Default Should Mushy stop keeping?

His keeping isn't exactly good against spin in tests, and it would take some burden of his shoulders as one of the most important batsmen in the team. So should Mushy hand over keeping to someone else? If yes whom?

I like Sohan's keeping, but his batting has still a long way to go. I don't mind todays in particular, but he's missed some really easy ones too, forgot to even stump Taufeeq off Shak's bowling, remember?

Not sure how Anamul does vs spin, haven't seen enough of him.

We don't have enough resources of International quality when it comes to keeping and being a batsman. So no chance of Sohan in the near future. Has to work on his batting.

Regarding Anamul, I think he is decent from what I have seen of him in the BPL matches but probably needs more experience. And moreover, we're just drafting him into our XI's. So, I don't think the burden will help him atm.

Leaves us with no choice. Mushy it is.

It hurt us badly when Mushy dropped that simple catch.

Plus he is a top order batsman, he always has been. He will hqve to bat down the order if he start keeping behind wickets in Test. Also Mushy has done pretty well down the order, why change something that's been working.

Take a breake. Non stop batting and keeping for 4 day in a row is not a piece of cake. even Dhoni and Prior would struggle

Its a huge advantage to have a keeper who can bat up in the order. Gives us the flexibility to add an extra bowler or batsman. Not a difficult job. See how Sanga has done it for Sri Lanka.

Mushy has improved and if the BPL was any indication, he's the best we've got.

He is still the best we have. Anamul is okay and needs more experience from what I saw in BPL. Also, he is not a regular player in Test side yet. Dhiman Ghosh's keeping deteriorated while Sohan still has a long way to go.

We invested a lot of time and energy and planning to get a wicket keeper batsman. Just when it is starting to pay off, we need to think about changing it? Why?

Mushy's keeping 3 years ago might have been a cause of concern, but just like his batting, his keeping has improved tremendously. Let him decide what he wants to do.

very true, can't overlook the fact that he has had a long match so far.
I didn't watch BD bowling today, but he is the best we have & he is improving.

and does Sanga do it now? why did he stop if it was so easy?
Also if it's not difficult why aren't there many more that do it, can you name, say 5 more?

Our fielders dropped dolly catches, it is not like you have to hold on everything after scoring 200, 100% perfection doesn't come readily, these are the stepping stones

How long has Sanga been keeping and batting?
He just stopped keeping very recently.
How many test do we play a year? This is the very first time Mushy's been on the field all 5 days.
Lets see few more tests and and see how he manage keeping and batting, then we can talk about bringing a specialist keeper for tests.
I have seen simple sitters being dropped by Gilly, Alec Stewart and other keepers. That just part of the package.
Mushy has improved greatly and he is the best we have.

Agree with you 100%, we are reaping the reward of our investment now. Like Sangakara, he can switch to a batsman only role for the team, later in his career.

You do realize this has nothing to do with today's dropped catch right? I'm primarily considering it being an advantage to his batting. And he didn't keep that bad in this test.

W OW nice post.
Yes Mushy has developed a lot as a keeper. He is the country best keeper now. No one around him even.
Now need of the team and available resources will develop either as Batsman Sangakara or Keeper Dhoni in test cricket.
