সাইকেলে চড়ে বাংলাদেশ ড্রেসিংরুমে! মাসুদ পারভেজ, খুলনা থেকে
সাইকেলে চেপে শুরু করা যাত্রায় অবশেষে সেই গন্তব্যের দেখা পেলেন মমিনুল হক, যেখানে পৌঁছানোর স্বপ্ন থাকে যেকোনো ক্রিকেটারেরই। অনেক দিন চৌকাঠে দাঁড়িয়ে থাকা এ বাঁহাতি ব্যাটসম্যান ঢুকে গেলেন জাতীয় দলে।
সেটা তাঁর ব্যাটের সৌরভে সবাইকে সুরভিত করেই। এখানে বলে রাখা ভালো যে মমিনুলের ডাকনামও 'সৌরভ'। এমনিতে ওয়েস্ট ইন্ডিজের বিপক্ষে প্রথম দুই ওয়ানডের দলে তাঁর জায়গা পাওয়ারই কথা ছিল না। কিন্তু ইনজুরির কারণে সাকিব আল হাসান ছিটকে যাওয়ায় সুযোগটা চলে এলো। টিম ম্যানেজমেন্ট একজন খাঁটি ব্যাটসম্যানই দলে চাইছিল; কিন্তু অলরাউন্ডার নেওয়ার চিন্তায় নির্বাচকরা কিছুটা দ্বিধায় ছিলেন। তবে প্রস্তুতি ম্যাচে বিসিবি একাদশের হয়ে জাতীয় দল এবং ওয়েস্ট ইন্ডিজের বিপক্ষে পরপর দুই দিনে ৪৫ ও ৪৩ রানের দুটো ইনিংসে ফয়সালাটা তাঁর পক্ষেই যায়।
সিদ্ধান্তটা নিতে কতখানি বিলম্ব হয়েছে, সেটিই বোঝাতে কাল বিকেলে প্রধান নির্বাচক আকরাম খান তাঁর মোবাইল ফোনের একটি খুঁদে বার্তা খুলে দেখান, '৩টা ৪৬ মিনিটে সিদ্ধান্ত হয়েছে। আর মমিনুল আউট হয়েছে ৩টা ৪৫ মিনিটে।' এ সুযোগটা ধারাবাহিকতার পুরস্কার হিসেবেই পেয়েছেন বলে জানালেন আকরাম, 'এক-দেড় বছর ধরে ও খুব ভালো ব্যাট করে আসছে। জাতীয় দলের বাইরের ব্যাটসম্যানদের মধ্যে যারা ফর্মে আছে, তাদের মধ্যে ধারাবাহিকতায় মমিনুলই সবচেয়ে এগিয়ে। ওয়েস্ট ইন্ডিজ হাইপারফরম্যান্স দলের বিপক্ষে ভালো ইনিংস আছে। এবারের জাতীয় লিগেও আছে দুটো সেঞ্চুরি।'
এ সবকিছুরই যোগফলে জাতীয় দলের স্বপ্নপূরণ। সাইকেল চালিয়েই যে স্বপ্ন ধরার জন্য চলতে শুরু করেছিলেন মমিনুল। ২০০৪ সালে বিকেএসপিতে ভর্তি হন। কিন্তু এর আগের বছর জানলেন ভর্তি পরীক্ষায় অংশ নেওয়ার যোগ্যতাই নাকি তাঁর নেই। সে জন্য উচ্চতা হতে হবে অন্তত পাঁচ ফুট। কিন্তু মমিনুল তখন মেরে-কেটে চার ফুট আট কী নয়! সাইকেল চালালে লম্বা হওয়া যাবে! কারো কাছ থেকে এমনটা জেনেই বাবাকে সাইকেল কিনে দেওয়ার আবদার করে বসলেন। বাবাও কিনে দিলেন। এরপর আর যান কোথায়! লম্বা হওয়ার জন্য কক্সবাজার শহরে ধুমসে সাইকেল চালাতে লাগলেন!
এর ফলাফলটা শুনুন মমিনুলের নিজের মুখ থেকেই, 'সাইকেল চালানোটা খুব কাজে দিয়েছিল। আমি বিকেএসপিতে পাঁচ ফুট হয়েই ঢুকেছিলাম।' অথচ ক্রিকেট খেলার জন্য সেই কৈশোরে মায়ের কত মারই না হজম করেছেন। আর এখন সেই ক্রিকেট দিয়েই মমতাময়ী মা মালেকা জয়নাবের মুখে হাসি ফোটানোর লক্ষ্য এ তরুণের। এখানে এসেই আর দশজন ক্রিকেটারের চেয়ে মমিনুলের গল্পটা একটু অন্যদিকে মোড় নিয়ে নিচ্ছে। বছরখানেক হয় মস্তিষ্কের রক্তক্ষরণে তাঁর মা শয্যাশায়ী। কাল সন্ধ্যায় মায়ের বর্তমান অবস্থা জানাতে গিয়ে কণ্ঠটা ধরে আসে মমিনুলের, 'অন্যের কথা বোঝেন; কিন্তু নিজে কোনো কথা বলতে পারেন না।'
তবে ক্রিকেটে ছেলের যেকোনো সাফল্যের খবরে মুখের কোণে ফুটে ওঠা হালকা হাসির রেখাই মমিনুলের জন্য এখন পৃথিবীর শ্রেষ্ঠতম দৃশ্য, 'আমি নিজে ফোনে তাঁকে খবরটা দিতে পারলে কী যে খুশি হতেন। কিন্তু উনি তো কথা বলেন না। তাই ফোন দিইনি। তবে জানি তাঁর মনে এতক্ষণে খুশির জোয়ারই বয়ে যাচ্ছে। জাতীয় দলের হয়ে ভালো খেললে আরো বেশি খুশি হবেন নিশ্চয়ই। খেলার সুযোগ পেলে তাই আমি আমার মায়ের জন্যই খেলব।' ভেতরে ভেতরে এমন পণ করে রাখা মমিনুলের কথায় অবশ্য কাল বিকেলেও জাতীয় দলে সুযোগ পাওয়ার উচ্ছ্বাস ধরা কঠিন ছিল। বিসিবি একাদশ-ওয়েস্ট ইন্ডিজের প্রস্তুতি ম্যাচ শেষ হওয়ার পর পরই সংবাদমাধ্যমের সামনে নিজেকে একরকম নিরাবেগ বলেই মনে করিয়ে গেছেন কেবল!
অবশ্য এমন আবেগহীন তিনি তাঁর শহরের গৌরব নিয়েও। বিশ্বের দীর্ঘতম সমুদ্রসৈকতের শহর কক্সবাজার তাঁর ঠিকানা। অথচ সমুদ্র নাকি তাঁকে টানেও না, 'আপনারা হয়তো মনে করেন যে কক্সবাজার গেলেই আমি সমুদ্রে ঝাঁপাতে যাই। আসলে মোটেও সে রকম কিছু নয়। সমুদ্র আমাকে টানেই না। এই জীবনে বড়জোর চার-পাঁচবার হয়তো সমুদ্রে গোসল করেছি।' সমুদ্র টানেনি; কিন্তু ক্রিকেট টেনেছে। এরই টানে ছুটে চলা মমিনুল জাতীয় দলে ঢোকার প্রতিক্রিয়া প্রকাশ করতে গিয়ে শব্দ খরচে বড়ই কৃপণ। দু-এক কথায় জবাব শেষ। তাঁকে একটুও 'এক্সাইটেড' না দেখানোর কারণ ব্যাখ্যায় একবার বললেন, 'একেকজনের স্বপ্ন থাকে একেক রকম। আমার হয়তো আরো বড় স্বপ্ন আছে।' আরো বড় স্বপ্নের কথা কিছুতেই বলতে না চাওয়া মমিনুল এও শোনালেন, 'আমি অত উচ্ছ্বসিত হই না। হলে হয়তো অহংকার বা গর্ব চলে আসতে পারে।'
সেই বড় স্বপ্নটা কি তাঁর শহরের আরেকটি 'গৌরব' হওয়ার? হলেও হতে পারে। যদি তাই হয়ে থাকে, তাহলে সেই স্বপ্নের পথে যাত্রার শুরুটাও কিন্তু সাইকেল চালিয়েই হয়েছে!

