Default Don`t Think Shakib can be a ATG

Plays For Personal Stats,
Plays for money
Plays for Himself

Please keep this guy away from batting keep him at 6 or 8 he can bowl or something, his batting his useless,he throws the team into deep **** everytime he bats at 4-5, he thinks he is invincible and has a one season pass after he scores a hundred, get this guy a break before he has every ounce of recklessness juiced out of him, did u guys see the England Test, he was playing to get out a couple of times, now his boys will get me or hating on their idol shakib, so what? did you see the chances they had in his 217, this guy is so confused, plays test in t20i,t20i in ODI does a **** job at it too, plays t20i in tests.....Even as a Bangladeshi, Shakib isn`t a long term solution, throw some money at him while he plays for Bangladesh and he will score, sometimes think he just plays to impress IPL selectors, moneys got to him really.

He just needs to perform and be consistent in all conditions against all test nations. A batting average of 40 and bowling average of 32 for a spinner would get him ATG status as an all rounder imo, obviously if he can improve on that then he'll make an even greater case for himself.

As far as playing for personal stats I wouldn't say he does that. If he was playing for personal stats wouldn't he value his wicket a bit more? He'd probably have more centuries to his name if he was doing that.

At current I'd still consider him the best player Bangladesh has produced to date.

Oh man why the defensive all the time. Amader boro bhai ra, morobh ira ektu tamen plz. Freedom of speech ekta jinish ache. Op has valid points he may be right or wrong but isn't a disgrace. This mann shommann stuff one must be looking at before commenting ended since mobile internet, faster internet, came into existence, around the world. Ami ekti jinish bochina keno amader deshi manush, desis in general, easy to label a thing or two being disgrace to them in general or to the nation, when only one just made a comment, his/her feelings be heard in the name of freedom of speech.
Am sure you can disagree, and dislike their comment or post, but why does it has to be a national disgrace lol. It seems same with all desis.

zee is right. it is a disgrace to question a player's motive and inspiration esp when this player is the best one BD has ever produced.

you can criticize his style of play and the various shortcomings all you want. but to say that he only "plays for money" and throw some money at him is utterly disrespectful. just imagine that a kid even before reaching puberty left his home and parents and moved to bksp and worked years under a hard regime just to be trained on cricket. whereas his friends back in magura were having a normal life.

so yeah discuss and criticize his game but to say money is the only reason is disgraceful.

Well OP has some valid points but let me tell you something about Brian Lara

His 401* against England was one which robbed West Indies from the oppurtunity to win the match. 401 runs means your team has to play atleast 150 overs alone and if you bat that long your team can't enforce a result which actually happened. Match ended in a draw.

Truth is Shakib is reckless. He is still immature

But nope, you can't call him SELFISH. Shakib is anything but selfish. He has never valued premier leagues over playing for country. He has done his level best to be fit for international cricket. He used to mention how playing worldwide would help his cause when playing for Bangladesh team.

The issue is that Shakib is not a high-impact player. He will always be a support player and an excellent one at that. That is the true role of "genuine" allrounders. They are not exceptional in either discipline but very good with both.

Our struggles are mainly because we have an opener who has played close to 300 internationals but he doesn't know anything wiser than dancing down the track against a pacer, and not to mention always choking whenever the team needs him. Even Imrul Kayes has better performances under pressure. And we then have the nerves to talk about Anamul or Litton, both who would have matured into much better batsman than Tamim if they even got half the oppurtunity and the freedom.

We have a middle order batsman playing since 2007 and he keeps on dropping dollies usually struggles to get past 30s.

We don't even have a quality specialist spinner.

Shakib is a limited player, has always been like that. But difference between him and the rest is that he has played to his potential.

Lol some fans are just plain

Sakib is still the face of BD cricket, he has always been. The best all rounder in limited overs format and among the very bests in test.

The only player from BD XI who would walk into any team atm, a potential ATG without a doubt.

The thing with some fans is they don't realise how much other teams would value Shakib, for us he needs to win matches with bat and bowl singlehandedly, but he's not an impact player, he's a consistency player, he'll never be the best with the bat or sometimes the ball... But he'll probably be top 2 all the time.

How many subcontinent all rounders have got a 200 in NZ... Doesn't matter cause everyone else is crap and we lose... Even though reality is most teams would have struggled in NZ where in one only 9 were fit to bat and in other 3 of the top 5 were missing...

Look at kallis.. Top 3 GOAT, top 5 no question asked, but guys like Flintoff got talked about more because he could have impact spells and could sleep rest of the time.

People forget kallis at one point was the only batter averaging 40+ in SA, he consistently churned out performance after performance and with new players emerging, guys like Smith AB steyn got talked about more...as they were the ones that 'won' matches

Not that am comparing Shakib to kallis

Shakib is the greatest player we've ever produced by a long long way, he's one of the greatest Asian players ever and if he got more opportunities, I am certain he could show it, because he's got the skillset to play well in any country

But he'll never be the match winner people want him to be...he never will be, he's no Gary Sobers, lot of the time it's emotion that clouds judgement, hell people were saying stokes is better than shakib in England series, but that being my second team I have seen how many times he fails and gets out playing rash, but in a bigger team that gets covered up with others performing

To put that in context Stokes averages 7 less with the bat and 2 with the ball, that too without the burden of carrying a team for a decade, Shakib contributed 42% of the team output... That's 1 player of 11 delivering that much

Sobers gave 31%, the Asian greats imran gave 35, Kapil gave 32

That's some thing to match if that's barely average by some accounts

OP makes it sound as if attaining ATG tag is simple. There have been players much better than Shakib in the past and were never considered ATG.

Which is further enforced in the choices in the poll.

This. People often don't value what they have got.

There is a reason why he is my second most favorite player from BD

Most favorite is Soumya for obvious reasons ...those glimpses of dada, flashy drives and I get carried away

Stokes is highly overrated BTW, thanks to British media.

Stokes: You’ve got a bit of a swagger on here, Marlon, considering you’re 14 for three

Samuels: Shut the f*** up, you little b***h

Gold

I personally like sportsmen with fiery attitude, but arrogant on the field and bitching and whining outside is what does not go well with me

Definitely not an ATG.

But a world class player from Bd, who makes cricket work for him, but he doesn't work for cricket. I respect that in some sense, any sports while fun is hard on the body. So might as well take as much money from it as you can and take nothing personally.

Won't reach his true heights. Why? Look at how he batted last test match against NZ, Series against England at home. And see the way he gives his wicket away most times, playing silly cricket out of nowhere, all of a sudden!!
