Default Unbelievable, bizzare!

3-yr-old child accused of attempted murder surrenders to court
Court Correspondent

Believe it or not! A 3-year-old child, accused in an attempted murder case, surrendered before court in his father's lap yesterday and prayed for bail.

Baby boy Iman Ali looked horrified at the court environment with lots of policemen, lawyers, journalists and litigants around. He cried embracing his father and gave a blank look being unable to comprehend all that was going on in the court.

The sensational appearance drew hundreds of onlookers to the court premises, who castigated the complainant of the case for what they said was framing the boy.

Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Towfiqul Alam however granted bail to Iman upon a bond of Tk 5,000 with two guarantors -- the father and one of his lawyers. The prosecution did not oppose the bail petition.

Iman appeared before the Court of Chief Metropolitan Magistrate, Dhaka in his father Anwar Ali's lap along with the lawyers at 1:30pm. The lawyers while moving the bail petition told the court that the complainant implicated Iman in the case despite knowing his age.

The complainant's son-in-law, Ali Hossain, earlier also filed nine other criminal cases accusing other family members in a bid to grab three katha land of Iman's father at Sayedabad in the city.

In the next 24 hours, the leading Bangladeshi political parties, the AL and BNP, have announced programs to lay seige on each other's symbolic party headquarters. For the seige, they have assembled trebuches and other seige weapons from the popular video game, Age of Empires.

Default More Than She Banked On

WESTON, Fla. - A woman got a lot more than she asked for at
a McDonald's drive-thru. Janice Meissner ordered a bagel and
a Diet Coke for breakfast, but her bag of food seemed unusu- ally heavy. She soon discovered the bag was loaded with hun- dreds, maybe thousands, of dollars in a sealed plastic bag.
The money turned out to be the restaurant's bank deposit.
Officials for McDonald's said the deposit was put in a food
bag to make it less obvious before it was taken to the bank.
It was accidentally left too close to the drive-thru window
and the employee didn't check twice before sending it out
the window. Meissner did a double take after opening the bag
before backing up her minivan to the window to return the
money. McDonald's officials said they will send Meissner a
thank-you letter and $50 in gift certificates.

Default Say What?

OTTAWA - A student at Carleton University was having a spit-
ting contest with friends Saturday night when he plunged 11
floors off a downtown high-rise to his death. It appeared
that Ameer "AJ" Jinah took a running start in an attempt to
spit further than his two friends when he accidentally
launched himself over the balcony railing. The leaping
spitter was described by security guard Jason Armstrong as
"one of the classiest guys. He had a maturity beyond his
age." Actions speak louder than words in this case...

I found little more detalis:

SYDNEY - A 69-year-old Australian woman is suing a Sydney
hospital because surgeons left a pair of scissors in her
abdomen for 18 months. Pat Skinner suffered months of pain
after doctors at St. George Hospital removed part of her
colon in May 2001, she told Sky News Tuesday. Only after she
insisted, an X-ray was finally performed and the scissors
were caught on film, she said. "I was just devastated, I
could not believe what I was seeing. It was like a nightmare
seeing those scissors up on the screen," Skinner said. Call-
ing the mishap "human error" a hospital spokesman said the
scissors were removed in October 2002. Skinner said she was
going public with her experience because she had decided to
pursue legal action against the hospital.

This film might not be related to the story at it shows chest not the abdomen.

The news is from AFP, so there is no reason for it to be fake. Probably they just meant chest, but mistakenly said abdomen.

I heard it on the news and it was definitely left in the abdomen.

I'm no radiologist, but doesn't it seem that the xray wasn't taken from a fully frontal position? Seems like she was lying down or leaning back..(!)

I agree with you nasif ! I think it was an honest mistake when they wrote the story! The bottom line is that scissors was in the body. It doesn't matter whether it was in the abdomen or in the chest.

Default here goes another one. This is no joke! it took place last year.

LISBON - There are easier ways to do it, but this method is
guaranteed to get you in the newspapers. A man, apparently
wanting to commit suicide, jumped into the lion pit at Lisbon
zoo where he was promptly attacked and killed. Zoo officials
said the 61-year-old man climbed a five-yard-high wall and
leaped into the pit, home to 10 lions. He ignored warnings
from gardeners to remain still and instead began bothering
the lions. A 10-year-old female, then attacked and killed the
man. "She broke his neck...and he was dead instantly," a zoo
administrator told Reuters. A police spokesman said the man
had been distraught about the recent death of his son.

Nevertheless; it was a good choice by him!

Default wow! that\'s painful!

LOS ANGELES - A construction worker had six nails driven into his head in an accident with a high-powered nail gun, but doctors said Wednesday they expect him to make a full recovery.

Slideshow: X-Rays Reveal Six Nails in Man's Head

Isidro Mejia made his first public appearance Wednesday since the April 19 accident that left him with 3 1/2-inch nails embedded in his face, neck and skull. He told reporters in Spanish from his wheelchair that he does not remember much about the accident, but is grateful to be alive.

"He says that he's very happy to be alive," said Dr. Rafael Quinonez, a neurosurgeon who removed the nails at Providence Holy Cross Medical Center. "And he told me this morning that he thought he was going to die. He was happy when he opened his eyes, and he saw that he's still with us."

Mejia, 39, was atop an unfinished home when he fell from the roof onto a co-worker who was using the nail gun, Los Angeles County sheriff's Deputy Mark Newlands said.

The two men tried to grab each to keep from falling, but both tumbled to the ground. At some point, the nail gun discharged and drove the nails into Mejia's head.

"They're extremely powerful," Newlands said. "They've got to drive through three-quarter-inch plywood."

Quinonez said Mejia told authorities he remembered a "shock" to the back of his neck and little else before passing out.

Three nails penetrated Mejia's brain, and one entered his spine below the base of his skull. Doctors said the nails barely missed his brain stem and spinal cord, preventing paralysis or death.

"We did not have too much hope that he would survive, but we did it and he survived," Quinonez said, calling the recovery "close to a miracle."

Mejia is walking with minimal assistance and speaks somewhat slowly because his brain's speech center was affected, but his progress has been "remarkable," Quinonez said. With rehabilitation therapy, he should fully recover, he said.

"He is basically normal," Quinonez said.

Five nails were removed the same day and the sixth, in Mejia's face, was removed April 23 after swelling went down, the hospital said.

Authorities cleared the co-worker of any wrongdoing. (AP)
