Default CI-Bangladesh players to consult psychologist

Bangladesh players to consult psychologist-

Bangladesh's senior players will have three sessions with a psychological skill development coach later this month. The BCB is also looking to hire short-term specialist coaches for all age groups to rectify specific problems in batting and spin bowling.
Bangladesh's recent poor form had prompted this move. They had won only two T20s and drawn a Test match against Sri Lanka since January, during one of their busiest and most high-profile seasons. Defeats to Afghanistan in the Asia Cup and Hong Kong in the World T20 were the low points.
BCB chief Nazmul Hassan has said that apart from speaking to prospective coaches, he has agreed to hire Ali Khan, a psychological skill development coach. He will have sessions with the Bangladesh players on April 24, 27 and 28.
"We are looking for spin and batting coaches," Hassan said. "Yesterday I gave the approval for a psychologist. Our team did well but just after losing to Afghanistan, their morale broke down. The same thing happened after losing to Hong Kong. Previously, we used to fight even after losing.
"We want to keep the head coach and the rest of the coaching staff, but at the same time we want to hire top ex-players to do some specialist camps for all ages, kids and seniors. These are in addition to the regular coaching system."
Hassan added that Saqlain Mushtaq's plan to be with the Bangladesh team only during tours was not feasible for the BCB. Saqlain, the former Pakistan offspinner, was hired for 100 days last year but he has since joined West Indies as their assistant coach, and his last stint as Bangladesh's spin consultant was during the Zimbabwe tour last year.
"It is hard to get a good coach. Saqlain Mushtaq was available but he said he wants to coach the team when they are on tour. What will he coach during a tour? He won't come to Bangladesh, which is a big problem," he said.

Best news I have heard in God knows how many years - they have needed this - and it has all been avoided. Stigma? don't know what or why it took so long.

I guarantee y'all that the psychologist's performance and professionalism after meeting with the BD players will decrease markedly.

If the clueless Papon wants to keep Jurgensen and his staff then why is he bring in new specialist coaches for batting and Spin bowling (what about a bowling coach in general as well?)? If you are going to hire new coaches then blow the whole thing up and let Jurgensen go. These guys will probably start a fight in the dressing room 24/7/365, if the whole team keeps on tanking and they can't get along with each other.

The psychotherapy should start with Papon first. I would like to know what goes on in his mind when he makes these kinds of boneheaded decisions, such keeping a clueless head coach around after he failed miserably for the last 4 months. Seems like he's really delusional. Then the selectors, the directors, and THEN the team and the coaches. So, Mr. Ali Khan, please get to it!

We had a sports psychologist for three months leading up to the CWC in 2011 when I was there. Top bloke. But the players didn't take him seriously in my opinion and complained (again). He was let go afterwards.

It isn't a psychologist thats needed but an overhaul of attitudes and the excuse culture - of everyone involved

The psychologist might require therapy once he's done with our boys.

After paying Saqlain a big pay check for 100 days of coaching West Indian spinners, the BCB has realized it won't work. Now they are waiting to sign off another pay check for Wasim for 100 days to coach Afghanistan's seamers. After next year's world cup Papon will say:

1) India has agreed to host us for a full 5 Test series in 2017. It is confirmed. We will be hosting Hong Kong in 2016 and touring India the year after that.

2) England and Australia have agreed in principle to cancel the Ashes and play us home and away in 3 Test series instead. They gave us the dates and we just have to finalize them.

3) We had Wasim bhai on contract for 100 days but he was only willing to coach us during Ramadan in odd numbered years. He was also unwilling to come to Bangladesh or stay in Pakistan. This will not work so we will let him go.

4) We are looking for some part time cooking coaches to teach the wives and girlfriends of senior, age group, and players of levels to cook better maach and bhat.

5) We were the only country that voted for Zimbabwe to retain their Test status but unfortunately Zimbabwe did not support us.

^Good one! Under Papon's glorious leadership and his board of director's world class vision, we might find ourselves ranked below 16 after 5 years when even Nepal would refuse to host us. Hong Kong already beat us in our own backyard and all the team which played in this World Cup
are all either beat us or capable of beating us within a year. That's 15 teams. This is no joke as we are fast running out of quality players at age group level. We had a good system in place 10 years ago and that's how we got the current group of national players. But 5-10 years later we would be in serous trouble. Remember soccer, where we were beating Maldives, Nepal easily. Look what happened now. Same thing has already started to happen in cricket. We are lucky we have a few good cricketer now. But our downfall is real and we are truly and certainly going down fast under the current leadership. If we lose test status somehow after 5 years, that's the end of cricket, just like soccer, and we might never get it back.

What BD Team really needs is a world class professional coach and coaching staff.
The team needs specialized batting, bowling and fielding coach. The team needs a good computer analyst, trainer, and a good team manager. And the team needs impartial, and smart selectors.

BD needs good quality coaching staff for all it's age group teams. We need people we can coach our players, lead and guide our players.
Sooner BCB realize this simple truth is better for our cricket.

We might have to wait for a miracle as current BCB leaders just don't get it. They are not capable to begin with.

^If that is true then we need the sports minister to intervene and find out who actually needs a psychologist.

Sorry to sound pessimistic, but this isnt the first time we are getting psychologist. And like every other time, this is likely to be an utter waste of resources.

Boosting the confidence, managing the morale is the job of a head coach. If he cant do it, he is in the wrong job.

Its absolute common knowledge. People go for all these self help programs etc, get a short term confidence boost and after a few days back to normal. And we musnt forget most of our players dont have the intelligence or pedigree of a sophisticated Sangakara or Dhoni who will actually learn and improve.