I already like this kid. Whether his selection was the right choice is a different question, but now that he's in, I hope he makes it count. He has a good attitude, but obviously, that alone isn't enough.

This kid is a carbon copy of Purbasha. If Purbasha grows some khucha khucha dari, he could probably sub in for Mominul and no one would even know the difference.

Best of luck to Mominul. It is good to see that he has been groomed to be part of the national team. Now, that he is selected, he needs to be given adequate chances. I would love to see Amanul and Mominul cement their place in the side.

His responses to the interviewer showed why I expect this kid to shine. He seems to have a maturity and a good head on his shoulders. I will have to wait and see how he plays though.

@cricketboy, I m not really fussed about averages in our FC cricket. The only thing that matters in Bangladesh is DPL and I judge a player based on their performances there until I can watch them play with my own eyes. So far from what I know he has been more successful in DPL compared to Anamul. Regardless I want both of them to shine, however Anamul doesn't seem to have the maturity yet and seems to have stage fright.

Sometimes it takes time to settle down in international cricket. There has been a player called "Rahul Dravid" who couldn't score much in his first few international matches........

In fact most of the time, the new comers needs a little bit time to settle down... That's primarily the reason, you don't put in too many debutants at the same time in the team. So, if you give all the time to everyone fairly, the entire team needs the time,,,which sometimes isn't possible, so it works against the new comers. They get treated with impatience for the Need of the team.

We have had such mass debut in the past as well, and every time the team was in mess and we needed to give them time.....

Hope this time it's a different story....although the brain tells me to learn from the past.

New players to watch: Anamul, Momnul, Shohag, Abul..... If Nasir, Sunny can be considered to be settled.

Attitude and natural talents are two key ingredients to success. Discipline and hard work are among others.

No doubt he is a very good batsman. And he hits them clean. But he does have this tendency of losing his concentration and giving it away. Then again, he is still very young and will learn with time. Something tells me, he will turn out to be a better version of Ashraful with time.

I hope this isn't the sort of false confidence attempting to mask deeply embedded insecurities and performance anxiety we see amongst so many of our ignorant youth pretty much clueless about the world they live in.

Best batsman in the world? Really? He's in for a rude awakening then. This lack of humility bothers me. Maybe this came across the wrong way in the print media, but for a local NCL hero not be excited about representing his country is an effing shame.

I don't think he said anything about being the best batsman in the world. Also I'm sure he's very excited about being in the national team but he's just stating that he's not going to just settle for the national team. He wants to go beyond that.

To me that's a great attitude to have. I could be wrong here but it seems the younger players such as Nasir, Bijoy, Mominul, Raju, and Taskin are more driven than our previous generations. Our previous generations seemed to just settle for the national team where the younger guys are aiming higher. Well it remains to be seen as to how they respond. Our 19/20 year old generation are extremely important to our success. We're still a #9 team and need more quality in order to become a better team.

That was Anamul's dream, but when you watch him play, he acts like he's never held a bat in his life.
