Default Mushfiq's Captaincy

Since Mushy has taken the captaincy in 2011, he has been by far the WORST captain in the world. Even Brendon Taylor of Zimbabwe was a far more intelligent leader on the field.

Since Mushy has been in charge, Bangladesh has - by far - the worst bowling average, 8 runs higher than next-worst, Zimbabwe.

The absolute low points, IMO, were 2 particular innings:

The time when he just let Sanga score 319 by pushing all fielders back at the end of the over and allow him to farm the strike with the tail.

The second one was when he did the same thing to Chakabva and gave him the easiest test ton ever scored.

However, since the SA Tests, I have been pleasantly surprised to see positive field settings from Mushy.

It continued in the current Test vs England were we have bowled the opposition out for 248 and 293 in our last 2 completed innings, respectively.

Mushy has kept close in catchers for the spinners, and set innovative fields at crucial times. In fact, I would go so far as to say that in the last 2 innings, he's been perfect in his captaincy.

Against SA and England his captaincy has been great.

But still can't get over how he lost us games in so many different formats

Mushy still sucks as captain, brought Rabbi when England were 21/3 and released the pressure and also didn't use Shabbir as a surprise element againt Right handers when needed. Score of 290+ in this pitch is like 600. Bangladesh will be all out before 180 and we would be going towards another big defeat.

With good captaincy we could have easily wrapped up England below 200 and would have been competitive.

Not happy with his captaincy. Never have been. Never will be. Time we need a change. Heck, even Tamim will do better job.

Mushfiqur Rahim Mittu the cricketer and captaincy in a sumup:

A test craptain doesn't pull that and then tweet about some bullshit the next day. No brain, no clue, all childish emotions.
Happiness is when he will give up craptaincy and weaketcrapping and just focus on batting.

He is not intelligent in terms of strategy, perhaps late in thinking. He should not be a test captain, BD should try with Mahmudullah.

Having said that, every bowlers in BD team (except Shakib, Mehedi in this test) lacking consistency bowling 6 balls in an over. Always gives couple of bad ball in an over, for which we are leaking runs and releasing pressure. Dont know waht kind of bowling practice they are doing to play TEST cricket. And bowling coach has lots of work to do on this regard.

You are still going on about that tweet? When there are cricketing decisions to be questioned? Really bro?

I need to compile all the times I said he sucks as a captain. I think I will lose 10 years from my lifetime to find all of them.

I have got a bone to pick with ANYONE who says or keeps him as a captain after this series. EVEN if we win this.

Lmfao that Sanga match

Brought tears to my eyes in frustration how he was able to shield the tail because of his fielding placements

it doesnt even seem like anyone from the coaching staff or the board is worried about his captaincy. Shows how much they care about our test cricket.

I have to agree with Alfie here. He has improved a lot recently.

Brought Shakib in very early and that resulted in Cook's wicket. Did a brave review of Ballance. To naked eye, it looked like it hit the bat. Then another good review of Broad who had the faintest of the edges. Started the day with Taijul to Woakes and got a wicket right away. Continued with him even when Rashid was getting aggressive and that resulted a wicket.

Overall, he was very aggressive. Even when Root was going well, he kept fielders in close and kept the pressure.

Historically, I wasn't a fan of his captaincy but gotta give credit where its due. Looks like seeing Mash over the past 1 year did him some good..

Definitely improved no doubt. The ultimate test for him would be when Fizz and Taskin play together(i.e we have a very lethal lineup and he loses match from winnable situation) i think that's when he may lose his captaincy. Busy schedule coming up for him and Bangladesh as Bangladesh is scheduled to play many tests within the nest 12 months or so.

Mushfiq was so bad that it prompted one of the comms to call him witness (said something along the lines of you've to have your wits about you when captaining a test match). It was when the English were 3 wickets down, struggling against spin, and Mushy decided to release pressure by introducing Rabbi. Equally flabbergasting was when he set a defensive field for Rabbi. These are shocking things that no one else (including school level cricketers) does.

