Agreed. It might not be perfect but it's a whole lot better than having nothing.

Would have been an interesting match if not for the rain, feel sorry for Clarke, everything is going against him this series.

these players may be no where near to ponting,gilly,warne,macgrath,martin,hayden etc but one think England forgot that they are still "Australians"

clarke is a great player, rogers has a great FC record so potentially he could be a great player, warner is pretty decent and the bowlers are pretty good. not a great team by any means but there's certainly enough there to cause trouble.

Doesn't matter that the series is lost, I'm happy to see some good fightback by the Aussies after the surrender in the 2nd test. Now a good finish to the tour will give them the much needed confidence to turn things around in their home series later this year.

yes it's important to keep the momentum going so they can take the ashes back in the home series.

Always thought Lyon should've played from the start. As bold and fearless a decision it might look to play a debutant like Agar at the beginning of an all important series, logic would've argued to go with your best and most experienced bowlers.

Watching Ian Bell bat is just sheer magnificence and poetry in motion! That's 2 amazing cut shots in the last 10 minutes, one square cut sent through the gap decisively, the next the most delectable late cut made to look so easy, but placed to perfection between 3rd slip and gully! Masterful!

And how does Ian Bell reach his half-century? With two consecutive glorious extra cover drives that penetrate the infield, and race off to the rope through the gap. Just sheer majesty and effortless timing and placement from Bell.

A moment of a good Ashes test innings is a moment of zen. It is like the fleeting beauty of the cherry blossoms in spring. No one can ever sell this to a SoCal valley girl!

A reason why I am not a fan of Eng team despite of so much class & talent in their team is because except KP the rest of their batsmen are not exciting to watch, Bell, Trott,Cook are too text bookish to my liking.

Even though I give England credit for their success, I believe that their batting hasn't really gotten exposed mainly due to the fact that there are just not enough class teams at the moment. The only one is SA and we saw how England did against them at home. Their batting just looks too one dimensional. If Pieterson was not in this team, I feel England would've struggled a lot more. Had the Australian batting been a bit better, we could've seen them win the Ashes. Problem is, it's really hard to replace any of these guys because they all have done pretty well. If Bairstow can get his career going, I feel he could add a different dimension to this team. Eoin Morgan could also be an option

This makes one wonder whether the current Australian side is mentally strong enough. In the highest level of any game, talent alone does not always guarantee success.

Fully agreed. That's why Tamim's gorilla like innings completely ambushed England who werent ready for his unorthodox style. He has what? 3 centuries against them...

@ammark Well i am not too fond of beauty in cricket in terms of a purist straight drives and such. In post-elitist era technique beauty is anciliary; what matters most is result. I havent watched the ashes fully, but while Lord's may have their charm with scattered mild applause where audience member are expected to be "knowledgable"... but so does boisterous t20 crowd in devil costume...

England players will not fare well in T20 i am afraid, as simon noted if they only rely on bookish approach...

@ammark

Also, a moment of zen doesn't necessarily have to be a rather kitschy scene from cheap reproduction of Claude Lorraine. Zen can be as visceral, as beastly, as rough, as crewd as vulgar rap music. That's the whole purpose of getting deep in Zen.
