Default Crisis on the Field: New FP Article

Crisis on the Field
Jeeshan Mirza

2014 seems to have brought Bangladesh to crisis of confidence. After a very successful 2013, we have yet to have won a single match in any format. The author tells us exactly where the crisis has been brewing - on the field with our bowlers and fielders.

A great article by jeeshan bhai, I whole heartedly agree with everything now if only the people(BCB) that can implement such changes actually got this stuff in their brain!

Wonderfully written, Jeeshan

Agree with everything, specially ^^^
Though, team selection and conservative captaincy is a major problem too IMHO.

Bingo was his name-oh!
To this I would where is the strategy to maximize bowlers who are effective in our conditions
1) Conventional swing in early overs (negate lack of grass on pitch)
2) Speed through the air (negate lack of pace and bounce off wicket)
3) Reverse in the later overs (taking advantage of abrasive conditions)

Default Article

Jeesh,

You have obviously taken some time to put this article together and highlight a number of factors which are contributing to the lack of results this year to date.

I will take some more time to review your article and come back with a more detailed response, which however I will need to be very careful with, so as not to be in breach of contract etc.

One point to make though, quickly, you refer to Ranadeb Bose in your article. Ranadeb is no longer employed by BCB, his contract was not renewed last October (2013) and he spent just on 12 months with us working primarily with the U19 squad. While he was an inexperienced coach when he arrived, he became a very good coach and it was a big loss for us to lose him. His 15 years of first class playing experience, as well as a few games and tours for India, along with his desire to learn and improve as a coach, made him one of our most valuable coaching assets. he did a wonderful job with the U19 boys and it was a big loss when he moved on. He is now assistant coach of Bengal, in the Indian 1st class set up.

Something else you may wish to have a look at in relation to developing fast bowlers (of which we have quite a good, deep group, but cant get access to them, which is another story) is how many get to play first class or list A cricket and how many overs they bowl. There was at least one game this year, in first class cricket where did not even pick one fast bowler in their side. How can we expect our quicks to improve if they cant get a game, because teams want to play 4 and 5 spinners.

More to come anyway, but thanks for your article and your passion for the game.

Regards
Richard

Did BCB even try to keep him? I know you won't answer and I know why!

Can BCB force the club to play at least 2 pacers in every match they play?

Thanks coach to take your time and visit us at BC

Much appreciated.

Can you comment about our realistic chances in this T20WC? Just wanted to know where we are now that can be compared to a fan's expectation and what the reality is!!

It's always great to see response from coaches!

Question: Knowing how one needs to make rapid decisions and think on their feet on a 20-over tournament, what can you tell us about the effectiveness of Mushfiqur's captaincy, since he tends to be more on the defensive side of things?

I hope you all are aware that you are mostly asking questions Coach McInnes would be unable to answer in his role.

Thanks all for your generous feedback. Greatly appreciated.

@Observer. Great to see you here coach. Thanks for taking the time to go through the writeup and give your feedback. Look fwd to hearing more.

Also thanks for letting us know about Ranadeb Bose, whose stint didnt get much following with the press. But hopefully BCB consider hiring someone who can continue working on the pace bowling pipeline. At the same time i hope they dont think a good coach is like a silver bullet. There is a lot of work to be done, needs a lot of effort from individuals from all levels.
