Thumbs up Mashrafe Bin Mortaza; what a player, what a leader, what a legend! Yet, does he really deserve this?

I hardly opened many threads in my 8 years time in BC, but this time I just couldn't control myself.

I sometimes get totally astonished by the amount of criticism Mash receives here by some members, trust me no where else does he get this much of flak for bowling one bad ball or a single bad over and in a jiffy people forget what he has done for BD cricket all these years. I mean, what else does this guy have to show day in day out to prove his worth in the team?

Today it was a pure master-class move by him to promote himself up the order and boy didn't do it in some style? Hit two consecutive fours against 'supposedly' the best bowler in the world ATM and totally changed the course of the match. His running between the wicket and the way he was continuously motivating Riyad was something to behold. Yet, this is the kind of posts we get to see quite frequently here in BC nowadays!

Lol, we'll always have a some posts saying Mash should be dropped after one expensive over, nothing will change. He will always make up an expensive over with a wicket, or like today with the bat. First ball yorker from Amir, and he sent it into the boundary! What a player! He had the confidence and courage to come onto bat rather than sending Mithun, and I'm sure some people were questioning that move too.

When Mash retires, he should be in the team management straight away.

Agreed. There is no other leader for BD cricket team. His pace has been higher in today's game, not sure if that was due to excitement or he changed something. He was delivering 135+ today; compared to this 125+ normal deliveries.

Mash has lots of cricket left in him.

I don't even think he's that bad of a bowler. For his age and the amount of surgeries, he is doing completely fine and justifies his selection. Most important thing is he understands his role and his weak points and avoids them very well. If he can give us 2-3 more years like this, we will go so far!

He has more balls than half of the male population in Bangladesh.

There is a reason why he plays for Bangladesh team and I get nervous sitting from the TV without any association to the cricket team

He did tremendous. And I always preface any criticism of him by saying how I think he's one of the greatest Bangladeshis of all time. It's for all to check. Top 100 I reckon. But of course being the captain, he has to face the music more than others when the team loses the plot. And he does, and it's perfectly fine.

And there is an expiration date on him for sure. Only so much mileage on those knees.

Legend. Make him the prime minister in addition to being the captain of our cricket team.

The first ball he faced, he smashed. The second ball he faced smashed him.

Mash has lots of cricket left in him.
His pace is still good when he has a decent break, its during tournaments and back to back series's his pace starts to drop, this Asia cup he's been bowling 130-138, which is great, but don't expect it to continue in the world T20.

So many different posters have said Mash should be forced to retire, or he's just getting in on his name and not on his contribution to the team

No, some of us have said "if you were picking your 4 best pacers, purely from a bowling effectiveness, would you include Mash in that list". And we are allowed to hold the opinion, that respectfully, this is NOT ALWAYS the case. Now I've come around to the argument some have made that in this tournament he has been a very effective 4th seamer. But I still want to preserve his knees for ODIs and try out Riyadh in the T20s. You know who agrees with me? Mash himself - hence he has indicated that he will retire (from this format) at the end of the T20 World Cup.

At one point, I did believe that Mash should retire but stay with the team... Now I feel awful for ever suggesting that...
That guy is larger than life... I am not worthy...
He is and shall always be my hero..... What a guy, what a captain... the real BOSS... (I sound like a 10 year old but I dont care)...

Only one thing I can tell about Mashrafee, this guy loves Bangladesh and puts its interest before anything else.

Of course he deserves. If anyone should play as a passenger its Mash. His captaincy and spirit are far more potent than his bowling or batting ever was. If we had Mushy or Shakib captaining we would only be beating Zimbabwe.

Under his captaincy, we have 81% winning record in ODI's and 47% in T20

Let's not worry about what a fan says in the heat of a moment. Due to certain emotions a fan can say things but it does not mean you have to agree to it and, take it as if its the most cruel thing ever been said.
