Default T20 format, fast bowler or spinner ?

What type of bowler is more likely to shine in this format.
For years I felt that unless you are a big turner or a mystery spinner or a smart spinner with a lot of variation T20 is not for you.
I feel it is always much easier to play big shots against spinners than fast bowlers but I was surprised that the T20 bowler ranking has 8 spinners in top 10.

In this format fast bowlers generally bowl during first 5-6 overs and last 5-6 overs (like ODIs) , whicht is why they are more expensive, hence the dominance of spinners in ranking ?

What do you think?

If you have real speed, you don't need assistance from the pitch. 90+ yorker is a 90+ yorker. Not all batsmen are Viv Richards. One don't have the luxury like him to face continuous fast bowling at the nets. So the real game would become slow to him. Viv didn't wear helmets at the nets. Why would he need to wear to face the putuputu bowlers of the world?

Phast bowler it is.

Two types of spinners usually do well in T20's.

A) Your skilful spinners with good variations, stock deliveries. In other words an Ashwin or Ajmal or Narine

B) The enforcer spinners. The clever, intelligent bowlers who ball with terrific accuracy, control, but most importantly mentally strong. They are brought in early to prevent onslaught or choke in the middle overs. Shakib, Hafeez, Ravindra Jadeja,

And then you get guys like Afridi who are neither very skillful nor enforcer type, but yet are so successful.

A quick peep into the all time T20 wicket takers would give a strong idea that T20 is more of a pace bowlers game.

also spinners bowl when the fielders are more spread so singles are more available , but the point I was trying to make is that if a batsman makes up his mind to attack a spinner the spinner looks clueless, unless the spinner is doing exceptionally good .
Tail enders are always more comfortable hitting spinners for boundaries also indicates it is easier,
same reason why spinners don't bowl death overs, if they do it backfires like recently the over by Nasir against Waller, or Ajmol vs Hussey.

In our case, pacers are the way to go. Our spinners are accurate but way too predictable due to lack of variations and it would take even a hack a few deliveries to figure out the ball won't turn so just make room and give it a good hit.

Just looked at the wicket taking chart in T20 internationals. Its 6 spinners and 4 seamers. So pretty close. Spinners dont have a significant edge to be called the better ones and the seamers arent ahead either. Being a spinner myself, I have the bias towards spinners in general but I dont think one particular type has the advantage over the other. Any mediocre bowler whether its pace or spin will get destroyed in this format. A thinking bowler with good control usually succeeds in this format.

Seamers have a weapon called yorkers which has no counter attack to it. But very few in this world can bowl it and even fewer can bowl it regularly. For spinners, they dont have such delivery thats fail proof but spinners are excellent in luring the batsmen into playing a risky shot which is how they get most of the wickets in this format.

The T20 stats might give you a better idea, not T20 Int, because in any case teams play very little of T20 internationals.

And even the best spinners, not all of them might even feature in their teams today, eg: Ajmal, Mendis, Murali, Swann, Botha