And then, he kept bowling Miraz and Shakib from the wrong side of the wicket. An offspinner bowling over the wicket to a left-hander and thus taking the offie's advantage away - it was ridiculous. That drastically reduced the chance of an LBW, and the angle made it easier for Moeen to bat. He was struggling till then and went from struggling to hitting boundaries. Again, one of the comms made a comment about getting rudimentary things wrong. After the odd, failed experiment, the bowlers bowled to their advantage again. But an int'l level cricketer shouldn't need trial and error to figure out what advantageous for an offie to an left-hander.

And of course, he kept bowling the same bowlers even when they were tired. Made Shakib bowl a marathon spell, and Shakib had to bowl poorly and give away boundaries for 2-3 overs before he took him off. All the while, he had Taijul available. Bowled Miraz for 10-12 overs in a row. And didn't bowl Sabbir.

Didn't review when Moeen was out when he was right behind the stumps, and I didn't see him asking Miraz for his opinion. Ridiculous captaincy. Even if it's a 50-50 (odds should've been higher given he was right behind the stumps), you take the review when you get two every session or two.

About attacking field placements, your standards must be very low (at a dafuq, what are you smoking level) if you're hailing a captain for setting an attacking test field with that pitch when we were spinning the ball and the English were struggling that much. That wouldn't make sense to not do even for Mushfiq.

We saw real captaincy from Cook, Mushy should learn. He is by far the worst captain in the history of the sports. We could have bowled out England for under 200, if it wasn't for his stupidity, replacing key spinners with Rabbi when England were 22/3, then not reviewing Ali's LBW decision. He even overbowled Shakib at one point, everyone including audience knew he was tiring, but Mushy only figured it out after he was hit for few 4s.

When did Mushy overbowl Shakib? If i remember SHakib bowled the least of the 3 spinners.

And that Ali LBW was supposed to be Miraz's call because he had a far better view.

Not the total number of overs. He gave Shakib an unnecessary long spell in the middle when he was clearly getting tired, he was hit out for few 4s and then got replaced eventually. Just check the cricinfo commentrary details for 1st innings.

As for the review, Mushy is the keeper, he has a good idea on where the ball is going as well, Miraz is a 18 year old playing his 1st test. Can't expect him to make such a decision. Also, as a the skipper he should be attacking and plan to get England all out as early as possible and not "save" review for future..

Shakib himself is a senior player, if he felt tired he would have talked to Mushy.

And as for Miraz, he had the best view in the house. The direction of the ball was going down leg, Mushy saw that. But after it pitched and spun, it was visible only to Miraz, and the umpire. Its difficult for the keeper to notice that from behind the stump. These kind of the decision(with the ball spinning after pitching and striking pads), is supposed to be made by the bowler. Basically, it was unfortunate, can't blame Miraz either, he was inexperienced

A captain cannot make all the decisions for himself.

He needs support from the other senior players. But all of Shakib, Tamim and Riad are dead in the outfield. Tamim does encourage the bowlers a bit, but otherwise there is nothing from him at all. Riad always looks as if someone died. Shakib is disinterested.

In ODIs, Mushy and Mashrafe always teamed up and lifted up everyone.

Oh come on lets not over praise mushy for this game. Its a spinning track, its a bit obvious you bring fielders into catching positions, have men around the batsmen - It's not rocket science on such wicket.
Wait till BD play on a flat wicket again. Watch mushy at his best in terms of mediocre captaincy, setting fielders back against a new batsman just came in, allowing batmen take easy tons, not apply any pressure on tailenders; always waiting things to fall from the sky into his hands!

Mushy's weak captaincy showing again, letting Ali and Stokes settle down with 2 lefties Shakib and Taijul. Needed to bring back Miraz..He also needs to mix things up by brining Shabbir and Mahmuddulah for few overs.
