Default Kieran Powell transitioning from cricketer to baseball player.

West Indies opening batsman Kieran Powell is trying out for number of MLB teams in the off season.

I was a bit in shock when I noticed this story in today's New York Times. I can see why he would want to go there...Windies cricket in decline and a chance to get a very lucrative contract.

Hope all goes well for him.

NB:
It shows that the story was on January 13th edition....I may have been wrong with the dates.

MLB pays more then even IPL I think, if powell makes it big we might see even more decline of West Indies cricket, those who cant make it to IPL will seek a chance in MLB.

I predict in 2100 there will be only three countries left playing cricket India Austalia and England. good luck playing with each other all the time and earning money

^^ it makes sense. The proximity to the United States makes sports men and women from the Caribbean strive to play in American sports.

I can recall that baseball being introduced in Guyana a couple of years ago. It's the closest thing to cricket...and seeing that West indies' history is embedded with cricket glory..one can conclude that cricket had its last gasp of breath in the region.

He didn't impress the scouts

He would have had a better chance of being signed if he didn't ask for a 1M dollar signing bonus

Whenever I would take some of my family to the cages, they would try to swing it with Cricket techniques. Low backlift, almost a half swing in order for theem to make contact.

An Average MLB Contract is 4 Million Dollars per year so about 35 Crore
