Default What's this FETISH with 8 batsmen?

I think team management along with fans have become blind. In all our 3 games so far, we have not even used the 8th batsman. Yes, Anamul was injured, but did we even need him or Nasir. An 8th batsman can come in but he might be largely ineffective because he will have bowlers to bat with at other end, And that rarely works out or helps to build partnerships. Instead, a 5th specialist bowler might be equally useful with the bat instead of an 8th batsman in the slog overs. And gives you more confidence with bowling. It'll be a big blunder according to me, if we again get in Mominul and disrupt the total team balance. Just replace Anamul with one of the spinners. As simple as it gets.

keep same team, just add taijul to destroy england and instead of rubel take shafiul--he can be handy batsman too.

I agree too.

The idea of 8 batsmen comes from the famous collapse of BD team. That's a negative mindset.

Things are so obvious at this point that I'm pretty sure we'll have these two changes for the next game: Taijul in, Bijoy out and Safiul in Rubel out.

However, Mashrafe isn't looking fit, so we might just get to see Rubel still in the team. Let's not count him out. So it'll be Shafiul, Rubel, and Taskin.

They way I see, it is very simple. You must have your 5 bowlers and 6 batters which includes one or two all-rounders.

Picking 8 batsmen is a major sign of negative mind-set and, of course, severely compromises the bowling attack. An old adage in cricket: if seven batsmen cannot do the job, eight batsmen won't. To go with only 4 frontline bowlers against a strong side is nothing but a suicide. They will simply bat you out of the game -more often than not. With a 5 frontline bowlers you might not win a game all the time but you increase the chance of winning by many folds or remain very competitive.

It really baffles me how this cannot be understood by many professional think-tanks. If you are simply playing for a shommanjonok porajoy then, by all means, go with all eleven batsmen where a few could turn their arms over. But if you DARE to win, you must go with the bowlers. I would rather play with right sets of players and with NO FEAR and "lose" a game or two. One should not be too afraid to win nor too afraid to lose. The process has to be correct. The mindset has to be correct. I don't see any other alternative.

Hopefully such sense has been knocked into our team management's heads.

This WC has been completely a batter's paradise, bowlers are getting massacred left, right and centre. I don't think there would be much difference if we had played an extra bowler in either the SL or Scot game.

That's some T_Eye tactic. But fact is extra batsman =! more runs. Mash had to dig underground to find a 6th bowler yesterday. Heck we don't even have a 5th bowler! Who's our fifth bowler?? Riyad? Sabbir? Mya? But at least it was Nasir not Momin in the XI. He was able to bowl a few. And it's his position to bat.

Was never in favor of 8 batsmen. But I can tell that Haturi da plans to win games off batting rather than bowling. if thats the case than they simply cant go with 3 seamers and no front line spinners. Bring in Arafat or Taijul and bench a seamer and there is a good chance that the spinner will end up saving 20-30 runs. The spinner wont be picking a lot of wickets in these surfaces but compared to the seamers, they will go for less and we will have a lower total to chase or easier to defend a higher total.

But to me, the 8th batsman is just a "shantona" batsman on a failing match and regardles of who plays at no.8 (Nasir or Shabbir) none of them are Faulkners and cant win a losing match

From PA দারুণ জয়েও প্রশ্নের কাঁটা

Don't think Mash is the problem here, but Hathuri is the one thinking too defensively. But then again, selectors denied him his preferred specialist spinner (Jubair).

Haturi almost cost us the game. Its the spinners who basically won it for us.
I am concerned the head coach is doing more harm than good for this team.

Hathuri has maintained a very positive upwards curve for us. I wouldn't get worked up over this.

Why is Haturi getting criticized? Come on please be realistic. This guy is an excellent coach. He is the answer to Bangladesh's woes.

You have been blaming the coach for everything since he has taken the helm, give it a rest.

After Shabbir's performance, i hope think tank have more confidence to include a spinner in place of a batsman.

Actually Hathuri believes in having 7 batsmen, not 8. I learned that from his interview in PA some time ago. But the batting collapse in the recent warm up games might have scared the team management a bit. Hopefully the last game gave them some much needed confidence.

7 is fine, replace anamul with a spinner, (tajiul?)

Let's not get ahead of ourselves. Our spinners are no Tahir or Vettori that will get wickets in any surface. Look at Shakib. He is arguably our best but he isn't getting that much out of the surfaces either. So an extra batsman who can slow up the RR with his part-time bowling is a lot better than a spinner who can slow the RR but can't bat.

No worries. I think team management will pick a spinner for the next match against Eng.

8 batsmen not only weakens our bowling, which has been poor so far, it also weakens our batting. In last game, Riyad at 3 and Mushfiq and Shakib at 4 and 5 was perfect. Riyad looked good at 3, and Mushfiq and Shakib naturally fitted better at 4 and 5 rather than 5 and 6, and we used our best batsmen higher up the order with more balls to face and less pressure. In other games, having an extra batsman in top order was useless and just created additional pressure after they got out.

One difference though, Vettori and Tahir would probably come in after the batsman have been softened up by world class fast bowling, fall of a wicket or two. Unfortunately Shakib doesnt enjoy such luxury.

Even Jadeja and Ashwin bowl after some initial damage is done. Life is a lot easier.

I think the correct spelling is "foetus" or in Bangla "Fitash" as the song "fitash er kanna- Aurthohin"
