i think you spoke to soon. He has just scored a solid 53. Hope this will boost his confidence.

i think imrul should be considered for ODIs, he's a no no for t20s and tests, pretty much a one-day specialist.

He scored match winning contributions at the World Cup against England and the Netherlands infact he was our best batsman at that tournament plus almost scored a deserving 100 against Australia. I agree with Gowza that Imrul is pretty much a one-day specialist batsman.

Our selectors don't believe in the idea of any format specialist (Zia the exception). Whoever is good in tests, also good for T20s.

Sublime? Seriously? Were you watching the same game that the rest of us were? All his 4s were streaky. Lots of swings and misses as well. That was definitely not a chanceless innings.

Our selectors are puppets...when they see Nazi and the zunaid (equally con as ash) score big in ONCE in domestic...they go all hype and brings them into the team.

can someone find some statistics on the bd's best partnership for opening duo?

I think Imrul and Tamim has the best partnership average in BD history as ODI openers.

And I am pretty sure most of tamims best innings were when he opened with Imrul.

Thank you to the bro in advance whoever is willing to dig the stats

Its just a shame our selectors are so narrow-minded and cannot see the whole picture i.e. that stat Sayeed brought up. Imrul Kayes needs to play in ODIs and partner Tamim and have Anamul at 3 etc. There's no point going with new inexperienced youngsters. By the time the last 3 ODIs come up, this should be their ultimate ODI line-up:

01.Tamim
02.Imrul
03.Anamul
04.Shakib
05.Nasir
06.Rahim
07.Mahmudullah
08.Mortaza
09.Razzak
10.Shafiul/Abul/Gazi
11.Nazmul/Rubel

Here is part 2 of your query.
Tamim's performance by partner (TOTAL partnership runs - not only his own): (not necessarily opening partner)

Play shuvagata or mominul instead of Riyad, won't happen but should. Sunny gas a good case to be in ahead if gazi though gazi adds a different variation not usual for BD teams. Also shakib and nazmul are injured fir now.

@Gowza:- Mahmudullah is experience and has a good batting average compared to most so I'd stick with him for a while yet plus can bowl some handy off spin. Mominul is not ready yet but this team I have selected above I'm sure we win our home games against teams ranked 4 and below 7/10.

Imrul is a genius no doubt and should be immediately given a call back.

riyad isn't suited to bat that low in ODIs though, mominul and shuvagata are better hitters than riyad. shuvagata bowls some offspin to so he can chip in with the ball, mominul not so much.

Consulting the list, Ash, Jahirul are much better openers. They score at a higher strike rate too...

Kaedge could possibly edge out Jahirul for the opening spot with a good innings today

They might not debut Anamul just yet due to his last performance. It seems like Naeem and Jahurul are pretty much guaranteed in the team. If thats the case then we could try out this lineup

1. Tamim Iqbal
2. Imrul Kayes
3. Jahurul Islam
4. Naeem Islam
5. Nasir Hossain
6. Mahmudullah
7. Mushfiqur Rahim
8. Mashrafe Mortaza
9. Sohag Gazi
10. Abdur Razzak/Elias Sunny/Enamul Haque jnr
11. Rubel Hossain

Imrul is ordinary! a joke for some of you guys wanting to include him in the team. He's even struggling in this T20 league.

Sorry BP, I don't see him coming back into the NT in any format anytime soon. Imrul Kayes Shagor of Meherpur was a standout player in our appalling, pretty much noncompetitive, and farcically called "FC" and "List A" cricket. He was known for his compact play and high percentage strokemaking about 4 or 5 years ago, and I was one of his earliest backers in this forum. Sadly, he never could carry his domestic form over to the highest level. His luck and fluke assisted streaky runs off of every possible edge of the cricket bat made him a stop gap measure at best as long as he didn't run out of luck, AND there wasn't anyone better. He has struck out on both counts and his current form isn't helping either.

The chapter on walking wickets like Imrul, Junaid, Nayeem, Omi and many, many others need to be permanently.

He was never really a long term solution unfortunately even when he was hitting those streaky 50's. And it's not helping that he's performing poorly in domestics. Like any player I think it's possible to make a comeback but he needs to help himself out first by scoring runs.

Imo Imrul has been unfairly snubbed from the ODI team. What did he exactly do except screw up badly in tests? He should never have been dropped from the ODI team. He was never a test or t20 player. But the selectors have used his 'test' form to find an excuse to drop him from the ODI team.

i think a combination of poor test form, poor domestic form and poor ODI form is what got him dropped from the ODI team. i didn't realise it but in the last 2 years he's played 12 matches/12 innings in ODIs and averaged in the 19s with 1 half century. plus overall his ODI average dropped into the 27s which isn't anything special.
