I wonder who will open for India in the December series vs SA? Vijay has disappointed in this series and Rahane has as well. Would they have Rohit open then with Dhawan and perhaps have Raina at #6? Their batting seems a little bit questionable which is concerning considering the fact that they'll be playing a very strong and settled SA side at their home

India and Bangladesh should trade Vijays - we'll take Murali for Anamul.

vijay disappointed in this series but did well in his last test series so we could see him remain the 2nd opener. rahane has definitely been a big disappointment, don't see him getting many more chances at this point. rohit opening in tests would be a big call imo, he does it in ODIs and he's ok but nothing special and opening isn't where he's made all his FC runs is it?

see india have a few good opening prospects, they should have given a couple more some chances to some other opening prospects in this series but they didn't, they already know what vijay and dhawan offer so they could have given either more chances to mukund or gone for guys like jiwanjot singh. chand, PA reddy.

mukund i think hasn't been in great form over the last year or so but i think he was captain in the last A team series and did alright so strange that he was omitted but let's say due to the fierce competition and being in poor form he was left out. reddy has never really been on their radar so would never expect to see his name there but jiwanjot singh has been tremendous and i'm pretty sure he's on their radar so why wasn't he sent over there?

i think what's happened is the selectors had already decided that dhawan and vijay were going to be the openers in the SA series later in the year, they wanted to give them some experience in the conditions, dhawan thrived but vijay didn't so now there is a question mark on vijay and no back up that's been prepared which probably means if they don't feel confident in vijay then they could bring back sehwag or gambhir.

i guess they also expected rahane to perform and confirm his spot as back up opener but given that they had both dhawan and vijay there he didn't get much of a chance, he only played 2 matches and batted at #6 and didn't get to bat in the other one. also his one chance in zimbabwe where he got a 50 he batted at #3. so he's being given inconsistent chances and within those chances he's constantly being shuffled around the order. i think they need to decide where they want rahane to bat and give him chances in that spot. he's being shuffled around the order because they can't find someone they like for the #6 spot but rahane is a top order batsman so they should leave him out of that spot. what they should have done is when vijay failed, they should have given rahane the opportunity as opener.

hopefully they put rahane in next, if he makes a good score then he saves himself form being put pushed down to the bottom of the queue. j.singh seems to be a very good prospect, rising up the ranks quickly. we get to see him soon playing for india A against NZ A, that india A squad also has chand, juneja, zol, mandeep singh, samson, menaria. the unofficial tests for that series begins in a couple of days. very excited to see how those guys perform although it is in india and against NZ A so not going to be a great indication but still will be a very interesting series.

as far as their #6, keep raina out of tests, give sharma the #6 spot, he deserves it, got a ton in this india A tour, averages 60 in FC cricket. btw just noticed that a few matches ago rohit had a string of 60 scores, was out or not out in the 60s in 4 straight matches.

do you think sachin would move to #3? would have thought kohli would more likely go to #3 as sachin prefers to bat at #4. also dhoni at #5 is a bit high for him, swap him around with jadeja.

the order for those teams to me, doesn't mean they won't do it, but to me doesn't make sense because so many players are batting out of position. pujara is currently making the #3 spot his own and he's done well on his comeback so imo best not to move him, sachin definitely prefers batting at #4 and he is in decline so best not to move him either. rohit doesn't open in the longer format does he? so if he doesn't then he's on test debut batting in a spot he never bats which is quite an ask.

Hold up, sachin has announced his retirement? Or you think he will be dropped after that?

Lol at India A. They were 18-5 and then Rahane and Saha were going good. What happens after? 7 runs while they lose 5 wickets in the process. Overall it was a good tour for them though. Won the tri series and then split the unofficial Test series. Looking forward to the series in December

ronchi just got a ton at more than run a ball, they really should give him a few chances in the test side whether he play as keeper or a pure batsman.
