Default Opening partnership

I really feel the opening partnership is becoming a huge concern. The middle order can only bail you out so many times. Today is an exception i'll accept, boult and southee were top notch but Tamim has not kicked on in the ODI format since that 07 game against india.

Over the last 4 years:
Tamim Iqbal has averaged 29, with a SR 72, with 1 century.
Anamul Haque 35 with SR 70.
Imrul Kayes 19 at 60.

Now going onto opening parternships over the the same period
Tamim-Anamul averages 34 for an opening stand
Tamim-Imrul average 16.

Compare this with Musfiq-Shakib at 50, or Mushfig-Mahmud again at 50.

Someone with Tamim's talent and ability for to average less than Anamul at a similiar strike rate is not right. Anamul gets criticised alot but his numbers are equal to Tamim's.

After the WC, Tamim either goes back to domestic period over the next year or so and see if can at least get into the habit of scoring big ODI/limited over runs. If we can get a consistent top order, not only does that relieve pressure on the middle order but also scores of 300+ will be more likely.

At the moment our opening partnership consists of Soumya and Riyad.

Today's was fine. Actually great looking at the circumstances. The ball was moving so much. They couldn't do anything. We were lucky not go down even more or earlier. Stop this nitpicking. Go look at the English scorecard against NZ. They didn't even bat under these condition. Same with Australia, SL.

Mahmudllah could/should have easily been out for a single digit score in these last 2 matches.

It's been some really good bowling, only Soumaya has tackled the new ball with confidence. It's a different game now with 2 different balls being used so ... It's tough being opener.

I'd back Tamim to come out guns blazing vs India.

For the game against India drop either Tamim or KaEdge. Which -it doesn't matter. Soumya opens with one of "them". Nasir MUST play and Mashrafe comes in for Taijul. Part time spin from Nasir, Sabbir and Riyad is enough.

Nasir is more likely to score runs (at the lower order) than Tamim or kaEdge at the top. He can bowl handy offspin, break partnerships, take brilliant catches and save runs.

Nasir should get in just for his fielding and energy. Period. A breathe of fresh air. His hunger has gone up by sitting at the sidelines.

Yes currently this is the only concern in our batting order. If we could solve this problem, we could consistently score 300+ runs in this world cup. They are (opening pair) holding us back.

It isn't a good idea to criticize any of our player by us in Cricket World Cup. They need to concentrate. But your post has substance. Never thought of that. Nasir can open up with Tamim. Fixed!

1) Tamim (no back up in the WC squad)
2) SS
3) Riyad
4) Mushy
5) Shakib
6) Nasir
7) Shabbir

Best batting line up available for the India game.

No offence to Nasir, but I would promote Shabbir at #6 ahead of Nasir (for now). Besides SS, I love this kid. Slowly but surely he is becoming a "must have" player in the team.

No no no. Let us not destroy him. He is very good in spot 3.

I'd take a steady opening partnership of 40/0 after 10 over a quick 60/2. If we can preserve wickets that 20 run deficit can be made up in one or two overs in the latter stages of the innings.

Tamim should come out guns blazing not block defensively giving easy catch to slip
