Bangladesh. So I decided to base my stats on that. As India are currently ranked 5th and you generally regard them as your 'top 4' nation, I extended it to top 5, including Pakistan.

You also mentioned Ashwin has 'far superior stats' against top 4 teams. But he averages 62 with the ball compared to Shakib's 35.

I said that Tamim could get into the England and Australia teams RIGHT NOW, when you compare him with other openers, you have to compare him to the ones England and Australia have right now. England's new opener position will go to either Root or Compton, while Cowan has been Australia's opener for a while. There's no point comparing Tamim to Atherton, Gooch or Slater as they don't play right now.

In the eyes of the Australian selectors and team management, Cowan is their best opener alongside Warner. If you had to choose between Tamim and Cowan, I'm sure most people would choose Tamim. Root or Compton are yet to debut, so it remains to be seen whether they'll average more than Tamim.

I also said Shakib could get into the South Africa and Australia teams right now. Tahir averages 40 with the ball compared to Shakib's 31. Shakib averages 34 with the bat, whilst Tahir's contributions are virtually negligible. Only a fool would pick Tahir ahead of Shakib.

Lyon has the edge over Shakib with the ball, although that is significantly boosted by his average against lower ranked opposition. As I mentioned before Shakib has a better average (35) against top 5 teams than Lyon (37). Lyon's contributions with the bat are also negligible, so if I was a selector I would pick Shakib over Lyon because of the added value he brings with the bat.

Once again I still stand by my original statements that Tamim could get into the England and Australia teams right now and Shakib could get into the South Africa and Australia teams.

The young spinner, who started his career as a pace bowler but later changed his mind due to a lack of pace especially after a hammering at the hands of Tamim Iqbal during an Under-13 match in Chittagong in 2000, was so excited with the call-up that he could barely express his emotions.
This was the best part on Shohag Gazi...

Anyways whether Narine will eat us alive or not we don't know but Abul and SRK will definitely eat us alive

I think we'll see Tamim open with Nazimuddin and Juaid at 3.

Not sure that the headline-grabbing duo of Abul Hasan and Sohag Ghazi will get a game unless there are injuries.

Hard luck for Enamul Haq junior, he's put in some fine performances over the past few years, but it looks like the selectors are sticking with Elias Sunny because he performed well against the West Indies and reasonably well against Pak last year...

Gazi is definitely playing, I think sunny will also, but if there is any situation to drop one(Which I don't see) then it will definitely be sunny. The reason is in the rationale for their selection. If Rubel isn't playing for any reason, then only Abul Has a chance.

Many of the members suggest Nazimuddin should open with Tamim but I can't agree with them because of his recent performance. He showed poor in his last two matches. It would be better if Juaid open with Tamim because he got a century in his last match and he also opened before in lot of matches. So he is the best option in this situation.

Same as obayed bhai's just changed the batting line up a bit. But let me tell you thats a very long batting line up. Hope they dont give away too many early wickets. First session of batting is crucial, even 60 to 70 run is enough providing we get there without loosing any wicket.

nazimuddin is the current test opener, if they want to keep selecting him they need to play him in that opener position imo, there is no point of continuing to select nazimuddin unless it's to continue to see his opening abilities at test level otherwise he is just a wasted selection. junaid has shown that at test level he is clearly better at the #3 spot so it would make sense to play him at #3 if he's in the XI.
