Default Breaking News: Shakib might miss SL Tests!

Its on cricinfo...the article does mention that the decision rests with Shakib and the selectors, but Akram has hinted that he thinks the ZIM tour is more important and wants to rest Shakib for SL series.

Hopefully the competitive spirit in Shakib will play in the SL tests, because otherwise we're effed.

It was coming all these days, but hope he will play in SL series. I rather want him to rest in Zimbo series.

I agree. If possible, Shakib should play SL series and miss Zim. We are strong now and can beat Zim without him. But we need to win or put up strong fight against the Lankans.

I agree, its best for him to play the whole series against Sri Lanka than Zimbabwe rather the other way around. But that doesn't mean we should take Zimbabwe lightly after what happened in 11. Hopefully the test series against Zimbabwe even the ODI series will be increased.

My thought too.

Shakib should be in SL squad unless his injury is a serious one.

Of course the decision might be predicated upon the injury and its seriousness (sounds like a condition called "shin splints" that my high school track coach diagnosed me with - which is very painful, but wholly benign) and not on the importance of the series.

But yes, I'd rather him sit out against ZIM than SL for obvious reasons. But ideally he should play both. A win against ZIM is neither guaranteed nor is it any less important in the grand scheme of things.

Shakib cleared for SL
Sports Reporter

Star all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan will be available for selection for the upcoming tour of Sri Lanka as a bone scan on his shin done yesterday revealed 'nothing serious'.

“There was no major problem. There were some stress reactions and you know he has carried these sorts of things, so it's nothing serious. Shakib however has has been suffering from three complications (Exertional Compartmental syndrom, Tenoperiostitis, stress reaction), so he needs multifaceted management,” said BCB's sports physician Debashish Chowdhury yesterday.

“Shakib played the BPL matches without any problem, so we are hopeful but we need to discuss elaborately about all the reports and then we can confirm whether he will be available for the longer-version matches. We will also talk with Shakib. Physiotherapy and exercise will be his treatment and most importantly he will need to be used in a restricted and controlled manner,” he said, adding that they will also send the reports abroad for the opinions of foreign experts.

Seems like he will miss the Test series. He will be available for the ODIs and T20.

phew, got me worried.
Good to have him in SL.
Forget Zimbabwe.
Forget BPL2, we can still win without scoring 200+ everytime

Sakib set to miss SL, Zimbabwe Test series

Quote:
‘We will decide on his future tomorrow [Friday] after discussing it with the selectors as he needs controlled participation in sports,’ said Debashish Chowdhury, a BCB physio.
‘He has got exertion participation syndrome and two-three minor injuries along with the stress reaction that he was carrying,’ he said.
Debashish indicated that he might not be available for the Test matches in Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe and could be available only for the one-dayers.

But he is my phantashy team captain

I would let Shak decide if he wants more rest or not. No need to force him to play tests if he is not ready mentally and physically. We cant afford to lose him for a longer period if he plays and get injured again

Like we play lots of tests anyway. I prefer if he plays in the Sri Lanka series than the Zimbabwe series since his injury is so 'serious'.

@Maysun - Ordinary Zimbabwe? funny we took them lightly in 11 and look what happened? got beat in Test and ODI series even our players took them lightly and if this is the attitude then sorry we will suffer the same fate again.

@Roman - New Zealand series is ages away, if you say we cannot beat Sri Lanka then really we shouldn't be wasting time playing with them. Hopefully after both these series are over, Bangladesh will get to tour Europe again and face Ireland in an ODI series as well to keep our team busy.

Correct me if I am wrong but I think we are having a series against NZ soon. To me that series has more appeal than SL and Zim series. There is no way we are going to win a test in SL but we have a realistic chance to do something against NZ. A fit Shak is a must for that series IMHO. If Shak is fit to play test against SL, it will be really good no doubt but don't want to risk playing a half fit Shak against SL.

No thank you! I'd rather have him sit out the SL tour than taking a risk and probably have him out for the ordinary Zimbabwe tour.

Shakib not playing? Another series win on the way guys

Anyways, I actually want Shakib to rest for the SL tour but be 100% for the Zim tour. Personally I wouldn't be able to handle it if we lost a test AND odi series against Zim. Losing to SL, a dominating team at home, won't sting me as much and probably won't garner a lot of criticism but losing to Zim...

My pick to replace Shakib would be Jahurul - he is versitile enough to fill in any batting position.

Please selectors, leave Momin out, he is still too green.

Absolutely agree. Momin has a few years before he should be in contention. Jahurul is in reasonable form and can hold his end in Tests.

I know it's a breaking news and bruhaha and bbq and all such that enchilada..but local talents have sputtered out from the kiln such that his position can still be questioned. Wishing him speedy recovery but boy! was BPL a revelation or sth. Only lament there is no a genius specialist SLA matching Shakib's wit, but I would take an in form Shamsur Rahman now over him. Or even Nafees. You say Shakib thrives under pressure, well T20 is a high pressure game and all the new talents have shown that they can cope with it from multiple angles of different players.
