They are gonna come at us really really hard this time! no jokes....
the New Zealand Banglawash got really tough in the end lest we forget. specially the 4th and 5th ODI, and also remember the 5th ODI was a batting track and we screwed it up until.....

Looks like a simple machine learning model could be constructed. For simplicity, we can start with the following features:
- Oponent strength - we can use ICC rating as a value
- Type of match (ODI/TEST/T20I)
- Ground
Of course, we can start more and more features such as month of match, who batted first, team compositions (how many spinners vs pacers), etc etc.
Of course, the more features we have, we need to come up with some feature selection algorithm - or we may be in danger over fitting.
I just have a gut feeling that we might get best results with an SVM. But YMMV.
|
We also need to give players of both teams some ranking
For example Shakib +5
Gazi +4 (considering he'll learn dusra ,tisra from saqlain)
Tamim +3
Junaid 0
Ashraful -2
SN -3
Razzak (+3 for spin friendly pitch, -2 for unfriendly pitch)
If you want to find out expected result/outcome than yes SVM is my guess too, but if you want to choose players based on opponents, ground, month of the year, recent performance etc, I would suggest Rule based learning C4.5 (decision tree).
May be something our selectors and team management can consider.

I just realized, game will start at a horrible time for me, now that it's a D/N!
More reason to like Khulna.

Dont know whetehr it is the right thread highlight this. When Banglaesh white washed WI few years back at their home, lots of experts (?) commeneted that , this WI was not full strength WI with some key player missing. What about this series, is BD playing with full strength without SAKIB and RUBEL? For me 70% BD is playing with 100% WI and thrashing them.

Since it's D/N, we must choose to bowl first if we win the toss. Dew factor will play a role in the evening as it's winter.

I foresee changes in the WI side and approach for this game. I think Permaul will come in for Narine and Powell will replace Simmons (who seems to suffer from chronic brain fart syndrome like Nafees)
Not sure how Gayle will play though... so far the tentative approach has not worked for him so he might go all out from first ball this time.
Whatever happens the pressure is fully on West Indies. They are the recent world-cup winning higher ranked side with power hitters. We simply have to keep doing the same thing we have been doing which is to bowl good line and length and not give them freebies. If we do that and still WI make 270-280, we do have the batting talent to chase it down. We have handled WI bowling in ODIs very well. Rampaul has been the only threat so far and we can neutralize him if we are careful against the short pitched delivery.

Win toss, bowl first.
Due factor later at night will play a huge part, specially for our spinners.

Dew factor will play a key role in wednesday's match. Dhaka always puts an extra burden of expectations on our players which they have to overcome. I am expecting another Tamim blitz tomorrow.

If I was West Indies team management I would bring in Powell, Ramdin, Permaul and Roach for Simmons, Thomas, Narine and Smith.

It's actually embarrassing. But still happy that they didn't go to practice during hartal. I was really worried about the players safety. Glad that the practice got cancelled.
Those Rajakars.. Couldn't wait few more days..

Jamat called for this hartal Mo bhai. I hate when the political parties call for hartal. But that's another topic..

Pilot and Rakibul shared their views on TV. A few things they pointed out:
1. The Dhaka pitch may not have been prepared as 'spin friendly' as planned, which is not good.
2. Whoever wins the toss should bat first. As a day nighter, no juice is expected from pitch and the team bowling second may face problems due to the dew factor.
3. There were no contest in the First two games, but the Dhaka games are expected to be opposite.
4. WI might have ignored the recent ODI success of BD due to the Test series win and they being the T20 chmps. Fair chance that they have understood their mistake of underestimating the BD team.
