Default Australia vs Pakistan 2014

A lot of focus were put on Australia's ability to play spin especially Ajmal in the build up of the series. Australia has appointed Murali as a consultant to work with their spinners and batters. Unfortunately Ajmal is not playing in the series. Although, Australia have fared relatively well against other spinners in the first two ODIs, we can't know how would they encounter Ajmal's high quality spin if he played. And Pakistan's lacklustre batting makes the comparison somewhat harder as well.

Nonetheless, a very interesting comment from Steve Smith after he scored his maiden ODI hundred in the first ODI, "Today it was just about trying to get off strike and putting the bad ball away, and it worked well". http://in.reuters.com/article/2014/1...0HX07F20141008 Our batters would do well if they adopted similar batting strategy.

Given the batting woes they should have given sami aslam at least the dead rubber match, think they should have kept raza hasan in the side for that match as well as he's probably their main spin hope for the long term atm, a bit strange they rested misbah.

What a win for Australia. Bailey has been an excellent captain. The field setting and bowling rotation did the trick defending such a small total.

Definitely. Michael Clarke is way more attacking as a captain and the best player of spin in the team. Plus its the world cup at home approaching. He wouldn't want to miss this once in a lifetime opportunity.

Comment from cricinfo: "Spin is proving to be the difference and even the inexperienced spin bowlers of Pak are proving way more effective than their aussie counterparts...This difference may decide this match"

This is very true...i think he's a modern day great...despite all the turmoil Pak have been through, their test record in the last five years isn't as bad as one would think and they have Misbah and Younis to thank for that. Just read today's CI article on him and then did a quick statsguru check. He has one of the highest fourth innings averages ever, and his away averages are not much different from home averages--all hovering around 52.

It has been refreshing to see mighty Australia being humbled by Captain Tuk-Tuk. And Babar's dominance suggests that our bowling could do well against Australia in our home conditions.

Clarke and Warner are Australia's two main batsmen, when they don't score the team struggles, talent is there but the focus is not, spin continues to be a problem for us though, not just playing it but bowling it to. Clarke is coming to the end of his career, he might only be 33 but his back can't handle the rigours of international cricket anymore and it's affecting his batting form, can't get into a groove.

Babar has been good but it's been refreshing to see a young leggy given a chance and taking the bull by the horns, Pakistan need to stop picking the older generation of spinners and groom some long term prospects. Also get azhar ali opening and bring in umar akmal permanently into the test team as a middle order bat.

Australia's main strength is their fast bowling. Problem is that they're too dependent on it as their spinners are ineffective and their batting alone isn't good enough. This pitch has hasn't been ideal for Australia's fast bowlers which has really hurt them. They need to find more reliable batsmen. Can't just depend on Clarke and Warner.

Pakistan on the other hand has been fantastic. Younis has to be credited and so do all their batsmen. Their pacers and spinners have both clicked and this is why they have been so dominant so this series

Misbah toying with the Aussie attack and Younus finally dismissed only for a double digit score

Seems like Aussies play and bowl spin worse than Bangladesh play and bowl fast bowling.

I disagree. Let us face Johno-Starc-Siddle or Steyn-Philly-morkel on bouncy tracks. On such occassions unless Tamim does a repeat of what he did 4 years ago then we are likely to score more of those 58s and 78s.

Having said that, if we play on turners you never know we might actually beat Australia once in a while. No Ajmal, yet they are struggling.

Australia just raised the bar high even for Bangladesh .

And Pakistan will often do the most unthinkable thing, with so many new comers they are winning, that also in tests after losing all ODIs , they would have probably lost if all were experienced, lol,

Oh how the Aussies have fallen, looking at that batting line-up bar Clarke is depressing to see. Maxwell at #3, a spot held by so many great players in Australia over their history
