I think Shakib is the closest candidate as he somewhat fits into those first two criteria (tactician+performer). Now only if he learned how to manage a team and encourage them to perform as a team.

Nobody was a perfect captain so far.

Nicely summarized..... But as NW points out, I think we are heading towards that balance in the team, it could be the right time to bring back Shakib as the captain....

It wasn't Shakib's fault entirely, it was the coach who made others second class team members in public and media/fans were doing so much Shakib bondona, instead of the team, that it was very easy for a young guy to get misguided. I think he has got his lessons and we have a changed environment in the team. It's time that Shakib gets the captaincy back to take the team ahead.

But please don't make TI the vice captain.

Mr.Consistent
The Magura Mauler
The man who gets wickets and gets runs.
Kolkata Knightrider's best kept secret.
The Arm ball assassin.
The always ice cold, one and only pound for pound, best all rounder in the worldddddddd!
Ladies and gentleman, the best ever captain of Bd was..........

SHAKIB AL HASSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSAN!

PS: We can rave and debate about the strategic aspects of a captain, but come on, their differences in this regard were small. Some were truly terrible like Bashar, others were only marginally better. I don't think no one Bd cricketer is strategically superior to his peers. So if you have the choice, why not go with your best player? Unless of course, he himself doesn't want it.

Still we are not able to produce 11 world class cricketer. So I am not thinking about a worldclass captain. I know all the captain we produced all have deficiency. To me as per our standard none of Akram Khan, K M Sujon, KM Pilot, Mushy Shakib are bad captain. In our standard all are good captain.
Captaining a poor team is really tough. Among them I like Mushy most. He have some deficiency no doubt. To me he need a good deputy and Shakib is the best candidate. To me Mushy+ Shakib combination can take us a long way.

Sorry a person who can not unite the team how can he be a captain?
Shakib needs more time to learn about captaincy.

I absolutely disagree. The best captain is who gets the best results given the resources available. For example, MAK Pataudi was one of the (if not the) best captains of Indian cricket. He did not have the team to win consistently, but he won way more than he was supposed to (given the strength of his team).

No one fits that mold as of now. Perhaps one of the youngsters will emerge in that role in the future.

Actually, Mushy + Shakib might be a good combo. Only if they are willing to work together as captain and vice captain.

Some of you have mentioned that Mushy has good managerial quality than Sakib and team members are more united under his leadership . But Lotus Kamal in last T20 WC was not happy with Mushy's captaincy in and out side of the field . He kept distance with other members (staying in hotel room)!!

sujon was good captain , though as a player he was average.

ashraful was good captain, he is not scared to try new things plus his bowlers rotation was good.

as a captain, shakib performed well but he is not a good captain, he cant control his emotions, anger.

bashar was too defensive like mushfiq, always follow book rules, never experiments.

to me he is the best captain, who can make good toss decision and rotate bowlers according to situation. so my vote is for ash

mashrafe is too superstitious, so big no to mash.

IMO Khaled Mahmud Sujon was the best captain.Though as a player,at the time of captain wasn't so good. But his captaincy was impressive. But in his erra the team wasn't so strong. For this he didn't get any significant success.

There was another who is Khaled Masud Pilot during his captaincy erra he was the best performer in the team. In Sri Lanka he was man of the series in an ODI series which was the first in Bangladesh cricket history.

Akram Khan was also referable. We won our ICC trophy in 1997 under him.

I really dont understand the fascination with Sujon and Pilot....
Sujon used to regularly brought himself on during the final 10 overs. Even at that era he was only good enough to be a part timer at best.

Pilot played a major role in the 2003 wc disaster where we lost to both Canada and kenya....

Shakib was the only great captain we ever had. The other guy who had the potential to be a good captain was Aminul Islam may be....

I want to Shakib as the captain of BD in all formats. Mushy is simply not a captain material, at least not at this level...

But please don't make TI the vice captain.
I don't think after the way shakib was sacked and not giving any chance to say anything for self defence and media make him villen he will never agree to take captaincy again.
See dhoni, vettori even they get beaten 5-0,4-0.
Board keep confidence in them.

what was his fault he did not wanted to take a crap, loser, ash in odi team who's avr. was 12 in 1year.

I still remember how many member of bc celebrate the fact shakib gets a lesson of lifetime,he was
jealous of crapy ,loser of ash blah blah.
Now you people want him back.

I don't want shakib to take captaincy again.
Because people love to search his fault than anyone.

Before shakib who lost captaincy of bd lost in sea and out of team be it ash, bashar, sujon, pilot, durjoy.

But shakib comes back strongly.
The way he treated by bcb was very painful for him.
He should given chance for saying something for self defence by bcb.

Even after if bcb thought there need for captaincy change they should ask shakib to resgine.

Shakib was not greedy for captaincy,it was bcb who fourcefully gave it to him.
Nither shakib needed captaincy to remain in limelight his bat and ball is enough.

Shakib has self repect and dignity i belive.
So i think he will reject captaincy offer in future.

So i think bd has no option apert from mushfiqur rahim in near future.
