Default Spare a thought for Ian aka নানাভাই

For as long as he's hovered around this forum, Ian was always insistent - Bangladesh would NOT win consistently until it became a pace oriented bowling attack, as opposed to a SLA-dependent one. These days we play 3 pacers regularly and on many occasions go with 4 pacers. Instead of opening the bowling, Shak often comes 5th change. Sure some if it was out of necessity because we are yet to find an adequate replacement for Abdur Razzak's limited over effectiveness. But, with Mash's push for pace, Streak's coaching, and Hathruri's strategizing, we now have Rubel, Taskin, Al-Amin, Rony and Musta to pick from in our limited over squad. Shafiul, Shahid, Rabbi and Raju are in the periphery.

So let's give Pont some credit for calling out what we needed to be a good limited over squad. Sure he's not around to see it and I'm not convinced he was the coach to pull it off, but he was right in diagnosing what the fix needed to be.

And here's PA's piece on it ...

Have to say Bangladesh Cricket has become a force during the past 5 years. Great to see them finally competing this well. Fans deserve it

Has been a massive well wisher for BD cricket. He always congratulates the team, and I think after the world cup win against England he even opened a thread saying how impressed he was. I remember asking him to take up honorary Bangladeshi citizenship lolz... Good guy Ian! What we really need him for is teaching some of our bowlers to bowl really quick like Rony, Saifuddin, Jayed and all.

Why are we so sarcastic about him? He is a well wisher and have a good profile under his belt. How many people of this stature comes to the forum? We should respect his eagerness and welcome him in a positive manner.

He recived a lot of immature stick in this forum.

I always liked him and feel the guy knows what he is talking about. His teams Dhaka gladiators and Quetta have been sucessful, so he must be doing something right as a coach.

I think its fair to say some of the good work started under Pont. Its the first time i saw Bangladeshi bowlers try out well controlled slower deliveries etc. There was some degree of planning.

Shane Jurgensen wasted a couple of years. Streak not only revived pace bowling, but has taken it to a different level. We need Streak for the long term.

He is a very good bowling coach. Under him our fast bowlers for the first time started to win matches for us. Mash won us matches before but he had help. Under pont its the fast bowlers who won us the matches(rubel vs NZ, shafiul vs Ire)

when Streak goes I would love to have pont back as the bowling coach given he doesn't speak to the media
